    After how many 9mm bullets reloaded dose this machine and basic equipment pay for itself?

    • @ReloadingMoreAD1966
      @ReloadingMoreAD1966  ปีที่แล้ว +18

      👍▶Thanks for taking interest in my content. Now this is an excellent question. recently someone else asked the same question on a different video so here is what I worked out. Here are my own workings as follows:
      🔶Based on 9mm setup only. (Changing caliber is approximately $100 addition, mostly dies and shell plate)
      🔶ALL FIGURES & CALCULATION DONE January 2022 as follows:
      $300 _ Lee Pro 1000 Press 9mm, ref. 90640.
      $020 _ Lee Case Collator, ref. 90667.
      $045 _ Lyman Ammo Checker, ref. 7833000.
      $012 _ Dillon precision case lube, ref. 13733.
      $055 _ Scale frankford arsenal, ref. DS-750
      $050 _ Price estimate for a generic caliper.
      $048 _ Price estimate for kinetic bullet puller.
      $530 _ TOTAL INVESTMENT of above listed item ONLY.
      $160 _ TOTAL Calculated price of raw materials to fabricate 1000 rounds type (CPRN-124gr) "brass cases free)

      $300 _ TOTAL Average price for factory loaded ammo, 1000 rounds, 124gr.
      🔶Therefore, excluding labor cost, I save $140/1000 Rounds.
      🔶Therefore, investment of $530 / Savings of $140 = 3786 rounds.
      🔶Therefore, after 4000 rounds I start saving $140 / 1000 rounds I send down range.
      🔶🔶🔶 In short, after 4000 rounds I cover my investment cost. You will need some more equipment so worst case I would say after 5000 you should be ok.

      Personally, I don't reload to save money. It is more of a 'get exactly what I want, when I want it' kind of thing. I am able to personalize every cartridge for a specific firearm and shooting requirement. At the rate I upgrade and buy more toys.....I seriously doubt that I will ever save money.

      good morning and thanks for stopping by the channel Jeff👍👍🥇. The Pro 1000 is a great press. this here is the older model but I have also purchased the new 2023 model but had no time so far to do much with it. I am working a lot with the Lee SIX pack Pro, "Lee 6000" now and also have a few good clips already on the channel. For the New Pro 1000, I have an unboxing clip that you might find helpful. I have never fitted a bullet feeder on the 1000 but I guess it will work fine after you have all in place.
      Very glad you find this clip interesting. getting the closeups is sometimes difficult but this one here cam out great.

    Man, that's fun to watch, anything that speeds loading 9mm. I only handload exotic stuff and leave the fmjs to factory. But this method makes loading target loads less monotonous. I'd like to mention the leed reloading stand removes any jiggling or deflection by the press and all your effort goes into the ram. I can see how that much deflection in the entire press shifting might lead to short strokes. Those metal stands. are actually a great investment.

      Thanks so much for stopping by James👍👍👍👍. Glad you like this one. The stand you see here was the first I did. The weld cracked after a few hours and this movement is the result of me not noticing immediately. The new stand is stronger and there are no issues with movement when using. There is also a longer and more details process if you like to spend some more time here. Take care and have a great day. th-cam.com/video/etEE3MgxAO0/w-d-xo.html

      Hi Len. The lee pro 1000 is a great progressive press. I think it is the best value for money when it comes to progressive. I had this one for few years and have run several 1000's of rounds. mostly I am using this for 9x19, .38, .357 and .45ACP. I suggest you keep the press exactly as is for a few months so that you get to know EXACTLY how it operates. this will give you a better understanding of what is safe and what might increase the risks for double charges, swapped primers, crushed cases, and so on.
      When you are confident of how it operates and you have run few rounds with it, have a look look around my channel and others for a few modification done along the years as they might prove useful also for you. The primer ramp modification was a life saver for me.
      Also stay tuned this month because within the coming week, I have a nice clip for this press coming out on some nice .45 ACP rounds.
      take care and thanks for your comments.

      @@lens7859 If you have the patience fix the primer feeder issues as they can be fixed. Using the press by means of putting the dies in the "Wrong" place requires lots of changes and it increases your compromise on safety.
      I use the press by placing the dies as they are intended and for the additional crimp, such as that for the 357 magnum, with a 4th die on s single stage is my solution.
      If you still would like to avoid priming on the Lee than get a hand primer and prime your cases in advance. Remember to remove the decapping pin from die 1 on the press if your cases are already primed. th-cam.com/video/f_0xNbKaato/w-d-xo.html

      Good morning Large Jarv. The issue you have with the primer feed is not coming from the powder type, at least that is what I think. I am assuming that powder is getting lost from the powder feeder/charge disk connector. You may need to change the rubber gasket item AD3396.

