Check yr 12v ( cigarette lighter ) plug and cables don’t overheat - it’s very thin cable for all that drain - that looks like the only potential issues 👍🏼
I've got the same set up (delta max) on a factory built van and don't pull more than 8 amps on 12v . I stripped the eco flow charge cable down and its soldered lugs and about 2.5mm2
I use the EcoFlow River Pro to power my Transit Custom and it works great. So much easier and cheaper than a traditional setup. Had it installed for the past year and it’s still going great.
I still don't understand why the original system doesn't work. If it did now it doesn't. There has to be a fault with the equipment... although you've got around the problem, it's not fixed, and with that level of kit, I'd need to know why. Too many people run with the same equipment hassle free. Victron seems to be the most popular gear in the 'vanlife community' Anyway good luck with whatever you decide.
Just found this video and it’s exactly what I’m doing with my van build, although you’ve just confirmed that I can plug a solar straight into the back of my EcoFlow. Oh and I’ve got the alternator charger 800 watts while driving.
I think using the power pack for your main source of power is a genius idea, especially having the solar to keep it going. I would definitely go down that route when I start my van conversion. I really admire your videos Shaun, what a place to live. I absolutely love Cornwall
I actually works, I have been living in a smaller van and have a smaller power station, but i can run my phone, laptop, lights etc.. fine and I charge it in the office at work secretly during the day 🤫🤣
I went down the power station route.. works fantastic.. I have the bluetti 200max which has a 30amp output so that goes straight into my fuse box.. 400w solar on the roof to charge it.. I also have an inverter that I can turn on and off manually when the engine is running to charge up the power station using the original power AC brick that came with it. It all works great so far..
I've just finished hard wiring my Bluetti ac200max into my van. It's charging through the solar and as I'm driving at the same time, double free electric.👍 I've also got a delta 2, which if the bluetti gets low in winter I can use to charge the bluetti. I drive lorries for a living so I can recharge the Delta while I'm at work, so triple free electric👍 Love the videos keep up the hard work.
I wired mine up exactly the same and it works perfectly. It's great because I can take the ecoflow out and use it for other things or put in my car for day trips etc and like you say if needed take out to charge. It really simplifies everything 👍
Great vid for those looking at the choice of running a van off of a power station vs traditional electric set up. I guess you can also have back up portable things like unfoldable solar mats placed on the van dash charging a brick, and dirt cheap solar/USB lamps. A question for all. I'm guessing you would now always go with the simplicity of the power station option? Also what sort of cost difference is there between the two set ups once you include the lithium battery and individual parts of the trad set up?
Hi Shaun, Dont ditch the DC2DC charger. You could fit a yellow connector to the output of the dc2dc and insert it in to the PV2 on the back of the ecoflow (you may need to tone down the output from the dc2dc in the app for the ecoflow to handle it) but it would be much faster than using the 12v socket in the front. Also I would really like a chopping board to hang up in me van! I was too slow last time!!! Loving the videos :)
ca i recommend to simplify it 12v on set of cable and 240v on the other and and look at what marking the system drain down it be a earth or a cables but need to find it with a multimeter as then you can use you power station as a backup but dont rip it all out till you done all your check if you have get a auto engineer to come out to you and they save you money and time
I live full time in my sprinter and power the entire van off my Delta Pro! Remember if your running diesel heater these can pull some amps on initial start up! My delta pro has a 30amp Anderson outlet I believe that your cigarette lighter socket is only rated to 10-15amps!
@@LoveSundays Im running a 4kw autoterm diesel heater in my LWB Sprinter and it’s absolutely savage! Great video again. I am going to rewire my van this week and utilise my Ecoflo delta 2 as a power source. I don’t have a max air fan but I am curious to see if the Ecoflo can handle running the diesel heater as the instructions say the 12v out can only run 5 amps and I don’t know how much the diesel heater uses on warm up.
I hope that cigarette socket, plug and wire to the fuse board can handle the current and not just the volts...? As for losing faith in the Victron system, is that not because you might not have wired (earthed) properly to be an 'isolated' or 'non isolated' system?
I've been looking at doing the same my worry is the dc output is only 10amp I think that would be OK for lighting and my fridge but I'm a little concerned running lights fridge and Chinese diesel heater all at the same time, I'll spend a bit more time looking into how many amps on dc my van requires when everything is running, thanks for sharing
Where ur plug socket under the bed I would be tempted to have the eco flow mounted behind them have the display showing so you don’t have to keep climbing under the bed

Hi Shaun. I just love all your videos. I find this one very interesting about your idea with the electrics as I am no good with electrics and that looks so simple. How ever will it be good enough if you cook electric, ie hob and oven as well? Keep up the great work Gary
It all depends on the draw of your electric hob. These power stations can power a lot of stuff though. You should be fine on 1800w - 2400w. A kettle is normally the biggest draw.
@@LoveSundays Hi Shaun. Thanks for your fast reply. I will have to look at this idea because it saves space and weight in the vehicle plus simple to install. Love all the videos. Gary
it's cool you can do it but id rather just the battery you had. Why not earth it directly to your lithium battery neg terminal? I think i saw a shunt in your set up which you wont be able to use anymore?

