On google maps, it says there are two Our Lady of Walsingham shrines in Walsingham. One basilica and one shrine. The basilica is Catholic and the shrine is Church of England. Not sure which one is older.

15 October is the Memorial of St Teresa of Avila. According to Divine Worship: Daily Office, The Feast of Our Lady of Walsingham is on 24 September. In the Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham, 24 September is observed as a Solemnity. As I understand it, the observances, in descending order of importance are Solemnity, Feast and Memorial.

Dale, I have just found your channel and am loving it. Question; did I heard you say that the means of grace are open and available to all who come, whether they have gone through a “required” entrance ritual? I am an ordained pastor from an independent Protestant church, and about to retire. While my group doesn’t believe in sacraments or means of grace, I have a growing theology and love for those means of grace and the mystery of the sacraments. To receive of the grace of Jesus as the “sinners” did with Jesus at the table when he walked the earth? And would I, without ordination in the “apostolic succession” be able to offer Eucharist, and the other sacramental means of grace that would contain the reality of the mysteries and presence of Jesus and the Spirit of those means of grace. This is in no way an argumentative question but one of hope in my future ministry. Hope you can understand where I am coming from. Thank you so much for your videos.

For those of us who are not as familiar with the pre-Vatican II Roman Breviary, the post-Vatican II LOTH, Christian Prayer, Shorter Christian Prayer, and the like, this COULD have been interesting and informative, but, unfortunately, you were just flipping through pages randomly and rambling. When I approached a Catholic priest with the intent to convert it took me trying at 2 different parishes to get any progress on actually getting the ball rolling. Human failure can be disappointing but I'd encourage you to pursue this. The Church is a divine institution made up of human individuals who might have problems. But that doesn't mean she is not the Ark. Thank you for telling your story. I was able to make progress and being a former Anglican I am joining the Ordinariate even though a location is not nearby.

The formula that works for me is Orthodox in faith, with affection for the Greek & Russian uses, but Anglican with Old Catholic lines in style. When I look at this it’s rather wild, but it’s where I should be.

You could also use the Breviary of the Ordinariate. Also a Roman Catholic text and obviously gorgeous.

Hi Dale, There is another version of the breviary that is fully Catholic which I think you might enjoy. It is called Divine Worship: Daily Office and it is a version of the breviary which is used by the Anglican Ordinariate (Anglicans who have come into full communion with Rome and keep their liturgical patrimony). They have their own liturgy which has a lot of elements from their Anglican traditions. Part of this liturgy is their breviary which is very beautiful. It greatly resembles the 1662 BCP and I think you would enjoy it if you enjoy the Anglican Office Book and St. Bernard's Breviary. It does not cut out verses from the psalms, it does not have banal language (it actually has very beautiful language), it uses the beautiful Coverdale Psalter and it is very spiritually edifying overall. It is also printed beautifully and has very nice art and it comes in one volume. It costs 60 pounds which is around 78 dollars. I recently got my hands on a 1956 Dutch missal (Gebed zonder end, for interested Dutch speaking people reading this). There are graphics in there with an eerily similar art style. Despite the art, I really like the translation of the verses that are present in the missal. It’s sad to see that the Bible translation used for the missal is no longer available in print. For daily use I still haven’t found anything that can beat the Anglican Office Book, even though it isn’t in my native tongue. Thanks for the video. Wishing you a blessed week. God bless, Dale.

A new to me book is “My Rosary Companion, Praying the Rosary with the Christian East” by Kenneth Chrusch, published in 2021 by Eastern Christian Publications. It has Byzantine beginning prayers as well as the Western ones. Each bead of the mystery has excerpts from the ancient liturgical heritage of the Byzantine Church, for over 200 excerpts. Each mystery also has an icon. An excerpt example: The Annunciation, 5th bead. “Hail Mary… …O all pure-Virgin, I acknowledge you as a brightly burning lamp and as a bridal chamber made by God. Receive now, as a golden ark, the Giver of the Law Who has been pleased to deliver our corrupted nature through you.”

I love having all the music selections in Christian Prayer. I’ve learned I prefer to pray in modern English and this gets it done. Perhaps because Christian Prayer was my first breviary, it is comforting to me to return to regularly.

Wow you were a Methodist pastor. Did you tell here about your conversion? Is it officially into the rcc?

I had never seen the contents of Daily Prayer before, so it is a pleasant surprise that you posted a video about this volume. Alas, the reason I haven't purchased the Saint Bernard Breviary is that in late Spring I purchased the 4 Volume Divine Office. If I knew then what I know now, I would have purchased the three volume Collins Divine Office instead. No 1970s artwork in the Collins. The translations used are a little bit better than in the 4 Volume set. Even the Collins one volume versions are better. All I use the 4 Volume Set for is the Office of Readings. Even then, I could have just used what is in Benedictine Daily Prayer, A Short Breviary. I read the Sermons and Legends in the Anglican Breviary every day, but I like to read sermons in the Morning and in the Evening, so that is why I have other breviaries. Alas, I have buyer's remorse! I wish I had not purchased the 4 Volume Divine Office. It set me back for the whole year as far as buying books. I haven't used it very much. I liked it in the 1990s, but I was won over by the Anglican Breviary and the Anglican Office Book. I don't want to sell the 4 Volume Set at the local Half-Life Books store because they will probably give me only $20 for it, then sell it for $100 or $120. Live and learn, as they say.

