Finally a Jack reacher series. One of the best books series ever written.
Jack Reacher was actually suppossed to be a big and tall guy. Which is why the author of the book was disappointed with Tom Cruises' portrayal.
So was I.
I don't think Jim (Lee) ever said that he was dissapointed. If I recall corectly, he said sth like: "I really enjoyed working with Tom on the set of the films, but I understand why fans were dissapointed with him playing Reacher. That's why we chose to look for more book accurate actor to play Reacher in our new series."

Lee Child, whatever his real name is, actually liked Cruise as Reacher because he felt he was the only actor who could pull off the character, his height notwithstanding. I thought Cruise was a terrible casting choice, but damn if Cruise didn't nail Reacher. This new portrayal makes Reacher look a little more comic, I'm not so sure that will play too well.

@@mk420m4 I'm in the UK so maybe that has something to do with it but I've never heard of this chap. I looked on IMDB and the vast majority of his parts are US tv shows that never got shown over here.
That can be a good thing, for me at least. I have no preconceptions whereas as soon as I heard of tiny Tom playing Reacher, my heart sank. I watched but mainly out of morbid curiosity and I just couldn't take him seriously as the character.
He was in Smallville as aquaman way back when.

Now this guy is Reacher! I actually liked the movies as far as the plot and action scenes but sorry Tom couldn't be further from what the character is supposed to look like.
Just about THE most read author on the planet with a humongous fan base . Hope the producers respect the intelligence and reserve of JR on paper then !
Good luck. Even though Child is himself is one of the eight (!!) executive producers, it looks like they set out to make Reacher likeable. They polished him up all nice and shiny.

The face works. The height is adequate. The muscles are weight room bulges, not right. The boyish charm and tough-guy talk is all wrong. These people are trying way too hard and missed the point of the character by a mile.
See I like Alan Ritchson , however the beauty of Tom Cruise’s ( Jack Reacher) that made it so appealing is the fact that Tom isn’t a very imposing figure. Alan on the other hand is the damn terminator so it doesn’t come as a shock when he’s destroying bad guys. That being said I’ll definitely give it a watch.
But it is book accurate.

Tom's Jack Reacher was a bad Reacher. It was a good Tom Cruise's character, but bad Jack Reacher.
Ritchson looks like a good Jack Reacher.
If he really is, than he's just better for the role. Honestly - even if he's not, he's still better as Reacher than Tom.

I don't know how to explain well but it feels much more like comedy with action than action with some humor in it. It may be just the trailer tho.

Big fan of the Reacher with Tom Cruise (yes, I know Tom didn't fit the description as portrayed in the novel) but I think this guy might have to grow on me. Not feeling it but I'll give it a shot.
Actor doesn't understand the role. Plus there's all these 'rules' film makers hold like a religion and kiss like a cross in pursuit of a hit. They don't actually know what they're doing so they follow the rules and something like the true spirit of Reacher just wafts out of their hands because they're not equipped to see it. One thing you have to say about Tom Cruise is he understands gravitas. Ritchson and the crew around him are doing EXACTLY the thing Lee Child set out to avoid in his books, he WROTE about it, but here they are doing it: they are trying to make the audience like the character, he's all boyish charm and cheap tough-guy talk. This is looking like a big disappointment.

I absolutely loved the movie versions and I never read the books sadly. I was overjoyed to hear that it was a series and the fact that we can binge watch ... day 1 I watched it 3xs it's fantastic and I want more....soon please

I don't know people what you all mean. After Tom Cruise's *terrible* Reacher (it was a good Cruise's character, but certainly not a good Jack Reacher) we can get a good, book accurate Jack Reacher character and plot, and you're saying such weird things?
Better ask yourselves if you could find any better actor for Reacher. Ritchson is really a good choice, and I say that as a great Reacher books' fan.
@@kacperz5683 I understand Cruise was not anywhere close to being book accurate and Ritchson has the look to be book accurate. However, at least from the trailer, his acting and the dialogue of this show appear to be pretty rough in my opinion. It takes more than just being built like a tank to headline and carry a tv show. Time will tell if this show has legs, but it seems a little rough right now.
@@chase138 How many Reacher books have you read? Cause I read almost all of them. In the trailer he acts exactly or almost exactly as Reacher in the books. Same attitude, same light smile, same arrogance.
You're right in one thing though - time will tell if he's good for the role. Trailer doesn't show everything.

It's a bit of a bummer that he no longer is Hank, but this wreaks of being a low budget series.
I was kinda expecting the show to be on par with Jack Ryan production wise.
But Reacher isn't a big budget character. Throwing a ton of money wouldn't stay true to the books.

@@kacperz5683 Ritchson definitely has the physicality and the look and moves well in the fights but in my opinion the humor and Reacher’s serious demanour doesn’t quite land. Cruise brought Reacher’s intelligence and experience to the role but not the books vision.

Probably better than Cruise, but I'm not happy with gratuitous bottle opening. Reacher is not a show-off cowboy. He's a humble angel of justice.
Totally agree. Not sure of the comedic tone of the trailer, but I’m just being picky
The bottle opening is just one instance. The dialogue in this trailer is full of verbal parallels to it. Another character dumbed down and made all shiny by Hollywood. Makes me wonder if they test potential directors and writers for reading comprehension and then exclude anyone who passes.

Just how exactly is jack reacher described in the books? Height, weight, hair color, fat, skinny, ripped etc.
Tall. lean .cold .smart .ruthless often uses hand to hand combat .silent not flashy looks like regular american fights for justice .to help to save others.deadly .doesnt drive becouce he doesnt want to bee faund always on the road travells by bus .train.if reacher doesnt want to bee faund you cant faund him

He definitely has the stature of Jack Reacher, but Tom Cruise had more of the charisma of the character in my opinion.
Well, he had none of Reacher's charisma. He was, once again, his own character. But he was a bad Jack Reacher. A good Tom Cruise's character, but certainly a bad Jack Reacher. He didn't fit for Reacher's role neither physically or by demeanor.
