Just had exactly the same issue with my 2020 Ioniq, however managed to fix it myself, if you lift the boot floor cover and then remove the plastic storage tray nearest the boot latch, underneath you will find a small T-Handle that is the emergency release for the charge port(not to be confused with the one to the left of the boot which is the emergency release for the Charge/Fuel flap), Pull this several times to free up the lock release ( and then lube it) . Did this and as soon as I plugged the charger back in ...success. Takes 2 mins once you know the above.
That's interesting to know and we'll worth trying if it happens again. Although I've now switched to a Kona it is more than posible they use the same actuators. Where abouts did you apply the lubricant to? The release cable??
Super helpful tip - thanks a lot 👍Hadn’t realised there was a second release cable; couple of tugs and solenoid kicked in & charging started. How / where did you apply lubricant?
Hi I had same problem and a quick fix is to pull the plug release cable situated in the boot which worked for me, but not sure it will be a permanent fix
Exact same problem hit my 7 month old Ioniq Elite EV this weekend. (Australia). Dealer says we have to wait 3+ weeks minimum for replacement 'actuator'.
Good to know. I heard the clicking recently, and my car isn't charging, even though it shows me a time until full charge and the blue indicator light is flashing. It doesn't add any percentage though if charging overnight and a public fast charger refused to connect
I don't think ioniq supports over the air updates so it'll need a visit to the dealer. Probably worth mentioning the software update when it's time for your service. The car was in for 4 days but the weekend slowed it down. They may be able to do the software update while you wait.
Interestingly I have a problem with the cable not locking in on my 38Kwh Ioniq but it charges perfectly on both AC an DC chargers. It all started after I had to use the cable release system because the pin was stuck in the engaged position and I could not plug the cable in. Its going back to the dealer in a weeks time . Has anyone else had anything else like this happen?
That's a new one on me. I'm slightly surprised it charges when you can pull the plug out at any time. It kind of goes against what the dealer told me about the actuator fault at the time. That it wouldn't charge because it could tell the charge port wasn't locked. But hay I'm pleased you are still able to charge! do come back and let us know what they do in the end to fix it
@@MikeHarEV Yes it’s very strange. I’m not to surprised about it charging on AC as it never did lock the cable until the car was locked and if it was charging and unlocked the car it would continue until the cable is unplugged. Also some Hyundai/ Kia E.Vs have the option of not locking the cable. D.C is a totally different mater. I haven’t tried tried unplugging it when charging for obvious reasons😀. So it may still be locking correctly. Alternatively it could be a software glitch that causes the car to think it’s locked . I’ll let you know the results of the investigation.

Hi! Have you found the issue? I can't get any charger to lock on my 2020 ioniq 38 but it still charges perfectly.
100% the actuator is faulty on the 2016-2022 Ioniqs. Dealt with under warranty for my 28kWh Ioniq (here UK), but so many Ioniq owners had this fault that it should have triggered an unlimited recall by Hyundai, i.e. even beyond warranty.
Sorry to hear that, I think some 28's are nearly 5 years old. Hope your still safe on your warranty. We now have reported cases in 28 and 38 as well as both versions of the phev. It must be a really basic and common part. I wouldn't be surprised if it's used across most cars with a plug in both hyundai and Kia.
@@MikeHarEV Yeah I took it too the dealer today and they told me they don't think it is the actuator and are seeking advice from Sth Korea, but I am 99% sure it is.
But mine 28 battery.. when plugged in the middle blue lamp is blinking… the red icon is lit up while connected. But somehow the connection in the car doesn’t lock…

I just want to say THANK YOU!
This tip saved me a lot of worry and frustration today 👍🙂
I just had the same issue and this advise helped. Thanks. Its looks like actuator are OK but was stuck

Thank you so much!!! You really saved my weekend. Pulled the manual release handle once, heard a click and now all is fine.
Your charging plug is not locked you can pull the charger plug emergencies wire release in the boot and this can cure the problem
Thank you so much for this comment... this fixed my problem 🤝

2017 ioniq ev, 500€ out of warranty here in Finland. A though pill to swallow but what can you do.
😬 that is really unfortunate. I'm assuming you must only have been outside of the 5 year warranty? Thanks for sharing the cost, it's worth knowing.
@@MikeHarEV Yup, just wanted to share my info for reference👍
Was there a check ev system light ?
@@anthonydavis1320 no, no error message at all.

It sounds slightly different but I hope you get this sorted as easily. Let us know how you get on with the repair.
Having same problem with navigation voice command. Is it possible to do the user interface update at home? How long was your vehicle at the garage?

@ Hi there. The fault was with the locking unit which was replaced under warranty.
Got the 2021 71 plate delivered today. Tried charging and have the exact same issue. Sadly have to send it back ASAP 😂
Man that sucks, not a good start. I hope they sort it quick for you.

My 2019 started doing the exact same thing yesterday. It's currently with Hyundai, nobody can look at it till after the weekend though.
Confirmed yesterday as inlet port actuator. Replaced this morning and back in business, looks to be becoming a regular issue on the 38kwh.
I have the same problem on my 28 Ioniq faulty actuator.

Same problem on ioniq phev..
Fortunately for me, there is always gasoline
I found out an old work colleague with the phev had this issue too. This is looking like quite a common fault!
