Speaking as someone who has a husband who has Dissociative Identity Disorder, this show is probably the most accurate portrayal of what it's like to both have D.I.D. and to have a loved one with it. My husband has 7 alters of various gender identities and sexualities and personal preferences. Sometimes they're all very social and present, sometimes some of them go dormant for months at a time. Luckily, they all love each other which makes things much easier. They've had a rough life, they've faced trauma that I can't ever be capable of fully comprehending, but I love all of them very much.

Oscar Issac delivered an incredible performance in this series. As a Brit, he really impressed me with Steven's accent. It wasn't always perfect, but it was way better than most attempts I've heard by US actors and there were times I completely forgot he wasn't British.

    • @camannwordsmith

And because Steven is actually [redacted], the idea that the accent would sometimes be a bit off makes total sense.

I really enjoyed this series. Shows with unreliable narrators can be difficult to pull off, but are so rewarding when done right (Mr. Robot being the prime example). Oh KL, no word of a lie, you have literally just made my day, my week. Just from a glimpse at the thumbnail. So glad you like this. Moon Knight has been my favourite comic book character since I was a kid back in the 80's. When I heard they were going to do a TV show I was worried; I didn't know how. Then I watched it. In my mind, it's the single greatest video content (yes, including the movies...) ever created by Marvel. So nuanced, so subtle, yet complex, and heartfelt. I knew what was going on all the time but I was still anxious about what they would show. Episodes of this have made me laugh with joy, and cry in despair. That's power. That's craft. Just like the original writers and artists. And Oscar Isaac truly should have been given an Emmy. That's not a trite reactive comment; the skill involved here in dealing with such a complex character is unparalleled. I know I'm going to enjoy watching your reaction. I hope you enjoy the rest of the series.

I was always a fan of the more off beat "superheroes" of Marvel Comics like Moon Knight, through all his incarnations from that guy who hunts werewolves, to the Batman style vigilante, even when he was a very odd choice as an Avengers team member (Wolverine was a once full time member too, so not all that odd), and the split personality, leaning heavily into the metaphysical aspects stuff, he's such a fascinating character. This MCU version is a bit of all of those, but mostly the split personality, paranormal aspect which I'm here for. Oscar Isaac's performance really carries it, though, for me. The next few episodes, you might want to get a tissue, if you thought Wandavision was emotionally scarring, hoo boy

KL you are legitimately my favorite reactor, not only just because of your reactions, which I know, would seem semi-counterintuitive but let me cook 😅: the way in which you react invites a positive response. You don't go into your reactions with a hard-lined prejudice beforehand. You're honest about what you know and what you don't know before the reaction begins. You think it through with us, as you go along. It's incredibly engaging and super sweet because I think you GET the purpose of what you're doing... Which is ironically what a lot of reactors have forgotten. Thank you!

I think this is a comic you would love, several seasons, the old, first starts off as a kind of Batman character. Each new volume though they retconned and the character got more complex until you end up roughly with this series. Personally watching this got me to learn much more about DID & from there watching lots of reactors with DID. That alone helped me understand more, but also the difficult job Marvel undertook with this show. To be respectful of the character, the lore, of the condition. Love this show.

One aspect that I loved about this series is the trailer for it. It basically all came from the first episode. It was enough to hook you and didn't spoil anything for later episodes. Most other Marvel show trailers had some scene from later episodes which people analyzed to death, or was just a huge spoiler.

  • @StarkRG
    @StarkRG 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Oscar Isaac is amazing, in everything, of course, but especially that scene in the pyramid. While everyone else is talking more or less normally, he shows us that Marc isn't used to the feeling of Khonshu speaking through him and it's more like he's forcing his voice through him. His switch from Marc to Steven near the end there was fantastic, too.
The whole "turning back the night sky" part is a bit silly since there are literally phone and tablet apps that will let you do that exact thing. They do get less accurate the further from now you look, but we're talking over millions of years for any significant drifting, not tens of thousands. I give them a break, though because Marc's a merc, Steven's a gift shoppist with a special interest in Egyptian mythology, Layla's an archaeologist/treasure hunter/Egyptian Indiana Jones, and Khonshu is ancient. The first three aren't likely to know much about modern astronomy or that such tools are available and Khonshu's never had a phone, he probably doesn't even know what an app is.

