  • A quick review on the Alpinestars Halo jacket and the reasons I had to return it. I bought the Halo jacket following Fortnines review, unfortunately the jacket didn't quite live up to the hype, at least for me :) This is only my personal opinion, I'm sure many will be over the moon with this jacket! ;)

    Thanks for this review. I absolutely appreciate F9 product reviews, but just as much, I appreciate alternative reviews and opinions. Many thumbs up.

    I've been using this jacket for about 8 months now, well past the return window. It's pretty much exactly as you say, except I've also been running into the unfortunate issue where the neck velcro for the front panel keeps grabbing my helmet's pads. The front zipper is my biggest pain point as well.
    I originally clicked this video because I was expecting someone to go on some tyrannical rant about how Ryan got it wrong and this is the worst jacket ever, but each point you made in both good and bad is 100% accurate and delivered with no bias. You've gained a subscriber, and I do feel that Ryan missed the mark on this one.

    I found it too heavy as well. there are better alternatives for hot weather and protection like e.g Alpinestars Bogota Pro. or my old Acerbis X Tour from which I believe many companies took lessons from while designing new jactes (to mention Bogota jacket). Great system for all seasons, well maybe not when it is too cold. Enough ventilation, all stays on the jacket, you do not have to remove anything, light, AA rating.

    i got this jacket for few months . i like the feature where it got for hot weather with a lot of pocket ,but some minus points to cold/rain weather
    need to wear the green-black layer outside to be in good water proof condition . the main-layer itself , is not good for raining weather , cuz the sleeve which can be detach , water will get in ur armpit first ,and then spread in side. .from my own experiences

    The hook near the neck is not for keeping the flap open, it's for keeping the jacket open
    You'll find another hook and a rubber band on the bottom left outside the pocket

    Great review. I got this jaket a few months ago and I love it. For me works like a charm. Agreed with you, Alpinestars has some odd sizes: I had to get the Large jacket, XL throusers and XL gloves. I used it in mid and cold weather so far. Did an OK job, had to use the rain jacket on the top to stop the wind during some really cold rides (around 1-2 Celsius). It's shame that you need to pay extra for the back and chest protectors (added 140 GBP on top of the jacket). Before buying any motorcycle gear, I recommend to to and try it. I found a few brands or models, that will never fit me properly.

    Good revue. I like the big front pocket for touring. Somewhere to keep cards, tickets passes etc. Handy at tollbooths and border checks in Europe. The front zip is difficult to operate especially if there is any weight in the front pouch. I’m happy with it but it is not as good as Ryan makes out.

    Thank you for the review. I'm an M-long guy and also considered this jacket. As you noted in the video, I as well was "surprised" by the quality in terms of sewing where I found the twisted and tight arms. Great idea - poor realisation.

      You're welcome, glad it helped! For the twisted cuff, I guess it was in the first batches and it should be sorted out by now, but for the size, this really ain't a M-tall type of jacket :)

    Great review and agree. All in all a good jacket with lots of Pro's and Cons but I still can't get used to the side zip. I'd say more suited to long rides

    I bought this jacket in the U.K. and am now wondering if Gore-Tex was a better choice considering how much it rains here

    • @Speedytrip
      @Speedytrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Gore-tex sure is hard to beat but Im sure the halo rain jacket is 100% waterproof just that you need to carry it along all the time. How do you like the rest of the jacket? :)

      @@Speedytrip I do like the jacket it’s really well ventilated and the best for the two months of summer in the U.K. 😅. Also it goes well with the techstar airbag vest that I got.. I haven’t put it to test in the rain but am sure it will be soon .

    just like you said, at that price point is lacking. I have an Alpinestars JAWS, love the jacket, except the zipper puller, its small and difficult to use with gloves on.

      Worse case scenario, it will cost you 7$ to return it if you don't like it. There's many reviews of owners who love it, it just wasn't for me (I bought a RevIt Sand 4 H2O jacket and pants and a Revit Trench GTX, and also have a RevIt mesh jacket for the really hot days. :)

    This jacket has sort of dropped in and out of availability, I assume there have been some manufacturing issues - it is quite an unusual design so probably a high chance of users "stress testing" by mistake. The low CE A rating is also disappointing for the price.
    IMO Revit does a better job with slightly more conventional jackets that offer similar versatility and better CE rating with their Offtrack 2 and Sand 4 ranges.

    • @Speedytrip
      @Speedytrip  ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the Revit jackets, unfortunately Im between sizes in that brand too (my mesh jacket is a Revit, and size is "ok", but not as critical as sizing for a jacket you wear in the cold).

    Hi mate, thanks for this honest review. I’m similar dimensions as you, only slightly taller, do you think if you’d have stepped down to the large it would have helped with the fit?
    This was on top of my list, especially since watching the F9 episode you mentioned. I might think again after seeing this.

    • @Speedytrip
      @Speedytrip  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you found it useful :) I think it would have helped with the collar size, but the sleeves would have been shorter and the cuff size as small or smaller making it worse. I would definitely try it in store before buying, its a tricky one if you have similar dimensions to me…

    What is that small topbox at 2:11 ? I've been looking for something small to strap to the back of my bike to hold some tools/water when I go enduroing. That looks exactly like what I've been trying (and failing) to find!

      Nanuk 905 bought from amazon. Made in Canada and I absolutely love it, just the right size. I put air compressor, jack, tire spoons, tools and a small bottle of visor cleaner.

      The downside of shopping online at some stores, many online stores in canada will charge 7$ if theres nothing wrong with the product, and 0$ if there’s a defect.

    Whats a good jacket for a tall and really skinny guy?

    • @Speedytrip
      @Speedytrip  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Great question, youll definately want to try a brand that sells TALL sizes. That way you get the correct length without the bulk. You might want to give revit a try, order medium tall or large tall, its european so slimer to start with. You can also have an Aerostitch custom made. Good luck!

    I was considering this jacket for the versatility, but ended up buying a (much discounted) Held Gore Tex jacket.
    Yes it's black nylon (with a hi viz strip), not the most stylish option, still ok tho, but it's perfect for 90% of my commuting rides spring to autumn, even if it does not have all the ventilation options (opening the front zipper few inches pretty much solves it)
    obvious advantage is couple of hundred EUR saved for other stuff and I can just close the zip vents jump right under a waterfall and stay dry. And I ride it in near zero temperatures with only a shirt and fleece jacket underneath. Good fit and adjustability, especially in the waist area, is what makes a windproof jacket truly windproof.
    For these few weeks of tropical weather here in central Europe, I have the oxford kevlar shirt which lets all the wind through...and water too.
    so that is my take on super verastile items, such as this.

    • @Speedytrip
      @Speedytrip  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah I had a Kilm Kodiac that was Gore-tex AND had insane ventilation, unfortunately colar was too large so rain would come in from there, and sleeves were quite tight in the elbows (it was a weird size overall, that's why it almost fit me perfectly lol). Until I find something else, I still use my faded Tourmaster and have a light grey Revit mesh jacket which is better than wearing a t-shirt under the sun :) I think Alpinestars are onto something with the Halo jacket, but it still needs some work to be great at anything, have the necessary adjustability and I think that side zipper idea should probably go. Thanks for watching! :)
