  • CORRECTION: Element destruction in PvE and recycling is to be removed soon, but for now is still in the game.
    I had misread the dev blog on the recovery which can be found here:
    board.dualtheg...
    Dual Universe entered update 0.23 amidst concern, with part of the community worried that, amongst other issues, space for the solo player was eroded, that some players had an unfair chance to prepare for the upcoming changes, and that their most fun ships were grounded due to the risk of permanent loss in PvE.
    Following JC Baillie's tweet stating that NQ had heard the Dual Universe community, NQ, in a staggeringly quick release, have addressed most of the issues and have, to quote Charles Dickens, Recalled to Life, their game.

    I do apologise, I misread the dev blog on the recovery which can be found here:
    board.dualthegame.com/index.php?/topic/21715-weve-heard-you/
    It seems we are all still grounded. Hopefully they will restore ships after they remove PvE element destruction.

    It takes about a week for someone to break an MMO habit, especially in cases where they have other games to go to (cyberpunk and steam sale currently). The fact that lightening the changes took over a week, means quite a few players aren't coming back. Especially in smaller groups where they won't have the resources to get their industry back up in under an additional week of time.

  • @saelfaer
    @saelfaer 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I hear what you are saying, basically they answered very quick to the backlash they recieved. However (and yes the test server will help with that in the future) are we not allowed to slam them for not having thought this through entirely before releasing? This is not a regular beta, they made it into a beta which we have to pay for to play. So I can expect a bit of professionalism in their releases.
    I'm already looking past the fact that this beta is a misnomer, as a beta is feature complete and is undergoing stability changes and performance improvements. this is very much an alpha in that sense. Yet I'm willing to look past that, but still expect them to test their releases, I don't pay to test the game for them. I pay to play.
    The feeling i have with NQ in the past 4 months that i'm with them is that they are making things up as they go along... they want the game to go in a direction so they push it there. Not really thinking about the impact they release that within 1 day after telling us about the massive changes. Then they see problems with it and work on fixes for that. instead of thinking ahead. A small example where they do stuff and not think about consequences: they introduce the big industry change, see some backlash about people investing talents in crafting and now unable to use those talents because they are not going to invest in factorybuilding. So NQ thinks, ok, lets wipe talents. boom,. done. Without thinking of impact, litterally everyone has to start spending 12 million talentpoints clicking talents one by one. They could have thought of a better way. an consumable item, given to everyone. consumed on use, but resets talent points if you want to. Way less friction than the reactive development and quick releasing they do now.
    I look at the coming of this test server with reserved positiveness
    At the one hand it will help them push out changes, make us find all the problems, and then have them release fixes.
    But I also fear they will just let us do the testing and put out releases on that test server that are ridden with bugs for us to find. Most studio's with test servers have downsized QA teams. So i fear it will not make them work more professionally... they will just let the test server do the testing.
    we'll have to see in the future i guess.
    edit: i do not agree we have a shared responsability to test the game on the test server though. I don't pay to test the stuff i'm later gonna play, i pay to play it. NQ has full responsability to test their product.

    • @ShamsTales
      @ShamsTales  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We do get to slam them, naturally, and many players have. Some that have remained positive and have chosen not to slam them are equally aggrieved but are trying to stay positive. We can continue to provide feedback, knowing that at least they are in fact listening, and hope that they improve their systems moving forward.
      Hopefully, with expanding the test server, the amount of information available to them about systems and features will increase. I also hear what you're saying about responsibility, and I accept the point. You don't have any responsibility, but the option will be there should you want to.
      The talent point reset should have been an opt-in system, yes, reinvesting was a chore. Even if there was a way to invest in, say, a level 4 or 5 skill with all of the prerequisites in one click, it would have been less tedious, but, I was excited about the clean slate as well so I spent the hour or so fixing the talents again carefully.

    • @saelfaer
      @saelfaer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShamsTales you are right man, staying positive is always more fun than being negative, for both parties ;) but it is too easy to take a negative stance in all this. they are above all taking our money to make this game, so we ask a little thinking before they act. whether it's putting out a patch or reacting quickly to backlash. They have to take everything into account. And the history has not been on their side on this one. (removing constructs with a quick query on the DB cost us weeks of missing constructs all over the place) This should be a think they can test. It will be easier to see the outcome of such a change on a test server, but that doesn't mean they could have already tested that query on a copy of the live servers without the need to spin up an entire server for that. they could just do it on a copy of that database. And that's where my fears lay ... a test server will be super helpful, yet NQ will not learn to test before they put stuff out, they will use the test server for it.
      but again, i remain a player, and I will have to see in the next 2 months if they learn from the current mistakes or just keep repeating them and fixing them quickly.
      the latter is nice for once, but you have to learn from them too!

  • @roadhazard2002
    @roadhazard2002 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    All they did was make a bad idea less bad by making it cheaper. They should have left basic items producible and made schematics and skill points needed for higher tiered items. It would have still stung but it wouldn't have locked out all industry at once. I'm still playing but seriously considered leaving. Hard to get behind a game developer who thinks it's okay to destroy months of work their players put into the game. Now they are talking about nerfing mining with the linked container nerf in the works.