I agree with CBP producing hideous art that is at the same time charming. The LotH suffers from an overall pedestrian translation but I find very easy to use. I own only the 4 volume set but I like the fact they offer one volume options of Christian Prayer, Shorter Christian Prayer, Daytime Prayer, and Night Prayer.

You should let us know what your opinion is on the newer "Anglican Rosary". I particularly like the idea of bringing more Orthodox prayers and ideals into the rosary.

I prefer a one week psalter. Four week is too thin. Plus they removed the cursing psalms, and edited several more.

As an Orthodox Catholic who has always felt sort of drawn to the rosary, but is firmly rooted in the Byzantine Rite, I was very pleased to learn that something like this exists. I wish this rule was promoted more in Orthodox circles.

If you can find an Anglican parish that uses the 2019 BCP you can get a decent funeral out of it. The 2019 BCP requiem liturgy is fairly good, in my opinion. Bishop Jack Iker's requiem mass was streamed yesterday on the TH-cam channel of St. Vincent's Cathedral in Fort Worth. I found it an edifying requiem, even if Bishop Reed is a slightly rushed celebrant. The 2019 liturgy even includes the full Kontakion for the Dead, although it was spoken in yesterday's livesteam rather than sung as it was in St. George's Chapel for Prince Phillip and Queen Elizabeth II.

Back in the 1990s, when I had returned from Pentecostal Holiness to the Roman Catholic Church, I had a great experience when I spoke to the Priest of my childhood parish, Saint Ambrose. He even dragged out a chart showing me all the Protestant Churches and the Orthodox Church, telling me why I should be Roman Catholic. He did add that he really liked the Orthodox as well. I ended up joining the parish. That was 1995. I always had a wonderful time at Saint Ambrose until the Archdiocese bamboozled this priest and "moved" the parish to a suburb east of the city. This, of course, upset most of the Italian families, as half the parish was still Italian from the neighborhood of Italian immigrants that attended Saint Ambrose and it predecessor The Christ Child from the early 1900s. They blamed the priest, although he didn't realize the Archdiocese was going to build a new style Theatre in the Round building with no statues. At the time, I would visit the Trad Mass Insult, the Orchestral Mass Parish Saint Agnes that had a New Mass celebrated in Latin every Sunday and Holy Day that looked like a Trad mass it was celebrated so properly. I would also visit the Byzantine Ruthenian Catholic Church and the Ukrainian Catholic Church. I had good experiences at those parishes. However, many of the New Mass parishes I visited left me shivering they seemed so cold. About 10 years ago, I starter visiting Catholic parishes with a friend that thought I might return if I attended the new FSSP parish which did all of the sacraments using the Trad Roman Rite. The main priest was one of the best I ever met. He even sat on a chair in the Narthex in between Masses and would smile and talk to people and answer questions. His sermons were excellent and articulated well. He would go on the be a high ranking leader in the FSSP.. I think he had been in the SSPX previously. I really think the problem is that some parishes are run like a business, while others have priests who are excited about what they are doing. I will never forget my parish priest at my childhood parish, or the monsignor at Saint Agnes. Both are gone to heaven now. The FSSP priest made me excited about Roman Catholicism, even though I can't believe some of the Cardinal dogmas. I still love The Church. My suggestion to someone wanting to join the Roman Catholic Church is to shop around for a good parish. Here in Minneapolis-Saint Paul, the second largest denomination is the Roman Catholic Church. Only the Lutherans have more members. I suspect that where you are, there might be only a few Catholic parishes. That might make it tough to find a parish with life. Lastly, because of the different rites in the Roman Church, if I believed the dogmas, that is where I would go. You can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant 😁 . Seriously, the Pope pretty much leaves the other rites alone. Many Byzantine Ruthenian Catholics use the Orthodox Study Bible and read Orthodox books. Some Roman Catholics do what I did and have their main parish but attend other Catholic Rites as well. I remember sometimes attending two masses on Sunday- one at my parish and the other at the Byzantine Ruthenian Parish. I might have breakfast in between masses, or wait until lunch. It was wonderful. Its wonderful now as well, just different.

My Greek Orthodox friend in Spain loves the rosary & teaches it to friends worldwide. She tells me I should say the rosary in addition to the Jesus prayer. Your insights reinforce her & Ill forward this to her. Gracias!

