    I've owned this bike since May this year.. one of the first to take the plunge with the new Tmax in the UK. I can vouch for Cager's review. I discovered all those things he likes in the exact order he discovered them. Yes, first downer was the tippy toe thing, not reaching the ground with feet flat.. but after that, all is fantastic. 1st, the ease. The feeling that you've ridden it in a previous life. 2nd is the shove from 30mph to 60mph.. Nothing in the same engine catagory that has CVT transmission can match. 3rd, the cornering and general feeling of stability, especially in the shitty wind and rain, which Cager doesn't suffer from where he lives. Then 4th, the suspension on bad road surfaces, you know the pot holes you hate to forget, but I have forgotten some and not paid the price on this bike. He didn't mention hardly any of the bells and whistles my DX version has, and neither will I.. just buy one to find out..!

    Comment for Cager: This is the second bike you've sold me! the first was the Xmax 250, which was good in town, but not enough for me while touring. Then I watched this TMAX review, tested one, and bought it. Your review was totally On Target and fully correct. This bike does everything well, except sand tracks. Thank you for providing thorough and accurate fully body reviews! I drove the Tmax for several months last season and loved it. Now I can't wait for Spring! I just need to find some well fitted Panniers for it.

    No matter what bike !
    I have always watched your "english version" videos.
    Not only do you give a grass roots review but importantly , you are the type of rider i want to be.
    Courteous , safe , and fun.
    I have a "new" old tmax and i am happy with restoring it to former glory.i live in the UK and as you know it has its challenges .
    I recently changed the rear tyre to a Heidenau K66 and cannot begin to praise its quality .
    Have you any experiences with the brand.
    Ride Safe and keep filming.

    Thanks Cager! Very nice review! I got one and agree with you totally! It's the best handling scooter on the market. I do miss hugging the tank with my knees at times (like on tight switchbacks on high mountain roads) but otherwise this bike is a blast! Suspension....they balanced it almost perfectly! It does handle like a "proper bike" and it delivers the giggles each time I'm flying down the road. Some of the guys on cruisers are stunned when they catch up with me and see that it's a scooter.

    hey cager! have been following you since your NC days, and I was on an NC700x dct myself. just got the tmax sx 2017 on the 1st of June. I love this scooter. it has so much power (on the sx and DX you have sports mode which blows you away with instant crazy acceleration) and the build quality is amazing. rides like a motorbike and handles even better than my NC.

    • @jerrycabarloc3728
      @jerrycabarloc3728 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Leonard Khoo What does the nc700 do better than the the tmax?

    • @nudgedoink55
      @nudgedoink55 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jerry Cabarloc fuel consumption definitely. I get 26km/l at worst on the nc700x no matter how I ride. On the tmax I get around 20km/l. Also, ground clearance for the NC is more, so it is kinda more offroad worthy. Maintenance for the nc700x is dirt cheap as well, for the tmax, you gotta accept that this is not a cheap scooter to maintain. I would say that the nc700x is the Toyota Corolla. It does everything and is cheap and reliable. The tmax is more like a Camry. Big and luxurious and expensive.

    yes as you said it is soft springs with stiff dampers, this is correct engineering both comfortable and good handling. sometimes to save money you get hard springs with soft dampers so when pushed a bit too hard the vehicle turns and bites with no warning, like a friends first year miata that scared the hell out of me good review reader out

    I have had various bikes over the years including a Suzuki Hayabusa so when I test rode the Tmax DX I immediately ordered one, it really is that much fun and quick. All those riders who take the piss should shut up and test ride one then they will have the right to have an opinion. It is NOT a scooter by design, it has a proper swinging arm, engine at the front and proper tyres and brakes. just looks like one. Test ride one, you wont regret it.

    Dear Pedro, you've asked, and the answer to your question is provided in the review, but I will add a few ideas to help Cager explain....the reason to purchase the TMAX is the technology built into it, which provides a combination of performance, comfort and surprising ease of use either while touring or commuting thru cities. The MT series may be cheaper and more powerful, but offers much less weather protection for those of us not needing the "Sport Bike" styling, set up, or that level of power. For some of us, having the technology, comfort, and power of the TMax is preferred. Once you are over 50 you may feel the same.

    Hello Cager, I'm selling my 2012 GS becuase I find it a bit too big for the city. I'm 51 and need something automatic. I'm constantly going back and forth between a 2017 T-Max DX, and 2017 X-ADV. Since you tested both, which one would you recommend, if I told you I was going to use it 70% city, and 30% inter-city. Thanks a lot. Everyone can also reply.

  • @brandywell44
    @brandywell44 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Cager, the T Max, like the Honda Silver Wing, is a motorcycle. It uses some scooter design features, but it has a frame mounted engine and not a rear suspension assembly mounted engine like the XMax, which is a scooter. The T Max aswell as being expensive to buy can be very expensive to service too, so please take that into account.