    Looking to get in to reloading, both pistol (9, 40, and 10) and rifle (5.56, 270, various .30s, and 350) cases. For rifle, I am thinking of doing two press set-up assembly. First would be a single stage to decap, then tumble, then back to the single stage to neck size, following with a trimmer. Changing neck sizing dies to match caliber.
    Second press would be a progressive set up to prime, charge, seat bullet, and crimp neck. Changing the turret with dedicated dies mounted for each particular caliber. Buying a new caliber components and turret set up each year until I have what I need to load for the rifles I have.
    Would Lee's loadmaster progressive be acceptable for a budget minded, able to grow set-up?

      From my end, I see you have a good plan in place. The Lee loadmaster is absolutely great. I don't have that model but I have friends that us the loadmaster on all sort of calibers and they are very satisfied.
      With regards to value for money, I would say without a doubt that it is number one when it comes to Lee products. I see no real issue should you upgrade and buy additions from time to time as lee has a great inventory of added components.
      Good luck Jason.

      I suggest a turret press for the rifles over the two single stage set up. I've done both. If you get a lee classic turret press and take the auto index rod out it functions like a single stage. Next step just turn the turret. Takes up less room and you can leave your dies set up in the turret if you buy one for each caliber.

    • @ReloadingMoreAD1966
      @ReloadingMoreAD1966  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello and thanks for stopping by. Using cast bullets, copper plated or FMJ is no issues with any reloading die. Lee make set of 3 dies, item 90764 for 455 Webley MARK II but you will also need a shell plate and as far as I know they don't make one for this press. The 455 will require also a roll crimp if I am not mistaken. Personally, for this caliber, I would go for a single stage press not a progressive press. in addition, this is one caliber you what to make according to your gun age and condition as original guns made for this calibers tend to be old and might not manage the stresses as one would expect.
      Don't be fooled by my entertainment video that reloading is a mundane and easy operation. Reloading is a very dangerous affair and it requires lots of time, patience and restraint. Even so, mishaps can happen..
      Take care and have a great week🙏👍

    • @ReloadingMoreAD1966
      @ReloadingMoreAD1966  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello Jawsmod. Going blue is a great, if not the greatest option. I have had the pleasure to see some of them presses working. The level of consistence and reliability is second to none.
      For a less costly solution, the Pro 1000 is great. i had the same issues you had for sure with the priming system but the be honest, they have gradually, after several small modifications gone away. I am certain I destroyed not a single primer on my last run of 1000 rounds in 9mm. I am so accustomed to the press and I know exactly how and what to do to make it work that changing it at the moment is not something I consider. Now mind you, I am loading only pistol calibers on it.
      You can find a short of the Dillon press I uploaded recently. Might have a longer clip soon but having issue capturing the process as good as I would prefer.
      regards for now, Thanks for your comment and have a great day.

      Good morning Bill & Jean. What I have here is a standard endoscope camera directly attached to an old Sony Xperia Phone. I installed the software that came with the camera and it works fine. If I may, let me suggest you have a look at my other clip because it has most likely all the data you need. th-cam.com/video/OaCQr102rzo/w-d-xo.html

      Thank you so much for you positive comment. The press is working great and no issues with 9mm at all. I will soon start working on a similar video for .45ACP, but as you can imagine, it takes a lot of time to get all the angles correct and to edit , before I can place on youtube.
      I hope to have it up in September at the latest.
      Regards and have a great day.
      Thanks again

      @@affariinternet5240 Questa qui è la lee pro 1000. Una pressa eccellente. Il costo totale è inferiore a €400. Ci sono molte altre press ma questa è fantastica. Per 9mm, .45, .38Sp e .357 Magnum questa pressa è perfetta. 9x21 non è comune qui, ma la produzione è la stessa procedura. How to bypass hand placing each head? Anyone come up with 3d printed part for this yet? 😂

    • @ReloadingMoreAD1966
      @ReloadingMoreAD1966  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Rj. The Lee pro 1000 has a system that can be purchased separately at under $60, item 90893. This will enable you to put the heads in the collator tube and they are one-by-one placed on top of the case, just before they enter the seating die.
      Now personally, I prefer to place each head independently because it is indirectly inspecting the head and also the powder level visually for the very last time before closure of the round.
      3D printed systems you will find so many. BUT, my preferred 3D option is from a good friend and community member Franco Red. Have a look at his channel also and you will be amazed what level he has upgraded the press too. Let him know I sent you in the comments. By far my top man for Lee pro 1000 modifications.
      Thanks Rj and have a great day.

    I just bought this and found your channel. It hasn't arrived yet but I was looking to see if you had suggestions for tuning the priming feed set-up and any other suggestions for smoother operation?

