I want a helm, but almost impossible to get one, always out of stock. Even when notified, I got home and they were already gone. And I'm not paying inflated Ebay prices for a Seiko movement watch. I think Helm needs to bump up their manufacturing on their watches and hire some more people.
Well after watching your reviews for Zelos I purchased a Hammerhead and a Swordfish and could not be more pleased. I have also enjoyed all your reviews for Helm but always struggled to get one! I contacted Helm asking due to current world events will the Komodo release still go ahead and to my surprise they got back to me saying they had one in stock! So I just 'dived' in and purchased it plus a bit cheeky asked if i could have the SS1 strap instead of the SS3 and they agreed. Just arrived in the post and can honestly say I could not be happier. Thank you for bringing this brand to my attention. Keep up the brilliant reviews, Andy.
2023 was Helm year for me. A Vanuatu in August after a 2 year wait and the white Komodo 3 months later. I only wear it on the bracelet so no problems there and thankfully they have ditched the massive clasp. I didn't think I was going to get on with the dimensions but I absolutely love it. It's remained at the top of my collection for a few weeks now and runs at plus 1 second a day. Such a great watch.

I managed to pick up a black dial Komodo with white date window (BGW9 lume) today! It was very difficult to pick between this and the white dial version. I gather most people's favorite is the white dial. It is very beautiful. I went with the black dial because I prefer the BGW9 lume. Also the chapter ring is lumed on the black dial. Helm dropped 200 units and they were sold out within 10 minutes! I feel very lucky. Thank you for introducing me to Helm watches!
I took my Komodo off of that bracelet and put it on a matching ice blue leather strap and it is now perfection. Over a month on wrist and it's accurate plus 2 seconds.
Jody I've been looking at divers and I remembered how enthusiastic you were about the Helm models. I agree with your comments about the Komodo, plus I would prefer a slightly wider dia. case for a diver. So I'll try for one of the other models but the comments about availability make me think it's very difficult to pick one up. Helm talks about going to full production in early 2021 but if their runs are only 200 watches and they're selling to the world....well, it's difficult. Thank you as always for your vids and your candid appraisals. It helps buyers and prob also helps the watch makers.
That's a good looking dive watch. I'm loving the symmetry of the date at 6 (It's so obvious, the symmetry!). Colors are awesome; the icy blue lum on the white dial looks great. I would love to have one in my collection. It's a fun, spunky dive watch, something different in a sea of serious Rolex Submarine impressionists.

PSA: The Helm Komodo is available for pre-order on their site right now. They replaced their FC2 clasp with the smaller FC1 clasp (the one Jody used to replace his large clasp). Also new orange color!
That polar dial is, excuse the pun, super cool! Love the combo of blue lume on a stark white dial. The watch might benefit from a silicone strap similar to a Crafter Blue with fitted/molded/curved ends. The placement of the lugs does look odd, but I honestly wouldn't mind since I'd propably keep it on the lovely bracelet.
I stayed up till one o clock this morning to order mine, black with blue lume, and I'm glad I did as when I got up at nine they had all gone. Another £250 lighter because of your channel and when DHL get here they will no doubt sting me for import duty lol. I, of course, don't hold any of this against you. Interesting watches are hard to find and I thank you for your diligence. I will hold off buying any more for a while as 10 so far this year is probably too much, at least the Mrs thinks so. Keep up the good work Sir.
You are spot on again with this review, Jody. It's a beautiful watch and well built with all of the diver feature that we crave. However the dimensions are still off and that stainless bracelet and clasp is a failing of a pretty high magnitude. One nice thing that I have learned from you regarding these micro bands is their ability to adjust more quickly to the demands of the market. Hopefully the boys at Helm will redo this model or create another soon that meets the more desired specs. Cheers
Oh well... here we go again. Got a mail from Helm a few days ago about their website crashing due to them getting a new batch of Komodos. Shortly thereafter, I get another mail stating that the site was back. Checked the page, saw there were Komodos marked as "available", but didn't order straight away (was the middle of the night in Europe). Checked again the next day and all variants were sold out. I guess I might as well give up all hope of ever getting my hands on this watch... :D
Never heard of Helm until this video. This watch looks really cool and the design is great. It’s a shame it’s sold out. Will keep an eye out for this one.
I put the UTC time in my calendar then I just sat on the page refreshing until the "sold out" popped off then I quickly made an order. By the time I was done, they were all sold out.
I got the black with the blue lume, we will see on the clasp. Sold my last one too big for 2x what I paid. So there are so many fans, really wanted a white dial, but sold out.

