There's one that I think is critical to add: - Do main architecture and organization before hand (ex. figure out how things will fit together and identify these interfaces, and define them extremely well) (I have found that most failures of things not working, is not the part itself, but interfaces connecting parts made by different people). - Figure out the 'key parameters' and do the calculations/budgeting (ex. figure out what weight to aim for, how much each sub component can weigh to achieve the total weight goal etc). This helps tremendously in later design stages, and to figure out where you can spend more time/money to get gains. - Identify key critical issues early on - Always, ALWAYS have a backup plan for everything
