    I made a follow-up video comparing the English vs Japanese versions of this product: the results might surprise you!

    Imho, the sad thing about the TCG Classic Collection is that, while the Box itself, the Damage Counters etc. are OBVIOUSLY targeted to players, I feel like the price is targeted to collectors only. It's just too expensive to just buy to use it for playing with friends etc. I'm currently trying to get a reasonably priced box just without the cards now instead.

    • @tcgbuyersclub
      @tcgbuyersclub  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      This is a really good point! And the price has been jacked up even higher above the Japanese price for the English release 😅

    Dude the only classic set worth getting is the japanese. Metal counters. Wood board and leather deck sleeves. Plus the cards look amazing. And what 250 msrp compared to the plastic counter part worth 400.. but yes tell me

    The fact is for players over collectors, well that's exactly why I am thinking about getting it. The original cards were made for players, not collectors, and lolk at the market for them. These will fall into that same market eventually because the players who buy them will scuff all the cards.

    • @tcgbuyersclub
      @tcgbuyersclub  9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Maybe! My guess is the majority of copies of these cards are not being playing with but I can assure you mine are 😂 Thanks for watching!!

    @Mrfinch9999 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    The problem with your argument is that the set was literally designed to be played. Even the original reveal talked about it (I suppose even the ones who created the product are wrong about who they created the product for according to you though). It is supposed to be and designed to be a timeless set that you play with your kids and grandkids.
    That is why it is more expensive and made with higher quality materials, it is meant to be a high end product built to be played for decades.
    The price point is set to target whales. Aka now rich adult casual players that use to love Pokémon as a kid to give or play with there kids (aka exploiting nostalgia). They have so much money they do not care about the price or are so impulsive they do not know how to have self-control.
    That is why the old starter cards are included and focused on, but many cards are not from the original sets. It is not designed to appeal to collectors wanting old cards, but decks that are balanced to be played against each other. The set does not even contain the original Mewtwo, but a version that is stronger for this purpose.
    It is also why people are so annoyed with the price, because it is not designed for collectors. If it was, nobody would care about the price.
    A set for collectors would just be a holo reprint of the old set (or portion of it), include posters, mats, figurines, etc. It would not be a set built and focused on being played.
    You see, the Pokémon company is not that stupid. They are trying an experiment here, how much are people willing to buy for a premium set? If people say no, they will lower there prices. If yes, they will raise them.
    The Japanese set (which is made with more premium materials overall) was retailed for under $250 USD, which is closer to what the price of the product actually is. But the Pokémon Company does not have that much respect for western audiences (never did), we always get the short end of the stick.
    At 200-250, this set would be perfectly priced for what it is (which is why the Japanese set is in that price range), a high end play set aimed at people who use to play Pokémon that want a casual experience to appeal to there nostalgia and share it with there children.
    It is also why the price of the product is below 400 now and ebay listings are losing money on selling it now. There is even a chance that it will not be worth anything at all in a decade, especially if economic times get hard or something like that.
    There is nothing really collectorish about this set at all. The only reason it will have value as a collector item is because of the Pokémon branding and it's scarcity. Like how the Wii U is expensive because it was a financial failure while the Wii is cheap because it sold well.
    In conclusion, people are not "wrong" about the set at all. The set is $199.99 to $249.99 (or else Japan's MSRP would not put it in that price range) and because it isn't, people feel it is overpriced because it is.

    • @tcgbuyersclub
      @tcgbuyersclub  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I appreciate the detailed response and I agree with everything you’ve said, except that I was seeing a lot of these being opened and the singles resold, which suggests to me that a lot of collectors were going after the cards.
      I think your analysis is on point though and maybe I misread the market reaction to the product. I can tell you as someone who has played with it, the decks are a lot of fun 😊
      I also plan to take a closer look at quality of the Japanese product too because it’s a tragedy if we paid more for worse quality 😩
      Thanks again for watching!

    If I get it I am playing with it. Not only that, but people already go out of their way to buy the black star promo cards which have almost zero to no difference from the regular rare same for the uncommons. If it was up to Pokemon they would never do reprints, but it's what the fans want, so that is what they do. Buy it because you want it. Oh, yeah the card sellers even if they wanted to aren't buying up the English versions just to sell the cards themselves it's not financially possible, and even if they could they wouldn't buy them up as the item is jeopardized. The only places buying them other than stores are card or hobby stores and they aren't opening them up just to sell the cards individually. Another thing to note is that those cards don't have the 25-year anniversary stamp on them and while the English ones aren't the most desired right now is still have their own special rarity also WITHOUT the stamp and in ENGLISH still.

    I want it. I'd buy it. If I didn't get laid off then I would have it... It certainly has its flaws it's not perfect, but it's not bad. If someone wants it bad enough they will buy it. Too expensive = I don't want it and will spend the 400 dollars on something else that costs the same. It doesn't matter what what you splice it... At the end of the day, it's Pokemon and the cards will always and forever hold their value and Pokemon will always and forever be a thing. Today it's worth 10 dollars and in 5 to 10 years will be worth 1,000 dollars.
    If the English version is already jeopardized then the item itself is gonna either hold its value or go up in value, especially since everyone who does want this product is getting the Japanese version. There is always a buyer, especially for Pokemon cards. You already cannot get those cards anywhere else in that COLLECTION BOX and if you could those cards in that Classic Collection set would still go up or hold their value, and when Pokemon does so happen do its reprints (which is still almost never) the cards are completely different. None of them are the same. Totally different card and a totally different item. It's not like Yugioh where they do a 1:1 reprint. I will eventually buy it and for the Japanese version I will just get the card packs themselves they are 50 to 100 dollars each it seems.

But y'know, we're also in a cost of living crisis - I think a lot of people have to be a lot more choosey about what they can buy at the moment which makes the value of this seem even more unreasonable for a lot of people who might have previously splurged on premium products. Curious to see what happens with these, I love the cards personally (japanese with the full holo around the border) so hopefully I can get my hands on them but I'm also realistic enough with my money situation to know I may have to give this one a skip.
