High Voltage Igniter

  • Here is an easy to build high voltage igniter that can be made fairly cheaply. Ignition coils require their 12v power source to be interrupted for them to release the charge on the high voltage side. Inserting a simple 40amp car relay and wiring it to turn itself and the coil off and on again repeatedly produces a high voltage spark I use to ignite my pulse jet engines.
    Below is a list of parts needed. I sourced most of it from Amazon and there are affiliate links provided to the exact parts I used here in this video.
    Build Parts:
    40amp 5 pin car relay amzn.to/3w3c2hF
    12v ignition coil amzn.to/3w3cc8L
    Condenser amzn.to/3CLwabR
    Extra Wire (I used an old light gauge extension cord) amzn.to/3GKCeSW
    Shrink Tube (optional) amzn.to/3w8XJYV
    12 volt battery amzn.to/3XdTM0Z
    Crimp on Ring Terminals amzn.to/3QJntoj
    10-32 bolt and 2 nuts
    JB Weld (Optional) amzn.to/3GIMhYS
    Tools Required:
    Wire Strippers
    Soldering Iron (optional)
    Solder (optional)
    Soldering Paste (optional)
    Wrenches
    Welder or JB Weld

    This is the first video that steps through exactly the connections for these things.

      Thank you. I hope it was clear enough. I feel like sometimes a schematic just isn't good enough

    Auto manufacturers pulse the positive instead of the negative in their waste(d) spark management systems for better fuel economy…the high tension spark is attracted to both the positive and negative. So all you do is swap the leads around. This implodes the nitrogen in the atmospheric air and sucks the piston up to Top Dead Center from Bottom Dead Center. Use DC GENERATED NON REGULATED FREQUENCY this is where the MAGIC happens…like the model T Ford had on it. Thanks for this tutorial it helps out greatly! Please do more high voltage set ups in future videos. Thank you!

      I had a model T coil years ago and it got ruined somehow. Had to get a little creative and this works perfect for creating a beast of a spark for my pulse jets.

      The lack of likes for your comment gave me the realization that a future with cold fusion & a bright & prosperous future are on the same path of achievement.

    Could you increase the voltage to the coil to get a hotter more powerful spark?
    Maybe 20v?

    This ia a well made video, but it would have been even better if a circuit diagram was included. As they say, a diagram is worth more than a thousand words.

    Well presented simple device - I wonder if it would work as an electric fence generator?
    Good video but for electrical people a simple wiring diagram speaks a thousand words.

      Thanks, I suppose it would work for an electric fence generator, but I wonder how well? I thought about just putting up a diagram, but there are other videos out there with those and I saw a ton of people being confused in the comments, so I thought something more visual would be better for most.

      maybe use a 12v flasher in series on 12v+ side of coil?

    Without that condenser will the spark not pulse, because I have the same setup but without the condenser and it will only spark if I tap the negative wire coming from the battery and I want it to always be pulsing so is that the condenser issue?

    • @BuildNStuff
      @BuildNStuff  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you need that condenser

      @@BuildNStuff I cant say much because I dont know the rest of how its wired. If a coil has its poles swapped around it looses about 30 % of its spark & these tip of the spark plug runs colder making starting harder .I have a drawing of how to build one on my pulse jet engine sight.

    • @BuildNStuff
      @BuildNStuff  ปีที่แล้ว

      Although the condenser may be backwards, the ignition coil itself is wired correctly. This is how I wrote it down 15+ years ago and the few I've made this way have worked well. A condenser is most likely a non-polarized capacitor and if that is the case, it is irrelevant how you hook it up.
