The Habanero by Stamps surfboards is a one board quiver!
I ordered two custom boards from Tim in my Small Wave Performance board dimensions for 1-4’ surf. Both boards have the same dimensions but one is PU and the other is EPS with a unique carbon layup.
My first session the waves were 3-5’ and the EPS Habanero did NOT disappoint. Good paddler, solid off the bottom, great down the line speed, smooth rail to rail transitions, and great projection through maneuvers.
As the waves dropped to 1-3’ both boards continued to perform well as a Thruster and Quad. I expected the EPS to go well in the smaller surf but I had doubts concerning the PU performing well due to it being a little heavier. To my surprise the PU was spicy as a Quad offering great projection and pop from turn to turn with a good set of Speed Generating fins.
The Habanero is a “Favorite” of mine for 2019 and I highly recommend it as a 1 board quiver in 1-6’ surf. This model best suits intermediate to pro level surfers looking for high performance surfing in a variety of wave conditions and sizes.
    Board DIMS PU & EPS:
    5’6” x 19 x 2.31 Liters 25.6
    My Height: 5’9”
My weight: 160 lbs or 72.57 kg
    EPS Board Weight: 4.90 lbs
    PU Board Weight: 5.60 lbs
    Recommended Fins:
Futures (Thruster) Legacy R6 - R8 Honeycomb or Beta 2.0 Vapor Core Prototype
Futures (Quad) Medium Stretch Speed Generating Fins or HS1 Generation

Well done Noel, I've been thinking the on location interviews with shapers adds a really nice element and some great input from the creators. And it's always great to find a true one board quiver that can match a lot of conditions. Cool to learn about the impact of fins on that too.

This board looks amazing under your feet. I don't think I've seen you surf that effortlessly to date. Your front side bottom turns on the larger waves were what I try to achieve; not a ton of effort but amazing drive and stability for vertical snaps. Great surfing. I'm definitely going to check out that board.

You seemed to surf it similar to the way that you surf the Rocket Wide. Also, cool the way you reviewed and interviewed a local shaper who looks like a real nice guy. Get Stamps to NZ!

Man, you are a great surfer. I’m struggling to generate speed on the back hand. When you do it, you makes it look so easy lol. That board looks great. I own a couple grovelers , but they’re all short fat and slow. Wouldn’t mind giving that board a try. Love the vids man.

Hey Noel. Great review. Love the show! For the San Clemente area which board would you choose for a daily driver/one board quiver? Habanero, Phantom, Inferno 72, NB2, or another favorite?

Hey Noel, great show your are on top of doing these reviews cheers.
I got a quick question for you about this board. I grew up doing nssa, vqs and hs surf team always riding a thruster but only ever had two that were magic and worked for me ( a 5'11 xtr doc & a 6'1 Dan Taylor rounded pin w/glass ons) but mostly work against the thruster in everyday conditions.
But once I tried a quad things like combos/bottom turns/ maintaining flow came much easier in average surf than with the thruster.
That quad board specifically was a 5'8, 181/2, 21/4 stretch battail ratboy model made with Marko eps so probably being shaped around 2010.
All of this is to say I am chasing that finesse and effortless flow that comes from a board that will bridge groveler and performance shortboard, a board that will have drive to get thru flat spots without requiring a 24/7 Huntington-hop to keep moving.
I know I am asking if I can have my cake and eai it too but do you think this board (I've been talking to the legendary stamps and am going to get a board from him) will fulfill that need for a quad guy like myself. Albeit I would probably opt for 5'7 19.5 2 3/8.
Thank you in advance, sorry for the life story
    Aloha
    -zach

Civil Society & Private Interest Tim can build that sled for you... this Habanero is epic and loved it as a Quad. It has that release, flow, and speed that you speak of.

@@surfnshowreviews7777 Sick it looked like that the way you were surfing it. thank you for the insight I think that solidified my choice.
Seems like a modest portion of the surf industry is moving towards more alternative shape like the board fish beard ci just put out as well as asymms, interesting.
Keep up the show man it rocks!

Thanks for the nice review. How would you compare this board to the Rocket Wide?

    • @surfnshowreviews7777
      @surfnshowreviews7777  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Roger Pye RW might carry a little more down the line speed but this Habanero offers more performance surfing and it can handle bigger surf due to it having more rocker.

Hey Noel, I live in the central coast CA I’m an intermediate surfer and progressing on my turns everyday. I have a custom Joey Nicholes 5’8 but would like something new that’s an all around short board that I can have fun on smaller mushier waves but can hold on bigger steeper head+ days. Just an all around board. I’m 5’11 165 pounds. Could you recommend a couple boards for me? I watch all of your videos and figured I’d ask you before anyone else. Thanks man!
