Nice quick job. I have done mine last year after I replaced the heater matrix and thought I might as well get the heater back to working properly.

I might pick your brains a bit more on how that’s set up when I get to the point of fitting my heater. That’s looks like the sort of setup I would need. Was no heater in my mini when I got it, it’s a 1980 so would have expected a port on the block to attach the valve to but there isn’t, think I will need a sandwich plate on the thermostat and similar set up to yours.

I think for a 1980 its an klder version ghat was attached rather than this later floating valve, both similiar but different mounting areas and differeng cable lengths, not sure of the top of mh head the year they changed over

@@DBMiniDIY still far off worrying about that but will sort it out when the time comes. not worried about period correct as long as it works, my mini was far from original when i got it. this set up looks like i could make it work.

I have this same valve on my '88 Carb mini. Hope it doesn't start to leak.

Its normally the valve mechanism that fails or seizes on them, not the fault I had, this was obviously a faulty part

Any tips for getting the air out of the system after replacing the valve? (I'll be replacing mine soon because it stopped moving freely due to corrosion in the metal hinge points. I had to open it and leave it open this Winter by "helping it along" with a pair of pliers!)

I make sure the heater valve is open and hot air blowing, leave the rad cap off initially and keep an eye on tbe coolant level and engine temp.
