I have a 535d (M57 engine) that was difficult to start when it was around zero degrees celsius or colder. After i changed glow plugs and glow plug module, my car started easily in minus 10 degrees celsius. When diesel cars have problems starting when it is cold, it is very common that the glow plugs and/or glow plug module are defective. The smartest thing is to change both the glow plugs and the glow plug module at the same time when you first have off the intake manifold.
It is worth mentioning that more modern M57 engines, such as the 306D3 with Euro 4 or. 5 standards, also use the glow plugs during operation to achieve optimal combustion temperatures. A defect in the glow plugs can therefore manifest as a "sawing" or rough idle, which stabilizes again at operating temperature.

Hello, thanks for sharing 🙏
After change glow plugs it needs to do something in computer, clean some error or something?
I ve changed them in 2020. Fucking hate to do this...fear of getting one stucked or broken is so high.
How would you remove snapped ones?
Theres glow plug electrode removal tools, sometimes you can get to them with an "easy out" broken bolt extractor tool which is far cheaper.