Totally agree with the fact that it really looks awkward when on a strap. Too much height. I was about to do the pre-order and found this video that confirms my suspicions. They have replaced the extension clasp with a more ergonomic clasp.
Another great review which once again gets down to the nitty-gritty detail which separates very good watches from the brilliant. I agree about the clasp and lug hole problems, and I also think the top-heavy look of this smaller watch could be solved by putting a less bulbous case back on it, perhaps made out of titanium for strength, to save 2-3mm off the height so it sits better on the wrist. Here's hoping Helm listen to your constructive comments and they make newer versions of this good tool dive watch truly brilliant.

Helm also has the option to fit a vanuatu style bracelet which is far better than the usual one. its awesome with the orange dial. the low lug hole problem can be sorted by helm if fitting a strap by having the end links built into the strap such as the Tudor pelagos does.
Can I be the first to say, that I just missed out on the latest batch. I really want to get one for my old man. He’s a big old unit of a man, but hates anything over 40mm. He’d love this!

Thanks to you I was able to snag one before they sold out! Thank you!! I have an idea for a possible fix with the rubber strap. Because of another of your videos, I went to the Crafter Blue website and noticed that the rubber strap for the seiko sumo is designed for a 20 mm lug. I think their design that extends past the lug bar to hug the case would fix the problem you pointed out.
More of these will be available in a month or two. The ore-order went in a couple of days,as is always the case, but I was able to get the bold orange for me and the classic black for my nephew. One note, they are more than happy to change to the jubilee style band at no cost, so make sure you ask when you order.
Got mine in Wednesday and agree on all points of your assessment, Jody. That clasp is a big eyesore. Also I have an issue with the screwed in pins... They tend to come out on mine. Yes, one popped out after a day of wearing it this morning and dropped my watch on the floor! It happened while at work, but I luckily had a small screwdriver to put it in again. However: another pin was about to come out early this evening. Of course I caught it before it did come out all the way as I was checking on the one that I tightened before. It was a different one. Nothing that some blue loctite can't fix. But a bit disappointing. So I agree with the criticism on the bracelet. It was a very big hassle putting it on, and once on, the clasp is way too big and its diver extension makes it uncomfortable to wear. Also the pins to operate the extension are sharp and uncomfortable to use. I also might have to resort to ordering the alternative FC1 clasp as I do love the rest of the looks of the bracelet....
Clasp. One more perspective. Some of us have bear paws as hands (with small wrists) and a normal clasp doesn’t open large enough to fit hand through. Sinns diver extension helps. I bet this long helm clasp will help too.
I've had mine a year now and at first I wasn't crazy about it after a while I put it jon the NATO and now I wear it at least a couple of days a week. I tried the bracelet with both clasps and the rubber and it wasn't really working for me until I got it on the NATO, now I love it!
Ahaaa, you got yours already ? That was quick ! Mine is still in process for shipping. Glad I could pick one (actually 2, if you add the Khuraburi I also took). They were sold out very quick. Can't wait for them to come in. For the clasp, I ordered their normal clasp, the FC1 and only kept the FC2 with diver's extension in case I need it. But I will wear them with the FC1. Actually, Helm told me that they would maybe reconsider providing the watches with the FC1 by default, the FC2 with the diver's extension still being an option. It would indeed be a smart move. Nice video , thanks :) ps : Just note that the bezel is SS, not ceramic (at 8:55) ;)

