Toriyama's early work was mostly one-shot mangas, but when Dr. Slump was an unexpected hit, it became a long-running series that turned him into a millionaire.
Dragon Ball is the direct successor to Dr. Slump, specifically made to replace Slump's slot in Weekly Shonen Jump; DB started not long after Slump ended.
It's always fun when DB pays tribute to its 'ancestor', and there's no shortage of fun crossovers between the two series. (I recommend Ep.56-59 of the '1997' Slump anime)
Dont forget that in the crossover goku ends up remembering her when he was a kid also

In a filler episode of Dragon Ball Z, Yamcha had become a professional baseball player. It's fun that they referenced that here with him being great at it.
If they hadn’t already established that they have the richest family on their side (the Briefs) then all of them could’ve just made money being professional athletes lol.
These episodes are hilarious for being filler and enjoyable.

For those of you who does not know the creator of Dragon Ball created that character long before Dragon Ball was even a thing
Toriyama's humor is honestly an "acquired taste". It can be corny as hell but you sort of get used to it and find it funny after a while. Its something that people who havent seen OG are missing. In essence, Toriyama is a gag manga artist first and a fight manga artist second.
Its the mistake that people like me take with this whole franchise. We take this series too seriously, sometimes even more than the author, lol.