IIRC, Moon Knight first showed up in the comic "Werewolf By Night" - which has since had a one-shot, classic horror cinema-style adaptation, I highly recommend! A lot of these more offbeat, slightly darker stories started off in Marvel's bigger horror titles before getting their own spin-offs - another example would be Blade who popped up in "Tomb of Dracula". Then there's a fun little crossover in the movie Blade: Trinity, where the character 'Jack Russell' (aka the titular Werewolf By Night, though not a werewolf in the movie) is played by Ryan Reynolds, in a role that definitely presaged him getting to play Deadpool

My favorite Marvel show. There's so much to talk about but I'll restrict myself to:
    1. My usual comment that so much drama could have been avoided if Marc or Khonshu had just asked the gods to have Harrow roll up his sleeve...and
    2. F. Murrey Abraham as Khonshu was casting genius. I think the way the writers ( in both the show and the comics) handled him as a being whose personality and ethics were established in the eye-for-an-eye bronze age but who has been influenced to at least a small degree by the modern age is really interesting. It's arguable how fair it really is to judge him by modern standards. He's a little like that elderly relative you have that's kinda racist but does it through entrenched ignorance rather than hate.

Hey Kaielle. I’ll reserve my real opinion on this series after you put, the other three episodes out.
That being said I think the 3 lead actors (Ethan Hawke, May Calamawy & Oscar Isaac), did a very good job in this series.
This series is the most disconnected series from the MCU to this point. A lot of people find that enjoyable or refreshing. I find it confusing. You can watch nearly any other movie or tv series if you want something that “stands” on its own. However, the entire point of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that this is the ONLY franchise where characters and stories from different places (seemingly unconnected) are all apart of the SAME cinematic universe snd may some day all criss cross paths. That is such a cool thing… why are people against that?

The show does a phenomenal job of portraying mental illness, but the aspect I like in particular is how the stigma of it affects a person.
All Marc/Steven want is to get on with their lives or their mission. Obviously Steven loses his job and lose out on his date, Marc lost his marriage, and who knows what else. But Harrow uses that stigma against him in the court of the Gods as a way to discredit Khonshu. They now look at Khonshu abusing this poor man who needs help (as they should) but they don't consider anything else about the claims. And you can read it on Marc/Steven's faces how ashamed they are of this. During that same court, Marc look truly ashamed that they were all pitying him and that he couldn't get them to listen because of this issue. Then again when they're at the end and Layla's telling Marc to give into Steven, you can see Marc just not wanting to talk about or deal with this right now, hence in his anger ripping off the mirror without a word to Layla. Nevermind Khonshu constantly saying things about Steven and Marc having to act the whole time like he's holding things together, but just barely
When you're dealing with mental illness, there are times where you're just like "For crying out loud, can I not deal with this right now?!!!" I've not yet seen a show that more perfectly captured that

Very few films have even bothered to portray DID characters in a sympathetic light. More times than not, they are villains, nutjobs. It's as if doing research on the subject was too much to be bothered with. I applaud this show for what it's done.

Thanks! Normally I don't LOL. I did mention in the intro that I happened to see the blurb about the character having DID before I pressed play on Ep 1. But I've also seen other stories of DID portrayed, so kinda knew what to look for!

Depending on how many varriants you personally have you have to constantly be at war with cause varients are just other people with vast different points of view, and the the Hollywood trope of comforting out body's, Holly wood does exaggerate this a lot for me it's muscle contortions when my strength an adrenalin is off the scale, this variant i have full control over but the variant that has in charge which ever one is the real person, i know who the real me is the variants only i know but some are extremely noticeable, why must we be 1 person at a time

    "I want to trust Arthur..."
Why would you trust the guy advocating preemptive child murder? Like Steven said, seems like a red flag...
