My second favorite album of all time after their next one, Blackwater Park (2001). The story was the thing that really brought this album to the top for me. I love me some medival storytelling and the music with this one just fits soooo good as well. Everytime I listen to it, it plays like a movie in my head. For example, you can really hear the anger of the protagonist in Serinity Painted Death as he goes on a killing rampage. Amazing album, love the art as well. I hope Blackwater Park is next, not as good of a story but the songwriting and production is absolute peak.

    Lovely video :)
This kept getting placed on my TH-cam home page as a recommendation over the last few days and I finally gave it a watch today! One of my personal favorite albums is maudlin of the Well's "Bath." It's a truly beautiful journey of Avant-Garde and Progressive Metal with lovely composition and beautiful highs and lows. It's not very well known, but it would be amazing if you could give it a review! It really does get better with more listens, in my opinion.

I love Opeth and this album so much. Amazing song writing and memorable moments. That 2nd riff in Moonlapse Vertigo is one of my favorites though. It always hits me the same as if I'm hearing it for the first time, so beautiful.

😂😂😂 Nice joke during 'Moonlapse Vertigo. That's also my favourite song on this album. So much layering. Chills all over. Nice way of reacting to the music and musical ads are also nice to see.
Cheers and I'm ready for more Opeth.

I love this album, it's so good how each song shows the mood of each part of the story, you feel how angry the protagonist is in the first two tracks, the past burns inside him but there's some hope left for a future with his lover. He finds some deception when he realises she's a nun but they love each other, in moonlapse vertigo you can hear the fear in the acoustic guitars moving like sneaky spider legs in the shadows hiding from being found, in this very song the threat is revealed and these guys are quite evil as they kill Melinda in front of the protagonist, causing the shock and bloodlust of Serenity's painted death. The sound of the White cluster is anxious and nervous, the repetition of the main motif sounds like the protagonist's final minutes before he is hanged, there's a final minute of despair and internal struggle against his fate but there's nothing else to do. But at least there's a bittersweet ending showing how the last thing he sees is his lover again.

This is in my opinion the best album of all time, followed by pale communion. Many would say blackwater park, and allthough i do absolutely love that album (and all of their albums lol), it does have a few tiny moments that make still life throne over it. Not a single second on still life is anything else but spectacular.

Enjoy the upcoming show! I've seen them a few times. While the venue plays a big role in the acoustics, I've always been impressed with their live sound - you can hear individual notes, unlike an Iron Maiden show where you just get pummeled with sonic sledgehammers.

At this point you've put yourself in a position where you have to react to Blackwater Park, Deliverance, Ghost Reveries, and even (for me at least) Watershed. You can be sure that I'll watch, like. and comment on the video. If you want to become more popular with the keyboard gleaning, of course you have to also "do" the Damnation album.
Still Life's masterpiece status is really the (mostly) triple guitar harmony as well as that that harmony being a combination of acoustic and electric guitar at the right times. I love channels like yours but the "easiest" part with Opeth is to find the effing simple chords. I would love to see your videoes taking a longer time for you so that we can watch you figure out different harmonies and understand of how "classical" it is as well as just unique composition :)
I'm going to see them once again in the Netherlands on 22 Feb (2025) and I. cannot. wait.

The end of Serenity Painted Death is cut off abruptly on purpose, just like what happens on the song Closure. In the later song it emphasizes dying (or at least that's what i heard) so that's why it's unexpected. In Serenity might be somewhat similar or maybe he (the protagonist) get hitted and therefore he fell unconscious, and then we get to the final song when he is about to die and re-encounter with his loved one

@swiftla it's from Damnation probably their most well known album since it's more soft and mellow (a lot of sadness tho) . After Opeth released their most successful album called Blackwater Park in 2001, they did a two sided record (at least that's what Mikael had in mind) but then they decided to separate them. First is Deliverance in 2002, and then Damnation in 2003. Both are about a person's struggles with depression and SORROW, the first it has more of a raw type of sound and it's surely their heaviest album. The second it's their most popular record and it was the first that doesn't have any growls on it.

Your a talented fella figuring out Mikaels random chord structures 😅
I hope I had something to do with you going chronologicaly through this absolutely immense period of albums,
Next album is subjectivity better then still life, but that's only what I think, could be either, changes often 😂
To be be honest, it doesn't lose awesomeness, just what you prefer from a monumental band.... 1997 - 2008 are 9.0's to 10's albums
Edit... the concept, is .... I'd tell you, but enjoy the figuring out, you know from your breakdown of the concept at the start of your video...
