    • @Padraigp
      @Padraigp 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes unfortunately it takes an education to understand what's going on and a lot of populist simply don't understand what's going on on the planet. So it's very easy to get them to vote for brexit or ttpip or whatever you want by pretending to understand them. Like forage who pretends to be working class... targets a scapegoat enemy and the populist has no idea how he's being moved as a pawn. Because he has not been to university he hasn't read history he isn't educated.

    • @Padraigp
      @Padraigp 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @logicus_mentis I mean everyone with a history education knows this is predictable. And some educated people have banked on the ignorance of the populist to mobilize all of this. To what end? Probably " clamping down on right wing extremism" which does exist. But also existing are the genuine peasantry who have genuine reasons to be rioting and resisting all of the elite educated arseholes who are fugging them in the ass. And the wonderful thing is now educated peopke will see all populist as racist all criticism of the eu as silly...the eu forced countries to bail out bankers. The eu forced ttpip through secretly... the eu works for the oligarchs but so do all the brexiteers and so do all the pawns in this little rioting populism albeit unbeknownst to themslves.

      Your first part is complete bollox, or are all remainers Tory suck ups? As for your second part, it's not like remainers had any clue either. Let's not forget that it was the leader of the remain side who started and caused the whole thing, while having no plan in place. Then he quit one day after not getting his way, despite promising he wouldn't. That was the remain leader, he was the one who opened the door for May, Johnson and Truss to continue effing things up.

      Absolutely. All the brexiteers I spoke to were basically Little Englanders who had faith in the fact that since, in their perspective, Britain is better than everywhere else - simply being 'unrestrained Britain', even in an unsympathetic world, was the path to glory and Empire again. Not one of them had a objective argument, they were all subjective and emotional. When pressed for any detail they would jump to their next dog-whistle sound-bite.

In fact, it was the EU that invested in disadvantaged areas from the Highlands to northern England and the Midlands, to south Wales, places the Tories will never help because there are no votes in it for them. Deprivation in the UK is a home-grown phenomenon, huge wealth all in the hands of a small percentage who are connected throughout their lives from birth to school, the City, clubs and institutions and who use their influence to keep it that way.

      @@KevinSheedy10 I see what you're saying and agree with most of your points. However, it's still not leave voters who are even partly responsible as that paints all leavers as the same. As you point out, it's the racists and nationlists and while they likely voted leave, they do not equal all Brexiteers. I hope you'd agree with that.
      Even so, if leavers are partly responsible, then so are remainers. There's a whole load of them parroting the same crap that all leavers are racist, or only voted for nationalist reasons which is complete rubbish. I can see why people would react to that high and mighty attitude of stirring things up. If one side is partly responsible, the other side is equally responsible too.
      Ultimately though it still comes down to that one man. Neither leavers or remainers put the opportunity to vote for Brexit in place. One man and one party did that and they didn't have to. It was only given to us because cowardly Cameron was scared of a loudmouth like Farage. All done without any plan and even as the remain leader, he should have had a plan in place because he was PM. Let's never forget that this same coward promised to see it through, whatever the result, then he ran off day one, leaving the door open for all the incompetent, corrupt Tories to follow.

    I think it was the Bank of England which said that the average family in the UK has seen a £2000 a year year - for - year deficit in their incomes ( 2 grand a year worse off ). When this was put to St Nigel his response was to laugh it off and quip something of the order of, " oh, let`s make it £20,000...."

    I remember waking up after the referendum utterly shocked we had voted to leave. My personal fear was that we had allowed the conservatives to run us as they saw fit without the checks of the EU. The lies, the deceit, the backtracking. If I may misquote a platitude 'divided we stand, united we fall.' we all end up as handful of dust. Also have you seen the cartoon of the cookies on a plate...?

      @johnrice4191 instead of cheap EU labour you've got cheap Asian and African labour at a higher rate than at any point compared to EU workers.
      Also, inflation was at 7.5% and an average of 4.9% the last 6 years sp your mates wages are lower inflation adjusted. But of course don't expect you to understand any of that as clearly, you are dim.

    Will Self right about everything there, except, rather embarrassingly for a writer, he attributes a very famous quote by W B Yeats to W H Auden.
    Probably a slip of the brain because of the initials being similar. And not really important. It's a great quote.
    "The best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity" is from "The Second Coming" - Yeats' fearful vision of the apocalypse.The poem ends:
    "And what rough beast, his hour come round at last,
    Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born".
    Trump and Johnson both are rough beasts. Both slouch.

    Will Self at 11:00 ‘I think there’s a perfectly good case for leaving the European Union but the problem is… it’s a vector that carries with it ethnic nationalism... If you go to the heartland and you talk to people… the ethnic nationalism comes up right away, immediately, so it’s there.’