I bought a Invicta Pro Diver as a early 60th birthday present to my self ..I love it ....Just a stupid question ...How many winds does it take to wind a automatic up . Noticed that it runs 6 sec fast when wound up & slowly goes negative 6 eventually , when wound down . I`m guessing thats normal .
I found out about this brand because of your past Helm reviews, the brand was always on my radar. I liked the prototype of the Komodo and the Hamtun H2, and bought a preorder of the H2 which I canceled. First I don’t like Kickstarter, second I think they did a little “Bate and Switch” third didn’t want to wait for the watch for over 6 plus months. I was fast on the trigger for the Komodo and got the white version with an additional silver bezel. I have an 8” wrist so the heft and height are not my concern. Not a bracelet guy so I believe I made the right decision. The look of the dial is what drew me to the watch, it’s different from all of my standard divers.
Great review! Love my Komodo and I agree, the bracelet clasp is massive, more than the width I don’t like the length of it! and a little uncomfortable so I am on the waiting list for the clasp without diver’s extension. I switch to a Nato strap but at the end went back to steel.
i do love your reviews! i will say that on my citizen blue angels watch that the lug holes are much higher making it almost impossible to use a non factory strap--there's no room between the spring bar and the case--even with a little filing (ugh) on the case--so this is the opposite problem. i'll take the helm "problem" any day. signed up with helm with little or no expectation of being contacted.
Nice watch. I own the khuraburi and they really need a twin trigger release clasp and shred some weight which would make them a superb watch at the price.
Just got back from my crazy weekend to the states only to find I picked the WRONG weekend!, as this beauty went on sale on Friday I believe. If I had been very quick I may have been lucky, although now I’m kinda glad I missed out. The word ‘chunky’ got used a fair amount in the video and the wrist shots confirm this. I wish my Vanuatu was thinner but it gets away with it been thick because the diameter is larger so suits it better. All things considered it’s great but like wise Jody points out it’s just not there yet. Perhaps when they have refined it I will take another look at the mk2 (next batch) meantime I would settle with the the Hamtun with THAT gorgeous dial, as I love the design colourway and handset. Close, but no cigar!

Great review Jody. As many others i too have been waiting patiently for months! Snagged the orange/ black khuraburi instead. Thankfully i did it in time as shortly after all had gone! Interestingly you say 400 komodos were made so i presume the same for khuraburi. That is some insane demand! Can't think of another watch brand to sell out that fast!
@@bravametal i got the paypal confirmation first then a Helm email 6 hours later to confirm the Khuraburi. So yes. I would of expected it to be on one email for you as i assume you bought together. If you bought separate then id chase it up just incase. If you had the PayPal payment confirmation at least that's your proof you'd paid for it.

I tried getting one of these and they sold out in like 2-3 hours when i was out to dinner. Reached out to Helm to see about getting one after they were sold out and had no response from the company. I can only hope they do another run of these soon and that I'm not late to the party again.
Would love any one of these helms. It’s a pity I’ll probably never own one because they sell out like crazy.😩 it’s got to be one of the best looking quality made dive watches on the market and for the money apart from the import tax which I’d pay, a watch to die for. 😮
I know not everyone has access to a high-end machine shop, but I'm thinking about adding a second set of lug holes for the rubber/ nylon straps. Time will tell...

More of these will be available in a month or two. The ore-order went in a couple of days,as is always the case, but I was able to get the bold orange for me and the classic black for my nephew. One note, they are more than happy to change to the jubilee style band at no cost, so make sure you ask when you order.

Got mine in Wednesday and agree on all points of your assessment, Jody. That clasp is a big eyesore. Also I have an issue with the screwed in pins... They tend to come out on mine. Yes, one popped out after a day of wearing it this morning and dropped my watch on the floor! It happened while at work, but I luckily had a small screwdriver to put it in again. However: another pin was about to come out early this evening. Of course I caught it before it did come out all the way as I was checking on the one that I tightened before. It was a different one. Nothing that some blue loctite can't fix. But a bit disappointing. So I agree with the criticism on the bracelet. It was a very big hassle putting it on, and once on, the clasp is way too big and its diver extension makes it uncomfortable to wear. Also the pins to operate the extension are sharp and uncomfortable to use. I also might have to resort to ordering the alternative FC1 clasp as I do love the rest of the looks of the bracelet....

Clasp. One more perspective.
Some of us have bear paws as hands (with small wrists) and a normal clasp doesn’t open large enough to fit hand through. Sinns diver extension helps. I bet this long helm clasp will help too.

