does he know the original version of the guy getting gripped in the thumbnail is actually the Ayin from the hit indie game Lobotomy Corporation realsed in April 9, 2018 and made by a South Korean indie game studio named Project Moon?
I genuinely cant stand the irrational hatred for double jumps. It just feels nice to do and opens the door for platforming challenges wide open. Any other mechanic like the dash, ground pound, grapple, float among others Aren't slanderd like this and i never got why. Also a hat in time is peak wdym.
Im surprised "Im Scared" wasnt even mentioned, its basically one of the first 4th wall breaking games and its a really solid one at that (i think its getting a remake/sequel)
3:05 This joke is so accurate. When I asked my classmates from college what type of game will gonna do for diplom most of them they said "rougelike, because is easy". It's sad that most of those games will look similar, but hey, what we are doing it will be property for university, so let's better ideas left on later.
7:46 I really think IMSCARED is the first ever game to pull out these type of tricks. It makes you look at files and youtube videos for certain answers, same for Shipwrecked 64. What makes it shine is that many times, it will tell you that it will deceive you as many times as it can. However, it’s only two hours long and you need to collect all achievements to fully finish the game, which is not bad. Depends on how long you take on certain puzzles.
Honestly, I'm not much for strategy games either, but seeing Into the Breach win your pick was so funny for me because I had the exact same experience with the dev's other game, FTL. While I love A Hat In Time to bits, I do agree that its platforming wasn't anything special outside of a few standout levels (especially in the DLCs). I've always been in it more for the boss fights, level concepts, and extremely charming characters/writing.
Your choice of Rain World is fair, but there are a couple things that make a lot of people, myself included, choose Outer Wilds. Firstly, the pure emotion it evokes, and especially that banjo. The ending point hits home. At the end of the universe, all that really matters are the friends you made along the way. The music is brilliant. Second is that there is nothing even remotely close to providing what Outer Wilds achieved all around. Third, the world is there, it will always be there, and you just have to go and explore it. Every playthrough is unique and special. This is what makes Outer Wilds different. Thank you for reading! And I truly appreciate this video. Edit: Foekoe, you've played 69 minutes of Outer Wilds (nice), but have you ever beaten it?
Bit late for the video, but one of my favorite games is a survival-horror rpg called Barotrauma. While the game is definitely far from being completed, I can see the potential and progress the devs put into it. And while I think the gameplay loop can get a bit old purely because of how little content is in it so far, im really looking forward to more updates, and would love if you saw it.
I feel like undertale is the best EARTHBOUND type of rpg Epic battle fantasy 5 is the best FINAL FANTASY type of rpg And you should play it, its very underrated
I get why Undertale was chosen for the turn-based RPG category but in my opinion a lot of what makes Undertale great is its ability to subvert the tropes of the genre. It does nail turn-based combat perfectly (even if I think Deltarune does it better) but it is still kind of unfaithful to the genre as a whole with how meta it can be at some times. But then again, I don't know what other game I would've picked for this category (mostly because Deltarune is only 1/3rds finished lol), so maybe I am wrong about all this. Also Lisa the Painful should've gotten an honorable mention
About the survival section, have you heard of this game called Vintage Story? It looks like a minecraft clone, but it's far from it. It does survival extremely well, and I'd say it does it on par with Don't Starve. The mechanics are very in-depth, there's in-world crafting like voxel-based blacksmithing and clayforming, soil nutrients, food preservation, ore prospecting, a sanity mechanic, alcohol distillation and so much more. And despite all that depth it's still early access! You really should try this game, it's awesome. The only downside I see in this game is that it isn't on Steam, but that only really means you have more time to refund the game if you don't like it and the developers get more money without it costing too much. Well, I guess there is a downside for more casual players, but if you like Don't Starve, it's more of an upside. And considering the massive amounts of customization you can do in this game (without even counting the official modding API), even a casual player could enjoy it after tweaking it a bit.
Am I the only one that finds Enter the Gungeon to be the best, because it's one of the few Rogue-like games where you can win just from skill. The only downside the game has, is that sometimes a run feels too short and modding it is not supported. Also the pixelart of this game is just perfect and the soundtrack is an actual bop
my favorite roguelike is Deadcells. It's in my opinion (scary word) one of the best games out there. It's little motto of "Kill, die, learn, repeat" describes the game perfectly, going through metroidvania-like stages full of enemies and soulslike bosses (kinda) at the end that get really difficult and drive that motto home even more. The combat, weapons, enemies, levels, everything is just masterfully crafted, and with all the extra difficulties and its updates and DLCs the game does lack anything for you to do or play with which is great for a roguelike! I assume you've probably already heard of the game and maybe have or haven't played it, but if you haven't you absolutely should. The game received its last update earlier this year because Motion Twin cut all development so they could work on their new game Windblown. That whole situation makes me feel like the game has kinda been forgotten, so if you could bring some attention to it, or at the bare minimum try it for yourself because I feel the game is a genuine masterpiece and just not enough people care about it anymore. sorry for the super glazing please play cool game :)
i get that its your opinion and all, but the fact you called it *THE ULTIMATE INDIE GAME GUIDE* means of course some people will be mad with the outcome.
weirdest recommendation I can give you. Play slay the princess. Don't make a video about it, play it. It is the best visual novel I have ever experienced
OH MY FUCKING GOD THANK YOU. geometry dash is not a rhythm game! as a rhythm game lover, i've been saying this FOREVER. People can make rhythm BASED levels, but it's not a rhythm game. If any other game were to beat Rhythm Doctor, it shouldve been A Dance of Fire and Ice
Honestly for Turn Based RPG I think something else should have won, I think undertale is definitely the better game but definitely not the better turn based RPG
i guess i can see how you might not like a hat in time as a platformer because mechanically it isn't anything crazy and i get thinking a double jump is cheating for a 3d platformer. but saying the game is just fine not special is mind-blowing to me.
you should play white knuckle, there is currently a demo for it on steam rn, its like a horror climbing game, not sure how to really explain it but it is bery goob
You’ve played crash 4 right? Would you say the double jump there breaks the game? Or the Mario galaxy spin jump, or banjo kazooie? Double jumps if anything add more to the depth of platforming
If you've never played them Ion Fury, and Selaco are very amazing FPS's. Though I think the game Ricochet by the Indie Studio valve (Dunno if you've ever heard of them) is very good.
Honestly, I don't really agree with your opinion of Undertale. Yes, it's a good game, but I wouldn't classify it as an RPG. If we evaluate Undertale as you did with the other games on this list, its uniqueness comes from the story, the bullet hell mechanics, and the characters. However, it's not particularly special because of its turn-based RPG mechanics. You can play the entire game without needing to heal, and the "Act" mechanic often just involves finding the one option that works, without requiring much strategic thinking, which is a key aspect of turn-based RPGs. That said, this is just my perspective, and if you didn't enjoy Omori, it might indicate that turn-based RPGs aren't your preference. It's understandable that you'd favor a game that blends genres, but to me it's not coherent with the other games you decided for this list.