    • @ReloadingMoreAD1966
      @ReloadingMoreAD1966  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi. First of all, thanks for the subscription.
      There are so many modification available for this press but I suggest you only focus on what you will eventually need. I would suggest you only do some addition to the primer feed system as this seems to be the number one issue every one has on this press.
      My system works fine for me but I know there are other available online. I have a clip that can give you some pointers on the primer system, look at the second segment of the clip"th-cam.com/video/ysneL8YRHFs/w-d-xo.html" make sure you never scratch the inside of the primer feeder ramp and never blow air on the ramp to remove powder or any other foreign object. If you do, what will happen is that small particles of oil will move from under the shell plate and get your primers stuck. Also don't over lubricate, especially the shell plate.
      in addition, make sure you go on the LEE site and have a look at the informative videos. In my opinion, the most delicate operation and the one that might give you issues is setting the die to your desired dimensioning, the one that fits your head's and weapon. this part of setting up you can see so many clips but eventually it is you who have to decide.
      I strongly recommend you do absolutely no other change before you understand exactly how the press is functioning and before you start understanding what risks might come up from any modification. Some modification might look good but occasionally they might expose you to added safety risks when loading.
      regards for now

      @@ReloadingMoreAD1966 Yeah of course ! I know likes and subs are crucial to any TH-camr. Plus you have some content I want to watch ! So I don’t want to miss new videos. The quality of this video is for sure extremely detailed and helpful.
      I agree, I bought this press because it seemed like the next best option to the Hornady, Dillion, and RBCS presses. I figured I would learn how to reload using a progressive press as I didn’t want to really use a single for 9mm. When I eventually get into loading match/hunting rounds I probably will for rifles use a single stage but that won’t be for a while.
      Thanks for the suggestions for the primer and the clip link.
      Would you suggest like a delicate brush to remove any powder/debris as to avoid oil?
      I did check out the website and watched their video on how to adjust the positioning of the dies. Very much a feel, measure and adjust process.
      I plan to run the press as-is from the factory then to do any mods to address any issues that may arise. Like you said, I think it would be best to learn it’s base function then go in after learning the risks/dangers. I’m a Chemical Engineer by background so I am weary of handling any chemicals/flammables.
      Also , I was going to checkout/buy some reloading books. Anything specific you like ? I figure I could always do a Google search but I like getting personal recommendations if possible.
      Anyways , cheers ! Thanks for the help. We’ll see where it goes. Seems like now the biggest issue I have is getting powder and primers…

      @@jimmypadua1084 Hi Jimmy. You are welcome. I try my best on the clip to make them easy to understand, and as you might have noticed they are all without dialoged, and if there is any it is digitally generated and would have subtitles, so it is even more difficult to explain all details. My intention has always been to cater for all people but with special attention to people with hearing impairment, so as you can imagine, I have to be inventive to make things understood without dialogue. Anyway.
      For books, I have always used Lyman reloading manual. I have never purchased a copy but when I need data on new caliber I just get the copy from the gun store close by and copy the data I need. Hornady also have similar. Some propellant companies also have a mobile App that will give you all loadings such as that for vihtavuori. In addition, best ever info I got was from joining the forum "thefireingline.com". I have only reloaded handgun calibers so far and have no experience with rifle ammo reloading
      For cleaning the the primer area, I use a pipe cleaner, but never from the ends because it would scratch. I bend it and use it from the bent location in the center.
      Don't get frustrated as it takes time to get the press 100% to your liking. I can tell you from personal experience that even the most expensive Dillon press can be challenging to operate to your preference.
      Regards, stay tuned, thanks and have a good day

      @@ReloadingMoreAD1966 Very well done, and clean and easy to understand without dialogue. Supplies and equipment list is great. I just watched the video on the modifications. Seems pretty good! The primer jiggler mod and the spring mod seem easy enough to try. Like you said though, I shall try it 100% factory first. How would you say the spring mod has improved performance of the rig? I have seen a similar set-up else where as well bypassing the ball chain.
      Sounds good, I was also looking into the Lyman vibratory cleaner for brass. Any experience with that, or a preffered brass cleaning method? Makes sense though when you can just reference the store information. I figure since I primarilly will only be loading 9mm and maybe 20g shotgun in the future i wouldnt need a whole book quite yet if I can pull info from other places. Thanks for the forum as well.
      Great suggestion, pipe cleaners should be easy to attain. The bent ceneter is a good idea to prevent the sharp end from scratching the feed.
      Yeah figured it would be a slow learning process at first. I have plenty of spare time so I think its a good hobby for me to learn. And yes, I agree as well even with a top of line machine, if you are unable to tune it properly then results will be frustrating for sure.
      Once again, thanks for all the help! I am very excited to get the reloader in.

      @@jimmypadua1084 Good morning.
      Regarding the spring, I would refrain from doing this modification as I have gathered from several comment in the chat that it increases the possibility of a double charge dramatically, compared to the original chain. This is something I would avoid. The original system with chain works fine as I have used the chain for at least 3000 rounds before making an adjustment.
      For cleaning brass, I have 3 clips, one extremely detailed that might help you make your own system. For me, nothing cleans better and more economical that a rotary tumbler with stainless steel pins.
      Have a look and see the results
      regards
