    I am doing Narrative therapy at the moment. I really love it. I have a team of mental health workers from the hospital.
    Narrative therapy is the most successful therapy I have done .It helps your to rewrite your story.
    Example ,We have a good side of ourselves and a bad side. In my case the bad side of myself is dominate which causes me major issues in how I see myself.
    Narrative therapy activates the good side of my brain and helps me to see the wonderful side of myself.
    Narrative therapy is gentle and has taught me to value my true essence of who I am,and that a problem is just a problem, it’s not me.
    I am so happy I am doing Narrative Therapy.
    I can feel the shift in my thinking and look forward to my sessions with Chris. He is a kind genuine person.
    I walk out of my sessions feeling good.I was abit worried at first thinking it’s just going to turn out like the rest of my attempts to do councilling with me just giving up,thinking I’m doomed for life.
    I feel more grounded now. I really look forward to exploring my life and choosing to see the positive side of myself in different situations I have been in.
    I’m so lucky to have found this therapy.

    I love this modality being described as an investigative reporter, being curious about the narrative, taking into consideration the client's persceptive but not interested in the cause of the problem. The problem is externalized so the narrative can be positively changed. The statement, "The person is not the problem, the problem is the problem" made sense to me after hearing the whole lecture. I was surprise to see it lacked adequate research to assure its effectiveness.

    Good video. I agree with your empirical evidence assessment of Narrative Therapy. I use Narrative therapy in my practice and I do practice-based evidence by doing an Outcome Rating Scale at the beginning of each session. I have plenty of empirical evidence about my practice. I like the ideal of helping a client to take a problem saturated story and
    re-storying or creating an alternative narrative, but not in the extreme of
    complete isolation from the dominate culture. Thanks for helping me to see
    strict narrative verses adopting some aspects of the therapy.

    Thank you for making these videos, they have helped me out throughout my assessments, your way of breaking down different therapeutic methods is really intuitive, whenever I am unsure of a method or I just want to double check that I'm on the right track i check out your videos, I've never been let down, the list of different methods is comprehensive, thanks again!
    I agree, my opinion is the same, narrative therapy would absolutely benefit from more research and the application of scientific method.

    I really like how narrative therapy looks at external factors that can influence a client, such as socio-cultural and political effects.I also love that it can be easily integrated with other therapies, such as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. I think it is helpful to help a client see that the person is not the problem, but the problem is the problem. I could see myself integrating Narrative Therapy with clients. The one thing that I did not like about Narrative Therapy is that there is no diagnosing or use of the DSM-5. I think that this should be changed.

    Thank you for this explanation. I would be intrigued to see this therapy in a role-play. I like the idea of building an alternative story to the story the client is telling. I also like how a clients identity is formed by the narrative of their life. Put each of these concepts together and it allows the person space for change should this be desired.

    I love they way in which you structure your videos. Additionally, they are very informative. However, I think your viewers (including me) could benefit from you also including a transcript of the video instead of strictly a summary in the about section. This could add to your inclusion of the deaf community (the CC subtitles are not always accurate) as well as allow others tuning in the opportunity to both hear and visually see the information.

    Narrative therapy seems to be a resourceful method in dealing with children. It focuses on their story and perspective of the situation. It is less complex to apply with children or a population with limited cognitive abilities.

    This seems like it could be really useful and it’s really interesting. I learned about this researching mbti and reading about “my type” which is INFP ( not sure about the validity of the Mbti but have found myself enjoying learning about it anyhow even though it feels a bit self indulgent.)

    OK - one of ThE questions: what matters most to the client? the method - or the personality of and how the client and therapist interact? for me, it was both - But, i looked into like 4 therapists or more before i found my almost lifelong therapist - finally. (This also happened in looking for psychopharmacologist. one guy, when i put my hand out to shake his hand, quickly with a sort of oh NO, put both his hands behind his back. didn't pick him! :}
    Also, -- people who have no education in psych have no idea at all that there are so many approaches and that they can even search for a person they like! what do we do about this? - now, there is nothing out there except that one needs to see a therapist (which is great) / - and make sure 's/he' is a "licensed"! one.

    While I may not agree with the philosophy, I do see value in Narrative Therapy. This view of the role of the therapist is interesting as is the creative techniques. I like that it focuses on a person's story or life, the whole picture rather than just the problem at hand. It's useful in that a problem is externalized, allowing an individual to see themselves apart from the problem, especially since there is a positive focus and look toward the future. I can see how this can be particularly useful in working with children and adolescents; they might embrace this outlook or opportunity. I can also see how techniques such as using letters would work with the elderly in modern society as well as those who are visual learners. It would work well as an integration with other modalities.

  • @FrancesShear
    @FrancesShear 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I find your description of the narrative therapy process confusing. Not only that, the way in which you have described the process is making it sound more like research using a patient volunteer to investigate the possiblity that trying to manipulate a patient while they are talking about their life story into changing their life story as if that would help the patient. It sounds more like a way for the therapist to help himsefl while getting paid by a perpetrator who wants to cover up his crimes.

  • @johnfruits3544

    Do you think that you can use Narrative therapy with clients that have problems or concerns outside of themselves? Perhaps they are worried about caring for a parent, or how they are going to pay their bills or obtain a certain grade in school. Perhaps they are worried about the health of a friend and this worry is excessive.

    Problem Saturated Dominated Stories.
    Therapist tries to build alternative story...
    Problem explored never named.
    Seeks to build an alternate story. What was it I got book 2 of the Gulag. Am I remembering what is not me ???
    Letters..email, written, alternative story.