I've had mine a year now and at first I wasn't crazy about it after a while I put it jon the NATO and now I wear it at least a couple of days a week. I tried the bracelet with both clasps and the rubber and it wasn't really working for me until I got it on the NATO, now I love it!
Went on waiting list today so hoping that I can get the white version you reviewed as I don't have any white divers in my collection

For the clasp, I ordered their normal clasp, the FC1 and only kept the FC2 with diver's extension in case I need it. But I will wear them with the FC1.
Actually, Helm told me that they would maybe reconsider providing the watches with the FC1 by default, the FC2 with the diver's extension still being an option. It would indeed be a smart move.

I bought a Invicta Pro Diver as a early 60th birthday present to my self ..I love it ....Just a stupid question ...How many winds does it take to wind a automatic up . Noticed that it runs 6 sec fast when wound up & slowly goes negative 6 eventually , when wound down . I`m guessing thats normal .
I found out about this brand because of your past Helm reviews, the brand was always on my radar. I liked the prototype of the Komodo
and the Hamtun H2, and bought a preorder of the H2 which I canceled. First I don’t like Kickstarter, second I think they did a little “Bate and Switch” third didn’t want to wait for the watch for over 6 plus months. I was fast on the trigger for the Komodo and got the white version with an additional silver bezel. I have an 8” wrist so the heft and height are not my concern. Not a bracelet guy so I believe I made the right decision.
The look of the dial is what drew me to the watch, it’s different from all of my standard divers.
I actually like the look of the low lugs with the rubber strap. Makes it look steam punk.
Great review! Love my Komodo and I agree, the bracelet clasp is massive, more than the width I don’t like the length of it! and a little uncomfortable so I am on the waiting list for the clasp without diver’s extension. I switch to a Nato strap but at the end went back to steel.
I was lucky to grab the Komodo White Dial! Waited at my computer until they went live @4pm PST.

i do love your reviews! i will say that on my citizen blue angels watch that the lug holes are much higher making it almost impossible to use a non factory strap--there's no room between the spring bar and the case--even with a little filing (ugh) on the case--so this is the opposite problem. i'll take the helm "problem" any day. signed up with helm with little or no expectation of being contacted.
Nice watch. I own the khuraburi and they really need a twin trigger release clasp and shred some weight which would make them a superb watch at the price.

Just got back from my crazy weekend to the states only to find I picked the WRONG weekend!, as this beauty went on sale on Friday I believe. If I had been very quick I may have been lucky, although now I’m kinda glad I missed out. The word ‘chunky’ got used a fair amount in the video and the wrist shots confirm this. I wish my Vanuatu was thinner but it gets away with it been thick because the diameter is larger so suits it better.
All things considered it’s great but like wise Jody points out it’s just not there yet. Perhaps when they have refined it I will take another look at the mk2 (next batch) meantime I would settle with the the Hamtun with THAT gorgeous dial, as I love the design colourway and handset. Close, but no cigar!

Dam I missed out yesterday. They sold out very quickly. Oh well I’ll get one in August when they have there next release.

Great review Jody. As many others i too have been waiting patiently for months! Snagged the orange/ black khuraburi instead. Thankfully i did it in time as shortly after all had gone! Interestingly you say 400 komodos were made so i presume the same for khuraburi. That is some insane demand! Can't think of another watch brand to sell out that fast!
Did you get a confirmation email for the Khuraburi? I snagged a Komodo and Khuraburi and only received a confirmation for the Komodo purchase so far
@@bravametal i got the paypal confirmation first then a Helm email 6 hours later to confirm the Khuraburi. So yes. I would of expected it to be on one email for you as i assume you bought together. If you bought separate then id chase it up just incase. If you had the PayPal payment confirmation at least that's your proof you'd paid for it.

Interesting watch. But any idea why it is so thick? I too like the size. 40mm is perfect for me. I think they got the details of that white dial perfectly. Can’t wait to see it on that alternate bracelet.

I tried getting one of these and they sold out in like 2-3 hours when i was out to dinner. Reached out to Helm to see about getting one after they were sold out and had no response from the company. I can only hope they do another run of these soon and that I'm not late to the party again.
Would love any one of these helms. It’s a pity I’ll probably never own one because they sell out like crazy.😩 it’s got to be one of the best looking quality made dive watches on the market and for the money apart from the import tax which I’d pay, a watch to die for. 😮