Hi Shaun, What size, physically and wattage, is the solar panel that's powering this unit? I'm looking to do something similar but also need to carry some kayaks on the roof rack as well.
My solar panel is 305w and is pretty big. I made a video of me installing the panel so you can see the size of it. th-cam.com/video/Rru1cs7km04/w-d-xo.html

Hi... I keep thinking about van life and my issues: 6'3", 169 snowboards (i haven't skiied yet but those would be longer). So I haven't decided on a layout yet. Just curious, but where would you keep the surfboard in the new van?
Great video! Looking forward to seeing how you get on in the long run. Be interesting to see how you feel about switching to only the ecoflo in the next few weeks. I’ve been looking at getting one for my new van conversion but I’ve watched a few videos saying the fan was really loud and if the solar is putting in less than 20ah the ecoflo won’t work. So still undecided
I use a EcoFlow Delta Pro as my only power and I live in my Sprinter full time all year round! Yes the fan can be heard but it’s never really bothered me! It only really kicks in when you charge from the mains and set the EcoFlow to charge as fast as possible. I normally set mine to charge at 500w if using the mains,it’s less stress on the battery. When using solar the fan is hardly noticeable!
@@philiproberts6947 thanks for your comment. Okay that’s great. So the fan wouldn’t really be that loud if it’s under a sofa seat then. How do you cope With charging it whilst driving have you got it connected via a battery to battery charger as I’ve seen the 12v supply takes forever to charge ? I love the idea of not having to bother with all the victron set up and just use the delta max as my only source of electrics just a little hesitant if there’s any issues doing that
@@andredavies6191 I have never used my cigarette lighter to charge it,they don’t give out many watts so as you say will take forever to charge! I have 8 LED spot lights in the roof,a Maxair fan,a 4kw Autoterm diesel heater, and 3 USB charging points in my van all wired into a 12v fuse box which is powered from the 30amp Anderson connector on the power pack! Obviously if you are going run air fryers and things power will soon disappear! If I charge it at full power it will charge in around 1 hour 30 mins, the fan really gets going then to keep the battery cool! As mentioned I charge mine at 400-500 watts! From single figure percentage it takes around 8-9 hours at the charging input. I’m never in a need to charge fast and can happily be in the van while it’s charging up with only very slight noise from the fan! For comparison the night heater is like a jet engine when that going flat out! You could fit a 200-300w solar panel on your roof and wire this direct into your EcoFlow and it will charge fine as the EcoFlow has the MPPT all built into it! Not sure what EcoFlow you’re looking at but the Delta Pro is a lump to move around! Mine isn’t even fixed down,it just sits there and never moves, even while driving!
Hey! In a previous Q&A video you said that you although you loved your VW, you would choose a Transit if you were to buy again. After your engine issues do you still stand by that? I’m considering getting a van to convert and after following your amazing conversion, the Transit seems like the way forward as it looks pretty square for an amateur DIY-er like myself.
When I had my vw I still spent quite a bit of repairs. The vw gear box blew up 900 miles after I bought it luckily it was under warranty. So it really doesn’t matter which van you get you will always be taking the risk. Sometimes you get good ones sometimes they have issues
Im trying to work out if that cigarette cable will be enough to supply a 12v TV, fridge, heater and lighting? I don't know the output draw on the cigarette bit. The cable i found goes to 15Amps i think. Plan on using it for full time stuff! Also seen USB-C wires that have 12v connections on the other end maybe they'd do smaller bits? So confusing!
Depending on the power station it should tell you the watt out out for the socket. This cigarette output on the ecoflow is 10A which has a max draw of 126W. When I was running the the lights fridge and fan it went up to 105W so as long as your TV and heater don’t draw more than 20W combined then you should be fine. Or just don’t have the heater and the fan on at the same time. You can also get some units that have a 30A Dc socket. With that you wouldn’t have to worry at all
@@LoveSundays I guess why would you have the fan and heater on together anyway! Plus the fridge wouldn’t constantly be drawing much. I got a cable like yours it’s heavy duty with inline fuse too. Can’t wait for it to turn up
@@LoveSundays Heyy! I realised the cigarette port only gives out 10amps max but my heater needs 15amps. Just bought a 240-12v adaptor.
Wonder what it be like when you get the induction hob
The out put will manage it quite nicely but it’ll be interesting to see how long the charge lasts
Worst thing i done was buying an ecoflow, isn't enough 12v power to do everything. Wasted 1100 quid on this
Hi Shaun, I’m a big fan put my name down for a chopping board if you get more.
Don’t worry about the chopping board Shauny boy….. I’ll just plagiarise the design and order me own, might even get a few extra for eBay 😂😂😂 👍
😂
Goes from 240v plug to 12v cigarette female then plug the same cable you have into it then to wiring centre. Gives me 30amps and 360 watts! What’s your thoughts? How’s this test month gone
Hi Tom I was thinking about the same from the 240 socket how did it work out for you, cheers
Just out of interest, why not plug the power station into a battery charger to just keep the existing batteries charged?
I’ll take a chopping board:)
hope u got ya van sorted out Shawn 😂
Hi Shaun, what model ecoflow is that?
It’s the Delta 2 Max
When I wired my van I ran a neutral/earth cable from the vehicle battery in addition to the live v(via a VSR), no sketchy vehicle earth issues. If you decide to offload your battery and MPPT I'll happily recycle them for you 😉
Obviously it ain’t wired prop the 12v system
Few questions.. whats the cheapest, the setup you installed or the ecoflow?
The eco flow is about half the price of the other set up when you include the leisure battery
Really
Damn...plus the time it saves installing it. If it can do what the original setup does and more then its def the way to go
@@johnrea2115 yes the victron set up including all the wires was £3000 plus the £800 for the lithium whereas the the ecoflow is half that
@@LoveSundays but you have already spent that money, it looks like a good reliable proven setup widely used with a 200AH battery, the mppt has got a five year guarantee get in touch with Victron
Why didn't you do that in the first place
Can I have first dibs on your leasure battery..... need to replace my 90a fridge is killing it
You could always start a new channel called "Love Wednesdays" hmmmm guess what day it is.... hahaha No, I'm not a camel...
😂
