    Man, John Stockton was the definition of mr. Basketball with all that grit, grind, physical & mental toughness, yet feels so underrated.. Needs more recognition, dude was a beast.

      @David Lawrence it happens when you facing the greatest player in the NBA history... also possibly the greatest team. Chapionship is won by team not individual.
      But there is all his peers and the likes of Steve Nash and Jason Kidd approving he's the baddest pg there was. to be honest I'll take the word of The Glove, aka the best defensive pg all time.

    John Stockton and Pete Maravich were other-worldly talented. Eyes in the back of their heads and always ready to make the pass off to get the point. They drew the defense and counted on that to make plays. Great watching those guys.

    Payton played against Stockton in the 93 96 & 2000 playoffs (each of which went to a seventh game)
    Utah & Seattle were in the Midwest division at that time

      Seattle was in the Pacific division, never Midwestern. And the 93 and 2000 playoff match ups with Utah were both in the first round. So they couldn't have had 7 games, could they?

    I played two pick up games with GP at Dixon Rec Center at OSU in '90. I got him three assists. The guy wasn't a jerk, he just got bored with lesser players and wouldn't shut up. My sophomore year I got Brent Barry - the only white guy to win the slam dunk contest. I tried to teach him some golf theory, but his dad was promoting the Medicus. Both really cool guys. Go Beavs.

      The Bulls would still win, never bet against Jordan in a 7 game series. That being said, having GP on Jordan would of been great, it be interesting to see what Phil and Michael would do from game 1.

    • @masterofpuppets232

      Yeah but Payton had an injury so jordan would have still took over...people say Payton still played high minutes leading up to that 4th game right...40 plus minutes but he didn't guard jordan...if he had to I'm telling you it would have been different...jordan never sat in one place...and pippen jad a horrible shooting series shooting 38 % that series...i believe he would have been the factor...if Payton focused on my would pippen step up...if pippen still played the same then sure it would have been a game 7 win or game 7 loss

      @travisj.1938 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      eye2thebeholder - funny thing is I had literally forgot all about that narrative to you brought it up. Agree 100 percent. Payton was a defensive maestro and didn't fear no one.
      Wish he would've finished his career up here in Seattle though. Would've been sweet to see him play with Ray Allen.

    • @moety2
      @moety2 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s tough to say. Everyone knows MJs killer instinct. Say in game 1 Jordan lights GP for 40, then what? It was probably better for the Sonics to give MJ a different look later on in the series. Once the Bulls made the adjustments, it was game over.

    Remember when Basketball was a Team sport. Man, I've got some of the greatest memories of playing Basketball all over the Midwest. I used to beat up on Danny Manning, in Lawrence. He couldn't handle my game. I guess I should say, he was 14 and I was 19. He was a good kid. Played with Reggie Theus, Phil Ford, Scott Wedman, Tiny Archibald, Big Sam Lacey. So many. KU Center Paul Mokeski used to come by the Gas Station I worked at, when I was going to KU. He'd pull up to the pump and I'd watch him climb out of a frigging Volkswagen. I mean, Paul was bigger than the Car. I think he may have been 7'1 or 7'2. I said, Paul, why don't you get a bigger Car. He'd say, I love the looks on people's faces. He was a good guy. So many wonderful times. Hanging with guy's who just loved the Game. Drank beers with Larry Brown at the Wheel, in Lawrence. We were All brothers, back then. Miss them ALL.

    Stockton's assist record will never be broken, ever. Stockton's steals record will never be broken, ever. The ONLY reason why Magic is rated higher is that Stockton never got a ring. But John was absolutely the greatest point guard ever in the half court offense. Old school tough.

    The shit Payton got for saying John was harder to guard than Micahel was ridiculous! I remember watching that interview and thinking why are they questioning him, telling him he's wrong.
    If you don't like his answer then don't ask the question. The man played both and it's NOT his opinion it's his FACTS! John Stockton was harder to guard than Michel Jordan!
