Which is what made him man-up for her and take him back.

While they both did develop feelings let's not act like they started off as an actual real couple. The whole point is it was unexpected relationship that formed from a FAKE RELATIONSHIP. The whole deal was they were only suppsoed to stay married until their debts were paid and then they divorced. They were never supposed to even live together or see each other
