U fuckers who listen elliott smith to be sad are crazy cowards. I mean there's a sad content to the song, but its only for good, its a beautiful song, makes u a man. Sorry, i cant stand that cliché, being sad its also a part of being a man, or a woman of course
this song isn’t released, it was supposed to be on basement on a hill I believe, but it was cut, a prototype version is available on TH-cam, it’s much more produced and has slightly different lyrics. Just look up Elliott smith stick man, you should find it
I prefer this one mostly and that extra verse is fire but honestly friend, the live version of this just cuts to the bone. How he just with a guitar is so vulnerable and beautiful and penetrates with that minimal

This is one of my favorite songs. Gosh I see why he cut the final verse on other versions but it's so real. I feel you Elly. Love you RIP friend I didn't get to meet
The maraca and the first couple of chords are so like 'A Day In The Life'. Whether or not thats intentional its still really cool.Today is an #ElliottSmith kinda day. And before someone else says it - EVERY DAY is an Elliott Smith kinda day!

That line is so cool. I'd forgotten what he said. One my favorites of all of him. I hope in like 300 years, people will still be listening to Elliott Smith and by then, every one will have realized his music was one of coolest gifts this world has ever received.
Context aside, i can not help but question why and HOW this fckin track was not on Basement... Please i understand everyone assumes its all about suicide. even so. No way he’d want it scrapped like so
John come on dude, not everytime a great suicidal male artist dies it’s their girlfriend actually murdering them. Those are mother issues talking .... It’s just a really sad thing. I wish he could have got his happiness back - but he got behind and he got down and then he got way behind (in addiction) and way down and then there wasn’t really anything he could do about it. It is sad - this song is so beautiful though.

On my way to the club in Jersey! BEST hype song!
That is really funny - bravo. Could you imagine? I guess I could because I’m like that sad of a dude - but it’s not the ideal hype song, no....

Oh wow. This is the most superior version I think. That backing loop is so otherworldly and creeping. The harmony and piano coming in are superb.
I much prefer this version to the "album version" recording. The faster, bigger studio recording. Doesn't do the song justice like this one does.
It's great

Project what's done so everything's in phase
To me they're color reversals
and I'm a stickman in frames that go one by one
If I sped it up you'll see I'm on the run
From some monster off screen killing sons

I'm pretty sure for the last chorus, instead of "stickman" he says "sick man"
I always thought it was "Stickman, i live with one dimension depth"
A stickman is two-dimensional, so he lives with one dimension less than a normal man, or "with one dimension dead".
I really love the low tuned plucking in the background throughout
“Hate might paint me red if I load my magazine”... Woah there
Well it's true. We're limited here in some ways
