I agree. The 401 and 416 is probably an easier drive because it's all freeway, but I often choose Hwy 7 over the 401 when I travel to Ottawa. Thanks for the comment.
@Rick-C-117 an extra 2 hours? 😂 You don't have to stop at every McDonald's on the way! I used to drive it 10-12 times a year, to visit my parents and if it took longer it was minutes not hours.
New subscriber. I've never done Toronto to Ottawa via Hwy 7. Will defintely do it. When I watched this video and others I slow the speed down to the lowest setting. I find it much more enjoyable especially when it's a route I've never taken. Wishing you safe journeys!
Great video. For anyone who is a highway history buff, you can still still see the original, narrow Highway 7 alignment west of Perth for several kilometres on the south side. It’s flanked by trees. Amazing to see what now looks like a trail was once a major provincial highway.
There are a few old alignments of Highway 7 that dart off to the side. I think my favourite is Beatty's Curve Road, between Actinolite and Kaladar. You can't really see it in the video, but it's pretty narrow and low by modern standards. Thanks for the comment.
@@Skokatoy Perhaps some of that is a former CP line but there is a wonderful site about the history of King's Highways that has pictures of the alignment to which I was referring.
Drive between Peterborough and Ottawa is very nice and scenic... particularly nice in the fall with the colours and at an off time with little traffic Hwy #7 between Peterborough and Norwood is a dangerous stretch with regular and serious accidents, so drive safe 👍
What a long drive along the TCH Central Ontario Route! We know that ON 7/TCH starts in Petersborough, ON and ends at the 417 as the TCH Ottawa Valley Route.
I always enjoy watching the longer form videos from you. It sure is a pleasant surprise! It’s funny the timing actually, because I plan on maybe filming this westbound next weekend. I’m heading out to Montreal June 27-30 and am planning to head back through Ottawa via A-50 and back to Toronto via Highway 7/115. I’m not entirely sure what to expect next Sunday given that the holiday is on the Monday, so I’m assuming there won’t be much traffic, but still not sure. Nice work on the video! Glad I can get a glimpse of this road, before I potentially drive it myself. I have never driven this portion of 7 personally.
I drove Hwy 7 westbound a few weeks ago on the way back from Montreal myself. They were doing some night paving between Carleton Place and Perth (it was well after dark when I drove it). As long as you aren't coming back on the Holiday Monday traffic shouldn't be too bad. Thanks for the comment.
Branch off if you've got the time and go visit the town of Westport and the view from Foley Mountain ( Spy Rock).......there's lots of winding motorcycle roads all through the area south of Maberly to Westport. Perth is another great stopover before you come into Ottawa

I honestly never expected an almost one hour long video. But honestly, this is an amazing way to start off the summer! Have a great summer AP, btw Also, some bad news the Canadian actor Donald Sutherland died yesterday at 88 years old from a long illness
I drive from SW Ontario to Ottawa fairly often. No more 401 through Toronto. No more gridlock in TO. I am happy to pay for the 407 to the 35/115 and then a beautiful drive through highway 7 to the 417. Very happy.
I remember driving to Ottawa in 2021 during the covoy in Ottawa. What's crazy is my GPS was taking me to Quebec, I had to ensure the route I was taking didn't take me into Quebec. I don't speak French and I would basically be leaving Ontario, the highway can get lonely with empty fields for miles. If you were stranded you'd be screwed, the next exit is 15 kilometers walking.
18:14 always has to be at least one black truck in the passing lane not passing...wish they would enforce the drive in the driving lane rule in this province...

It's expensive but not terrible, I don't go out to Toronto that much but when I do I always take the 407. So much faster than sitting in gardiner/427/401 traffic for an extra hour or two. If you're on it at peak times then you pay more obviously but I was on it last week and went 45km both ways, was only like $25-27 or something like that. Time is money.
I felt like I was driving- sometimes felt you were going to hit the car in front of you. Is it at all possible to put the names of the towns as you pass them? I've not yet been to that part of our province and would be interested to know the names. Thanks for this driving video-- going to check out the rest.
I'd still stick with highway 401 + 416, as I think this takes too long and I hate one lane roads (I think the 401 is also narrow - it becomes a 2 lane road outside of the GTA). However I am still curious, much longer does highway 7 take?
I noticed that Highway 417 through Ottawa has random and constantly changing signage, some of the arrows are diagonal while others are the normal pointing down ones and more than one sign has arrows with pointed sides rather than straight sides.
There is a lot of legacy signing in Ottawa that is non-standard from what appears in other parts of Ontario. Some of it is just old, but eastern Ontario has always had a propensity to design odd signs. The must-exit sign for Richmond heading east through the 416 interchange is particularly unique (even though I rather like the sign). Thanks for the comment.
Moved up to the Ottawa Valley in 77' from the Quinte region. Always used the 401 to whip down to Hogtown. Avoid hwy Seven like the plague, whenever possible. Known many drivers who've been involved in fatal crashes on 7.
it's actually more like 480kmh. If you slow down the video down to .5 half speed it's more like 220kmh. But the crazy thing is even at 220kmh it feels like you're goin 120km on the 407. Which makes you wonder why this corrupt government runed by that fat fck keeps us in the stone age with these stunt driving laws, especially on the 407 late at night after midnight when it's completely empty. Doesn't make sense
Do you find Highway 7 narrower between Havelock and Marmora than east of Marmora? Whenever I drive on Highway 7 between Kanata and GTA, I can't help but feel that.
Nice video AP and yes I know St. Hubert Chicken but imo Benny BBQ is better both of them from Montreal. Anyways thanks for taking us with you on this drive.

I would think that the 115 is probably for the most part up to 400 series highways standards, so I'd suspect it's pretty much in line with interstate standards as well.
I'm not sure how much the 407 bill was for this trip. I filmed this in 2021. If i were to guess the trip probably would have cost about $30. I filmed the westbound 407 from Peterborough to Downtown Toronto the morning before I filmed this, so the 407 made a good buck on me that day.
