Good for you bro. Happy you were able to paint your shingles the color you desire without getting a new roof. Things are so expensive these days I’m going to do mine now because of this video! Thank you 🙏🏻
Excellent job!! I was trying to convince my husband that painting shingles was possible. You provided the proof! Lol Thank you!
Naturally one “can” paint asphalt shingles. That doesn’t mean one should paint asphalt shingles. If the shingles are still under warranty (some have a 50 year warranty), then application of a coating will void warranties in most cases. It is best to contact the installer or manufacturer before doing so.
NO
It looks SO MUCH BETTER! You did a great job.
I am forwarding this video to my husband to add to his list of home renovation projects to do. Great job!
I used this product on my shingles and still looks fine 3 yrs later in the Florida sun. I would avoid dark colors like black slate if you live in hot climates, the direct heat will cause the shingles to slightly curl
Looks WAY better!
Great job!
I would paint your front door now some pop-up bright color… What an amazing job you did, Looks So much better!
Great job!!! Looks amazing. Thanks for explaining
wow it looks fantastic!
Thank you. Great job. Very economical.
In my opinion you could seal coat the roof with Acrylic Elastomeric Reflective Roof Coating. Last over 10 years. Cooler temp inside during the summer. Thanks for sharing, Lee.
That would be the worst thing to apply on shingles, it prevents the shingles from breathing which causes them to deteriorate. The Behr product does not affect the shingles
Looks great❤
Excellent video! Thank you!!!!!
Hi, thank you for all the information, very instructive video, is there here in USA something similar to Selleys Adhesive Mechanical Fastener Flexible pointing to protect mortar hips and ridges from sun exposition?
Well done!
Omg!!! Forget about the lines this is a fantastic result!!! Over all it was a genius idea!!!❤ I’m speechless!!
Very nice!
looks great
Nice work! So no priming i noticed. I thought that would be a waste as well annnnddd Im painting just a shed roof like 1/8 the size of what you did here. So that said Im not buying a sprayer i'll be using a roller. Any recommendations on the rollers? I'm reading foam type some places and other just talk size. Thanks
question can i use this on exterior walls?
one side of my house gets sun heat from 6 am - 5 pm and was wondering if i can use this on exterior stucco
Looks good
great video, its a year later how is it holding up?
Hi what tip did you use for spray the roofpaint, and what filters for the sprayer and gun did you use thanyou
Hmmm....so I'm looking to do solar panels on my roof and right now bifacial panels are really attractive. Both for price and how much power they generate. I have a black roof so that really cuts back on how much benefit you can get on the bifacial panels. Basically any sunlight that hits the backside of the solar panel also hitting the solar cells and will generate some power. Thus bifacial. I'm thinking that painting the roof underneath the solar panels as white and as reflective as can be is definitely worth the effort. Your application was for athletics so you had to worry about how it looked. Mine will be utilitarian and underneath solar panels so I can just slop all 5 gallons on with abandon. Lol. Thanks for the video mate. Your house looks great by the way. I actually said out loud "oh that's much better" once you showed how it looked when everything was dry. Cheers!
I just want to say this exactly the situation I found myself in. We bought the coolest home all renovated modern inside with the same Damm reddish brown roof you had. I want to do a similar color you did. My roof is pretty damm big but I can do it. Could I just roll and brush the whole thing you think? Thanks for sharing great job 👏
Definitely doing this. We have a new roof so we shouldn't have to use the cleaning solution.
I'm thinking of doing the same. No one in my town does it. Why didn't you use the primer?
I've painted 2 different roof black slate color. I always go long ways with my sprayer. Keep a wet edge. Do long sweeps from corner to corner sane as shingleplacement. You won't see the lines like this guy had.
Hi what tip did you use to spray the roof, and what filters for the gun and the machine did you use? I hope you help me. We have a large roof to paint with roof paint from Homdepot. Thankyou
@Yuriana Garcia I have a sprayer from harbor freight. It comes with a standard nosil. I'm not sure on the size. But I didn't use a filter for the sprayer. It has one built in . But I do use a cheese cloth and get the clumps out the 5 gallon. Then you're good.