    This seems like a good place to ask... I have just bought a 2017 Tmax 530 DX brand new. Don't congratulate me. I'm very disappointed. Between about 3,750 - 4,750 RPM it sounds like a broken washing machine. It seems to be the way they are made. I thought the test-ride model had been modified, but now it seems not. I cannot keep the bike if I cannot make it quiet. Who buys a scooter for relaxed cruising and then listens to an incessant drone noise at cruising RPM? QUIET exhaust recommendations, PLEASE!

    I test-rode it yesterday.
    I have one BIG question.... and some comments.
    ++QUESTION**
    To me, all scooters have a fairly similar engine/CVT sound, but some are a little louder than others. I was very surprised (as was my wife riding pillion) by the engine noise. It's a scooter sound plus a little rattle and buzz, almost as though some component needs tightening. It increases with engine speed, not road speed. It was the dealer manager's personal bike, and he said he had not made modifications. I noticed similar sounds in this video, but your helmet mic does not pick them up as well as ears do (if you get what I mean). I don't know whether it will be a deal killer or not, especially as my use for a big scooter will be long distance days out, not commuting. Who else has noticed this?
    ++COMMENTS++
    As mentioned, my test ride was with a pillion, and we are about 140 kilos together.
    My usual two-up bike is a Suzuki V-Strom 650.
    Plus points:
    Comfort up to 80KPH/50MPH (low speed limits in Japan, no motorway access on the test-ride)
    Very good, vibration-free, pulling away from zero (unusual for CVT)
    The bike almost balances itself despite being a tall bike (I am only 5 feet 6 inches) - this is true at all speeds and when stopped.
    Very, very easy indeed to turn in a small circle at very low speed.
    Suspension feels equal to my V-Strom on country roads (back roads).
    Feels very sure footed and is easy to turn/position.
    Negative points:
    Engine noise (a lot of it at all RPMs expect at idle which is very quiet)
    Very little power in either Touring Mode or Sports Mode. In fact it seemed to me that upto about 60 KPH/40MPH my PCX150 would match acceleration with normal throttle.
    Now:
    A generous deal on offer from the dealer but...
    I need to ride another 530 DX to make sure the dealer had not modified his bike with some sort of hidden speed limiter to be used when customers test ride on his personal bike.

    I always loathed the look of these mega scooters (or whatever people call them), I think they look dorky and plasticky as hell, but hey, to each his own. But 11.5k for a scooter... that's just insane. Who, having the money for a Street Triple 765 or a Monster 821, goes for one of these things? Do these buyers realize they could have something like an MT-07 + 3 years of gas for the price of a TMax? I'm not just having a go, I'd really like to understand the thought process behind the decision of buying one of these things...

      I love the look of the new tmax. Scooters are just easier in general than a motorcycle, CVT is easy round town, no chain, more wind protection, integrated storage for shopping, you don't have to bother getting all geared up to ride it (I know you should) but I wish it wasn't so pricey.

      Tim Scott If a CVT, no chain, wind protection and storage space are priorities why not go for something that looks unnapologetically like a scooter - a Vespa GTS, for instance - that's almost as fast as this but costs half as much?

      pedro nogueira yeah why not, I suppose its just bigger and more powerful if that's what you want. if money was no object I would probably have a tmax though. I used to have a honda sh300 I loved x

      Well Pedro, the very people who buy these and other large expensive scoots buy them because it is what *they want*. Not because you or anyone thinks what you pefer is better. I admit, the cost of these is insane! But when bought just a couple of years old, they are mega bargains.
      Next to a full blown Honda Goldwing, the Suzuki Burgman 650 Executive is a awesome long distance touring bike. But at 611 lbs. wet wait, it is NOOOO small scooter! What I am sayin in the end Pedro is this: If yo uhave to ask WHY, you will never get a satisfactory answer. You either LOVE large touring scooters, or you don't. I dislike any super sport bike. Yet I have friends that love them! I don't pick / hate on them for their choice of what they choose to ride. If it makes them happy, GREAT!!! :-) Stay safe out there dude! :-)

      pedro nogueira I use a "mega" scooter myself. It is a 2015 Honda Silwerwing T600. I bought this because of the storage space. I have family and I must do shopping and stuff and with the top box the total storage is 95l. Two big shopping bags fit easily+my wife's helmet is always in along with the first aid set and an umbrella. It is also powerful enough (52 hp) to take me out of town if my family is at our weekendhouse. That is just less than 200 km. I mostly use my scooter in the city of Budapest, splitting lanes constantly I am always in the first row at the red light. The SW is very narrow so that is easy to perform too. So all in all I can get to any part of town at any time of the day in the same maximum runtime and can also get the f out of town, hit the autostrada and do 130 km/h, with a big load under my butt and behind me. There is great wind protection, touring windscreen. So the purpose is what matters. My purpose is to be able to be proactive and flexible.

      Well what can we do with them??????? The police are not allowed to chase them anymore in case they crash or hurt themselves.
      And we are not allowed to take the law in to our hands?
