Hi Dale: It seems that as much as you try to pray in the Eastern Rite you are at heart a Christian of the undivided West before the Great Schism. I am sure you are aware that there are Western Rite parishes within Orthodoxy. I live a couple of hours away from the Orthodox Western Rite monastery of Our Lady and St. Laurence and I visit once a month. I may receive a blessing to live in a canvass tent away from the monastery in this beautiful canyon they own and essentially live as a hermit but going in for the Liturgy once a day…their website also contains a documentary about the monastery (the nuns in the video have since gone to glory) …not that you would be interested in becoming a monastic as part of the monastery but maybe a place to visit…they own 600 acres and they are at the end of a road and nowhere is more the edge of nowhere than they are…they have a great guest house should you ever want to visit…David
Thanks. Ladyminster in Colorado. I used to camp at a Roman Benedictine monastery, Christ in the Desert, in New Mexico. Alas, they have become a tourist destination.
@@dalecaldwell I used to camp at that campground next to the monastery as well…they have no resemblance to the time Thomas Merton visited and thought about becoming a hermit there…now it’s just guitars and Kum by ya
@Texasrangewriter Christopher has replaced Philip as Abbot, but I kinda remember Christopher playing guitar. I particularly enjoyed spending time with Xavier and Andre. For years I had a wonderful chasuble woven by Aelred, but in a fit of generosity and/or lightening my load, I gave it away. It's odd having so any good old days.
@@dalecaldwell I totally understand…in a fit of bad judgment I destroyed my chausable from my first Mass as a priest in the Episcopal Church…in seminary I actually had the opportunity to have Archbishop Ramsey and Lady Ramsey to my apartment for dinner…just a few weeks ago they held a rave concert and draped a big pride flag in the nave at Canterbury cathedral…the truth is that great tradition is now gone
Having grown up in the Bible Belt, I am aware of a lot of varieties of ebangelical churches, of which there are far more every week. Indeed when I was a Methodist pastor, serving in five different churches over the years, there were basiclly three different theologies practiced in those five churches. But to speak a bit broadly, I find that for the ost part the conservative evangelicl churches tend to have a get-out-of-hell-free card understanding of salvation, with no to little expectation of or discipline for, at least explicitly, theosis. I don't want to denigrate what the Holy Spirit works in someone who is at least a faithful reader of scripture over the years. It also seems that there is seldom a robust Trinitarian theology in such denominations. And there is also a tendency to understand the Word of God as the Bible rather than God the Son. As a kid growing up, we had sword drills based on Hebrews 4:12 with no understanding of the subject of that verse, made clear in the 'he' in verse 13. Unfortunately for many in the Old Catholic/Independent Catholic movement, whatever we might call it, there is as much fragmentation as there is in protestantism. The evil one knows how to grab us by our egos.
Remember ME in your prayers, Dale. My rod is a violin, but God didn't put me on earth to be the world's greatest rod player. I'm called to be a soldier in the army of the Lord. Remember the Philippines in your prayers. The demons are powerful here, but so is God.

Many conservative evangelical churches have very strong faith in Christ, so apart from liturgical differences; you’re definitely not alone, brother!