The less restrictions the better . You don't wanna be having a clog on the roof . I would even take off my filter if I pre filter my paint well with cheese cloth.
@@sexweightsproteinshakes thankyou so much
Awesome
Still looks good to me, even with the lines.
I would paint your front door black too.
How did the paint last?
Did the lines ever disappear?
Does the paint add protection to roof or just a change in color. Good idea to spray it because it gets into tiny crevices and is more uniform. How’s the paint color holding-up so far?
Been holding up great
Not bad. I had no idea they made a roof paint.
Neither did I
yea wondering how it holds up over time. looks alot better. maybe another coat will hide those lines
Another coat probably would hide them but I'm too lazy for that. I'll do an update in a year and as needed to show how it holds up
@@tonto_bobupdate please..it's been almost a year.. looking forward to try this on my roof..to save up some money
How is your cooling bill? Did it make a diference?
Can you give an update please?@tonto_bob
What paint sprayer did you use & did you have to thin the paint out?
I think I said it in the video, but it is a wagner control pro 130. Its a $230 painter and paints like a professional set up. Did not have to thin at all. The amount of pigment made the paint thin though
Are you worried there will be brown patches as the paint weathers? Will you need to repaint every few years?
I'll do an update in a year and see. So far we have had lots of rain and nothing has washed off or faded after about 3 weeks now
I imagine if paint on other surfaces can last many years paint on the roof should last as well, we have to repaint metal roofs but probably at the same rate that you need to replace a cheaper shingle roof
Whats the update?
Damn, nice work, with the price of roofing or construction work its good to test things like this. How has it held up?
still looks like the day i painted it
@@tonto_bob good to know always looking at ways of extending the maintenance cycle. Thanks 😊
Does this paint provide any protection for your roof ?
Holy crap Lisa 😮you're beautiful ❤️
I was told to do not paint my roof because it will sweat and the plywood will get wet. Is that true??
save your back and get a wand extender for the sprayer.
I heard it causes roof root by holding in moisture
Hearing voices in your head?
You could have painted the front door and and the shutters the color of roof to bring everything together.
Is there roof paint in black?
not that I found
Slate color
@@kingalainc1 thank you
@@rjdodgerz2776 don't use black...it will make your home hot as hell 🔥🥵
You want to make your attic as hot as possible?
Thats why is important to get a PRO to do the job...! What a difference you could see in the finish appearance.
update video pls
👍👍👍👍👍
How much it run ya $$?? Thanks
At 0:50 in to the video I say that I spent $175 on the 5 gallons of roof paint, I did not mention that I also spent $45 on the roof cleaner
@@tonto_bob do i need to add primer before I paint the roof?
I am a roofer and there are reasons why a licensed, reputable roofing company would never do this to shingles. You are definitely creating water traps which could very well cause wood rot before you realize there is even a problem. If you live in a dry climate then you may be okay. Coatings tend to begin to peel off shingles as the granule system begins to fail. I'd like to know how this is doing 1 year later
If you don't spray under the shingles there will be no water traps. The idea is to paint shingles on top only and left the gap between the top and bottom shingles for water to run down.
Roofing companies don't do it because they don't make money of this. They want to sell you roof replacing
@@MrNiceCobra , roofing companies don't do it because we know better and it's really ridiculous to do. I could absolutely go out and charge a customer and be very profitable doing so but I don't do shit work. You can't tell me it won't create water traps. In fact you couldn't educate me on anything roofing. Go on with all of that nonsense. This really is a stupid argument. If you aren't really skilled at something then why try to inform someone who is? Also if you knew anything there is way more money to be made doing roof repairs than doing reroofs that are not needed.
Not the same house!
It was fine without the paint.
that's not to smart bro. Just put new shingles on. Painting shingles will ruin them
If they will be ruined then he will replace it. We'll see how it holds
yeah... i do not think you're better off... sorry dude
looks like shit 3/10
Your language 1/10!
Edit: 0/10.
lol
I bet you live in a dump!
You could have replaced that roof for less than $4k and not worried about it for 25 years......or more. How much is your time worth?
do you mean shingle OVER?.... because replacing will drive up the costs fast if they have to tear down to base surface
4k lol not in this timeline