I sympathize with your struggle. In my search for a church to become part of, I have found Orthodoxy to be very cliquish and full of toxic people and Catholicism to be very institutional, monotonous, and kafkaesque. I actually found your channel through the website of the ACNA church you're friends with. I've been looking at them online for a while now and I've been wanting to check them out. Anglicanism has a lot of principles that I agree with. I think the usage of modern instruments during the liturgy has turned me off from the ACNA a bit, but maybe that's not the most important thing. I want to meet some decent Christians who aren't plagued by sacramental rigorism.

Dear Dale, I've enjoyed watching your lovely videos since I stumbled across your channel back during Covid. Since then my family and I were received into the Orthodox Church. I remain convinced that it is the true Catholic Church since THE Catholic Church is found where the Catholic/Orthodox Faith is found preserved within the bond of peace. I don't deny the Lord's grace in my Christian walk prior to my conversion, but I can say in hindsight that it was Grace to bring me to the knowledge of the Truth and into the fullness of Unity with tte true Church, the Theanthropic Body of Christ. I've never felt anything but free to retain all that was good and Orthodox from my Western upbringing (in fact, I just ordered a copy of the Anglican Office Book to pray - without the Filioque of couurse 😂). I pray you find the peace of the Lord who loves you and won't abandon you if you seek him earnestly and with humility. May our merciful Lord bless you and bring you into full Communion with His One Church. ☦️

I became an Orthodox Christian a few years ago. I understand your thinking on Orthodoxy, seems like there is a strong “orthobro” current. I hope to see that moderate a bit but perhaps it is being used for good, my first mission church had a big problem with the evolution of receiving converts by baptism only… basically in our jurisdiction (OCA, Orthodox Church of America) the bishops have a policy that largely excludes receiving other Christians via baptism but the “recent inconvenience” caused many priests to start doubting the bishops and their “modern” tendencies. We ended up leaving our beloved mission for another Orthodox Church, even if you settle somewhere like Rome or the Orthodox Church it is somewhat important, for me at least to remember that my job is not to be comfortable in a church (even though I like that) but that the Church is just as likely to crucify and reject you as the world. Wherever you end up I hope you never get too comfortable, I find your honesty to be the most compelling thing about you as an outsider looking in. I want to be less institutional and more honest, your content is a good reminder to remain as genuine and truth seeking as possible.

Strange old business choosing the church based on its ceremony practices for funerals ,,, as good as any way of choosing something a friend of mine who ran a gallery paid some money to one of the local university colleges so that she could use their facilities when she passed away about 300 people turned up so I suppose the space was useful,, maybe 10 were at her grave when she was buried, maybe Walt Disneyland should to have a funeral service it would be very spectacular ,, I wonder if it would draw many people .....

This is gorgeous. If only I had the money for a typewriter and a desk that isnt Ikea quality to set it on. For now I will be content with my new oldschool mechanical keyboard. But one day it'd be really nice to write away from the screen without always needing a pencil and paper (for the sake of visual clarity and uniformity in long documents that a typewriter would provide conveniently opposed to handwriting)

As an atheist youve made me more grateful that my family is mostly Catholic. Even though I believe I wont have any method to witness it, I too dont want to be buried in colored glass that covers my chakras. I also hope that at my wake, if I'm given one, there is a coffee pot and cookies, not a fridge full of kombucha tea and organic vegan psychedelics.

Liturgy has its appeals to me, but yet when I look into the "higher church" there just seems to be all these things people create to put barriers between them and God. Now God is a consuming fire, sure, but through Christ we can boldy approach by His blood. And yet, we want to shut the door in everyones' faces if they havent jumped through the particular hoops. I wonder how Jesus feels about all this?

hi dale, my story is similar I went through RCIA it took 8 months or so and after I was baptized and confirmed i went to private confession and mass when i could. i began to experience what some would call Catholic guilt because it wasnt often that i was able to receive the Eucharist . After dealing with this for awhile I happened to attend an Anglican -catholic episcopal church in my area out of curiosity. I was unaware of a general\liturgical confession but i participated and felt totally forgiven. (I was never convinced that Anglicans did not have valid orders). long story short i was received into the Episcopal church and I have tried to contact Roman Catholic churches in my area to see if i would be welcome to attend private confession because i felt it a good practice. I was given the same response you were I thought they make take the opportunity to bring me back into the 'true church'. it never happened.

dale if you love that st mellangells prayer book, look into the western orthodox communion. the french orthodox church, the church of the guals, the celtic orthodox church.

In the Catholic Church you will have a clear path to salvation , orthodox is chasing your tale as the old saying goes.

Dale, I'm roman catholic and sometimes it's hard for me to keep going to church. In what some call the novus ordo church there is a serious lack of priestly vocations, the new priests coming in don't get the greatest formation and they are now running churches like businesses, the priests are more like administrators. The bishops treat the priests like administrators and the churches suffer for the lack of vocations. Alot of the time going to mass just seems ho hum nothing to see here. It's all very depressing. American bishops are pushing v the eucharistic revival but i don't see it doing much. Many Catholics don't even know what the mass is and many masses are banal. I've heard people have hour long conversations throughout the mass. I'm sorry for the mediocrity you experienced and i hope one day it will get better.
