My mom was from South Carolina. The only thing she added to the same recipe was some white bread. I love cornbread stuffing and it's the only one I have ever made.
In our family we mix bread and cornbread, but we like our onions and celery baked directly in the mix, so they stay a little crunchy!!! Love our homemade dressing!!!
It’s best to ALWAYS taste for seasonings BEFORE ADDING RAW EGGS. Almost all Southern Cornbread Dressing Recipes call for a little crumbled biscuits, firm rolls, white bread in a 150 oven just to lightly dry. Got to use plenty of chicken broth until wet. But,this is a recipe personal to you. Nothing taste better than tradition.
I think of this as a savory bread pudding… Also great with some torn small pieces of inexpensive French or Italian loaf bread. Adjust liquids accordingly. Can add small amount of cream for extra richness. Quality/taste of your liquid stock will dramatically affect the end result. Happy Thanksgiving ❤
I'm also fancy because, like you, I prefer the "good, expensive" cranberry sauce. It's delicious, and it's beautiful to look at with those perfect tin-can circles. Edible sculpture!
We sauté the trinity, stale cornbread, bread cubes, some of the meat and broth from the giblets, then the eggs and sage. It isn’t Thanksgiving without it. Thanks for the recipe.
I use poultry seasoning and some lightly toasted white bread pinched up. Girl that is the size pan I bake for family and friends. Our dressing pan is the big dutch oven, Looks delicious.
Oh.... yeah! Dressing over stuffed turkey any time. I don't even like turkey all that much. I would be in heaven if I could shaped the cornbread to look like a turkey.
I have already made my cornbread and biscuits, crumbled them up, and put them in the freezer for our Christmas dressing. That's my favorite dish to make and to eat!
Oh my goodness you have me dying of laughter when you said you take that very expensive stuff that comes from the can I love you you're funny and I love your style and this dressing yes you have inspired me to do one cornbread and then one sourdough stuffing cuz I'm here in San Francisco we have really good sourdough bread so yes happy holidays to you and thank you for sharing oh yeah and I receive your Allrecipes magazine so I am all in on all recipes.!
My late mil had a large family, she’d add the celery and onions but she would cook a pound or so of Hamburg, cook a few potatoes and crumble it all in the bread mixture. It was so tasty
Ok, may I please add that MY MOMMA!!!!! We from the SOUTH! Made it a LITTLE different W/(LOVE!) You have to mix this in a pot on the stove, chicken broth, crumbled corn bread, add raw onions and celery, Yes RAW, add dried sage, and pulled chicken, yes it has actual chicken pieces in the dressing, then taste it BEFORE you add the eggs........ this was my most favorite memory growing up with my mom, we got to Taste the Dressing before we cooked it in the oven, add and adjust seasonings, we LOVE SAGE up in hereaaaaa!...... Then add your eggs and stir and put in your pans to cook.............Love the smell of the house this time of year, Happy Thanksgiving.
Dressing is made with cornbread, stuffing is made with white bread. No the same at all weather it's stuffed or not that is the difference. Also stuffing is made up north & dressing is in the south
my grand mother wouldn't share her recipe don't know why. I tried hundreds of recipe trying to find one that taste like hers - ask the aunts - know one knew or had it- so I trying to find one I love and one day I will.
I would want to make this in Memory of my Grandma!!!! But I don't know how to do the Bread itself!!!! I Lost my Grandma 28yrs ago. I was a Kid and didn't know anything about cooking
Egg?? 😵💫 Gotta have real turkey drippings from the turkey to flavor that dressing up too.🤗 Don't forget poultry seasoning and a few pieces of regular bread ( toast) broken up and added to that cornbread. All in all it's a simple recipe that looks pretty much like my mom's, only without that egg. 😐 🤗Thank you!
Y is there such a fuss about stuffing & dressing??? People their both the same, one is cooked in a dish the other is stuffed in a bird, don't always have to be a turkey can be a chicken, a duck or a goose but in reality their both the same🤔🤨
Maybe people who know the difference between their and they’re prefer the distinction between the two. Stuffing doesn’t have the crust that dressing does.
@Delilah Shields Actually, they are NOT the same. Uncooked “Dressing” mixture is pretty wet. About the consistency of uncooked cornbread batter. But for “Stuffing” only use enough chicken broth to hold together. Stuffing will be moistened by the cooking broth from the cooking turkey. BUT, recommendations are to never cook “stuffing” in the turkey. Not safe. Nobody does that anymore. Return email notifications are not available at this time.
Love your southern accent and cooking talent!

Yes I agree. Cornbread dressing, gravy, jellied cranberry saue and Mac and cheese are my perfect bite.

Pour some turkey juices in the cornbread dressing mix😋
Genius! I totally prefer stuffing in the bird because it has all the juice from the turkey cooking into it.

I think it's called stuffing because if it's made right and delicious we stuff ourselves with it LOL

Being from MN, I like to add Minnesota Wild Rice to the recipe for that nutty and crunchy taste. OH, SO GOOD!
My favorite, tfs
That’s right! We always called what was cooked inside the bird stuffing, and everything else is dressing! That is a perfect plate and bite!!!😜🙏❤️
