Comparisons have been made with Russian laws which the Kremlin has used to control its critics. Protesters worry civil rights and Georgia’s chances of joining the European Union will be threatened.

Hi, I'm speaking as a non-Georgian residing in a "western" country. This is a matter for Georgians and Georgians alone to decide. When the US threatens sanctions because Georgian's decide they want this law on the books, *that* is improper foreign influence in itself. If the US thinks these laws are bad, maybe it should stop giving countries more and more reasons to pass them.
You could also add that the US also has a similar law... Of course, principles are abstract in politics and all depend on "context"!
Rules based world order: AKA rules for thee but not for me.
Georgian here, thank you for the news headlines and the useful vocab 🙌
Stands off green lights sounds alarm
Impasse =stand-off
Where is Beth ? 💔
She'll be back soon!
Great explanation
So what the Americans have t hae same Law.
Thanks
The foreign agent law originates from the USA and is currently in force there. Why should the US sound any alam?
'Sounds alarm" and "green lights" have the same meaning in Brazil, because of that I could understand easily.
It is very useful video like always ❤
Thanks~
You never told about protests in Western Europe and USA, as if protests happen only in post Soviet countries and third world countries. You didn't tell us about farmer protests and truck protests in Europe. Anti French protest in New Caledonia is happening at the moment, the state of emergency has been imposed

There are a lot of channels where you can find the real picture of how the EU is degrading now.

hi BBC. Thank you for giving us a wonderful program. I love this BBC News Review very much. But can you post this series on TH-cam Music? I usually listen to podcasts on TH-cam Music but I can't find News Review on it. I only see 6 Minutes English (I also like that series too). Could you post this podcast on TH-cam Music?

This topic was very difficult to understand
1:44 what does drop mean there? It sounds like Avoid or shun
Yes, 'drop' means 'don't use'. Headlines often drop words like 'a' and 'the' to save space.
BBC: my daily cup of coffee!
But this law is same with US and Australia law. How this could be Kremlin law?
Useful as we used to .

Altercations - clashes ?
Yes, that's a good synonym.
Despite the green light about the corporation between the two, they are still in a stand-off and continuously stand the alarm to each other.
"I applaud the BBC for creating such a valuable English learning channel. It's a fantastic tool for learners."
What are two interviewers' names ?
Does anyone know ?
They are called Neil and Georgie.
BBC is great
Hello from Uzbekiston❤
Since having to register and disclose "donators" sounded alarms, they green lighted the pathetic narrative of a Georgia's internal stand-off coupled with Reductio ad Putinum.
In my opinion an appropriate comparison, resorting to chess and in reference to the overreactions by those opposing the law, would be that of a move in a zugzwang position.
When it comes to learning the language, the contexts produced by the comparative examples help very much to associate and fix meanings.
❤❤
Thank you bbc
Georgia has adopted a law that exists in all developed countries, including America. These mass protests are not mass, but paid for by the Americans. They can still do things like that while their dollar printing press is working. But its time is coming to an end.
Sanctions against Georgia will merge it into Russia. Sanctions has not worked out against Russia.
Georgia is a democracy their parliament voted heavily for this foreign agents law, you just don't like it because your anti russian but you love their cheap gas square that one.stop wasting license fee payers money.
Europe already hasn't bought our gas since war started. And I'm from Russia and it's totalitarian state right now, I live abroad and I even afraid to visit my parents this summer, I'm so tired and I'm dreaming when Russia can turn into normal democracy country, developing for the sake of well-being of its citizens and doesn't attack nearest states. Now Russia is trying to get Georgia under its control and I wish people will be able to defence independent future for their country.
Very nice I like it
Deadlock-impasse-stalemate
It is funny, the USA has the same law, and it is normal, but the Georgia can not have the same law. It is very interesting.
The government decided to green light the construction of a new motorway

the same law, Foreign Agents Registration Act,has been enforced in the United States since 1938, but the BBC is not warried, this program is not about learning languages, it is rather propaganda through learnings
💖😑💗🤗💗🤗
The USA has the same law. FARA of 1938. Foreign Agents Registration Act. This is democracy in action. Stop whining.
🫤
Sounds like propaganda
This is not Russian law.
This is Georgian law like in Russia.
