I'm glad they did what they did with the camera because they standardized it for everyone. After a while of switching back and forth, I really can see how it gives an advantage. Having the option to zoom out is nice. There were several games I won simply because I spotted something at the edge of play that I would not have seen.
Well you could have zoomed out further before if you liked; however they have now implemented methods to prevent this in the first place.
So they would have evened the battlefield without changing the base zoom height.
Whilst you know when you have benefited from this extra zoom you do not know when your foe has benefitted from it. It's really helpful against infiltration attacks such as the scout sarge infiltration nade at point blank vs a side-capping unit.
I'm not really a fan tbh. We went over 10years with this zoom I don't see why it needs to be changed - it just harms the aesthetic of the game. Competitive skill is at all time lows so why exactly do we need to make the game hyper competitive with more zoom now of all times?
@SenpaiTorpidDOW What's weird is that the zoom doesn't seem to be farther out on GTG but maybe I am imagining. I am trying to make time to come back and play. Maybe this time I'll huff some ammonia hahaha. Kidding kids do not do that keep it drug free!

Sadly, the cup games they talk about at the start will not be casted by Torpid, because he didn't want to switch to tournament fix. Anyone interested can find thoose games on my channel with little less experienced casters.

That zoom out increase seems..unwise. Not even because of the fog, but because it feels like you get too much vision and get drawn out of the neat graphics during combat.
Dunno why seeing more fog bothers you. More zoom is good, especially for spectating.
No I disagree I think it's very bad for specating actually; you cannot see the fine details of the units/combat now. Sync kills and the models are far less visible.
Spectating the macro of the players, yes, that is easier and in general it makes it easier to micro engagements on multiple parts of the map that previously you couldn't because there are many instances of relatively close points not being visible on one screen but now they are.

Pretty big deal mate. I lost my schedule last week for the first time in months. This is a new patch.
The change to the zoom causing the fog to now appear on most 1v1 maps is extremely triggering to me.
I wonder how many others have this problem too.