    • @ShamsTales
      @ShamsTales  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dan. The mining linked container nefs they've said are meant to apply for very deep mining, as in, over a kilometer away from your container, and they've talked about systems to manage that, like mining drones and other active means of managing the ore you mine.
      I agree that the very basic, tier 1 ore, refined products, and produced elements should have been free or even cheaper than this, but I hear what they're saying about it being something that needed to be worked for more than it was before. They were always intending to make industry this way, but due to time (and I think also money) constraints, had to implement things in this order. It wasn't ideal, and this is not the end form of industry, they're going to be making more changes too farther down the production pipeline.

    • @roadhazard2002
      @roadhazard2002 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShamsTales Is anyone really calling for this nerf is there a real outcry from the player/payer base? There is only 3 main things in the game to do mining, crafting/industry and PvP instead of trying to add to the game through subtraction they need to put the devs time to better use and add more to the game. And if they are going to come up with a "solution" to manage it anyway then just leave what really isnt broke alone because it will only cause issues, like needing another skill point reset.
      This is just like the maneuver tool nerf someone wasted their time and moved their ship some distance JC got so offended and thought it was so game breaking that he wasted a devs time on a nerf, do you really think it was happening to such an extent that it needed to be nerfed?
      One good thing about 0.23 is they got that insanely game breaking Bonsai tree market under control with the 37,000,000 Schematic price. LOL

    I think another thing they should do whilst some is on a tile even though it has not been claimed it should remain un claimable whilst they are still on it Why? well the other day, some one was mining a tile some one apparently turned up & buried his ship! He could dig it out because they claimed it! Now this guy was pissed & almost left the game, me & others told him to submit a ticket & also name & shame who did this, he got support from all of us persuading him not to give the game up! When PvP come more in to the game i.e. Territorial warfare outside the safe zone then you could simply fight for the tile or destroy the other ship e.g. kill the other player before you can claim, this could work like if your mining as soon as you see some else appearing on the same tile, you either force re spawn & get back to your ship to defend it or dig your way back to the surface to defend it! This would mean before you log off you would have either move your ship to safety or put down your claim! How attacks on owned tiles will work if some one is not online to defend in the future will be interesting! I suspect there will be a similar system to Eve? Force field protecting your hex goes into reinforcement like eve counts down depend on how much energy is supplying it etc or some other system giving the defender & attacking forces the opportunity to be online at the same time to cross weapons! lol

    Horrible patch that leads to killing the game. After wasted in-game millions & still F'd the game. Kinda late to fix it. Have fun with the lack of returning players. If they had listened to players when there was all kinds of input that they really did ignore & wait till people were basically yelling at them how so horribly bad they broke it, it would probably be worth playing still. Plus they broke some great scripts by players they drove away prior to the patch. RIP

      @ShamsTales  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Charles, I hear what you're saying, particularly about the script makers leaving the game, that was a tough blow. I'm hopeful that a public test server, moving forward, will mitigate situation like this, but I do still feel that the speed with which they fixed things (even though not everyone agrees with how they did it) was impressive. Perhaps, a long time from now, this will all be a distant memory in a thriving game.

    Sorry to hear about your cat dying. With that said,
    Come on Shams... you went from being a nice guy to a wealthy shil for the game. They didn't 'fix' the game because they are attentive or community driven. They do NOT want solo/small groups in the game. But they need that beta money and population count. Massive drop in population count + massive drop in renewals + Panic, is what burnt the midnight oil, not NQ's good will...
    "we understand that it’s too soon to press for intense specialized gameplay considering the lack of sources to earn money."
    What this really means: when there is more ways to make money they will pull industry out of reach, again, for non-corporation gameplay.
    Without a wipe the PTS is moot. They gave big corps another heads up on the schematics refund and how it will work and griefers and dickheads were all over it, making a TON of money, again... How far ahead do these dicks have to be??
    The game, devs, griefers, big corporations are just kicking around the new/solo/small group players.

    • @ShamsTales
      @ShamsTales  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Joe, I don't disagree with the main sentiment of what you're saying, but it's important to give credit when it's earned. They did listen, carefully, to conversations that took place on reddit, in forums, in Discords, and they implemented sweeping changes very quickly. It's still reasonable to be angry about the narrowing of scope for solo-play, and it's definitely reasonable to be angry at the unfair advantage taken by a proportion of the player base, including those who turned massive profits through the schematic price roll-back, I know that I am. But, even with the limited game systems in place at the moment, given the new price of schematics, and the fact that those prices will be tied to average market prices, meaning large orgs can drive down the price of items, but, that would also in turn drive down the price of schematics, solo/small group players are still able to compete. It was always an uphill fight for market share against enormous groups of dozens of players, but with these fixes, there is now some room to compete. I do hear what you're saying, but I gave my honest opinion in this video, which you're perfectly free to disagree with. I've never been called a shill before though! So, that's a first. If I'm wealthy now in game it's because I spent 2 days straight mining out all my super nodes, that was tough!
      Thanks for your comments about my cat.
