It was verified that Mori was sick with the flu during this performance. This was the time when her past management was pushing her 2 keep performing even when she was not feeling well. She has since changed management & has been taking the correct choices in her current singing. U can tell in the newer songs years past this one. But U can't deny this performance & why the original singer, Andra Day legal push 2 have the Wish Bus take this off their line up and why U can't find this anymore on the Wish list. This surpassed the original artist video views & why most people around the world thought that the original song was sang by Mori. All bcuz of this video.

Yep. She needed steroids prior in order to perform.
Same with her Wishbus performance of Gusto Ko Nang Bumitaw.

@curvytok081 Mori did. She was prescribed corticosteroids to help her with her symptoms. You can even hear her breathing sound even more raspy than normal in this performance.

Andra has complimented Mori for her performance. It was simply her label pushing copyright laws. And although Mori absolutely murdered this performance, when I listen to Andra’s original version, I really believe it’s really Andra’s song through and through. Credit to the originator for providing a monstrous performance from Mori.

This Performance is Older than Never enough probably 6-7 years ago. she is pretty young and exploring herself. and yes her technique here is costing her since her career in those years was booming and making her name in the industry and she always wanted to give her best. and she always been great. but now, she knows on how to take care of her voice. thanks for your reaction

This is one of the most epic performances of Morissette on the Wish Bus. She was sick that day, and still this performance leaves most reactors, professional musicians and music/vocal experts as well as non-professionals stunned. She adds some effects to her singing to show even more emotions. And for me it works! If you want to know how it sounds when she is healthy check out her acapella version of "Rise up" which she recorded (with 3rd Ave.) for her birthday in 2020.

Thank you, Dr. Dan, for featuring this "Rise Up" cover by Morissette on the Wish Bus. Your review and analyses are well-appreciated.
I noticed your particular concern on the parts where Mori used her squeaks, such as on the "I feel like dying" and another during the climax parts of the song, even her noticeable "intake of air". I have the opinion that these were her artistic choices and were all intentional, in order to give this rendition its own flavor, that is, to "Mori-fy" it. Can we just imagine for a minute if she did not do those squeaks, will this rendition be as beautiful and emotion-evoking as it is, that it became one of the most viewed videos of Wish, most reacted upon, that it is said that it even surpassed the views of the original A.D. singing it, that her recording label went as far as having this video taken down from You Tube. What we are watching now and what you reacted to were just re-upload from fans. We understand your concern being a vocal coach and trainer yourself, that singers should take care of their voices, for them to be able to sing and perform for a longer time. But maybe there are times when an artist has to go the extra mile, sometimes beyond what is expected to be the limit, in order to give something more than the ordinary. Without those squeaks, growls, and other vocal effects (including that breathy approach and that audible breathing-in) in this performance, it may have been just an ordinary cover of the song.
One more thing, I didn't notice its overall impact on you, the way it did to others who watched it the first time, how they felt the intensity of her delivery, causing goosebumps and awe in them. Perhaps in our quest to analyze things and break-down a performance bit by bit, we sometimes miss to look at the whole picture and appreciate the totality of the art that is present before us. That is just my view and opinion, of course. But I certainly am looking forward to watching more of your reactions and reviews of Morissette's performances. 😊

The overall impact of a highly emotional performance is severely diminished if one pauses the video regularly to comment and rationally dissect the performance analytically meaning the head is in operation rather than the heart being fully in tune. On a side note being ill could might as well mean a highly charged emotional song could be delivered with extra fragility and vulnerability by a very skilled singer increasing the emotional content of the song.

Awwww, this is baby Morisette. Seems so long ago...I mean it is. I'm sure a lot of people will tell you that this video was taken down due to it having more, waaay more views than the original artist. Not sure if it was copyright or drama. That's neither here or there now. She was also sick during this performances. She has most certainly grown leaps and bounds since this performance. She is willing to learn and grow and explore how much more she can get from her voice but also keeping it healthy. Dr. Dan, I think you are ready for her EP called Signature. Please listen to the original audio first and then all the live versions she did. There's only 5 songs in it and there's something for everyone. But one of my favourite one is called "Love You Still" which is about her estranged relationship with her family. To this day, they're still not on speaking terms. So much so, that they didn't attend her wedding to Dave Lamar-who is very much a huge part in her career. They make a good team because he does her videos, editing, producing but he's also a singer and a musician. Anywhooooo, I have said this and will always say this, you do not JUST listen to Morisette but you experience her. Take care Doc and have a wonderful day. God bless.

As people have said it was her old management pushing her even when she was ill that caused a few problems for her voice later. It was also a very old session (probably about 6 years) and she has matured a lot since then.
You need to check out some more recent performances such as the "Bruno Mars Evolution Medley" or "Could you be Messiah".

Her acapella version of this song is imo way better than this Wishbus gig. Released during the height of the pandemic - and on her 22nd bday, it was recorded with everyone on quarantine. It was her bday gift to the world in crisis. That was Mori, healthy and well-rested. Hoping to watch it on your channel.

Mori herself has said in one of her vlogs in December that her Doctor has warned her that, if she wants to sing into old age then she has to change her style of singing by cutting down on the whistle tone and vocal cracking, so instead of giving 120% she will only be doing 100% which she will still have difficulty following doctors orders, just love this Lady.

Note the headphones off her right ear. She was sick with the flu during this performance. She needed to compensate her voice accordingly (singing at the side with her mouth, being able to hear her own voice). She is a master of adjusting herself to sound PERFECT.

She has certainly done many vocally challenging songs and performances over the years, exceedingly well. But she has said in a more recent interview that she is now striving to preserve and prolong her voice for the long run. However, it appears she does have the ability and stamina to finish a long set with a powerful performance, as proven by "And I Am Telling You" as the finale of a lengthy set.

This was the second performance I have ever watched of Morissette (during Covid) and it totally convinced me she’s the real deal. Like many of the comments have already mentioned she was sick during this live performance. When I went further down the Morissette’s rabbit hole I soon discovered that her previous management and probably her father too had basically used her as a ATM machine. Her voice was overused and as a result fatigue in her voice in certain performances was very evident.
Morissette has said to her fans in a recent Vlog that she is now managing herself and she’s going to be more selfish with regards to keeping her voice healthy. With Dave (her husband) by her side I think her overused voice is a thing of the past.
Thanks Dr Dan for your concern and yes I get it … as fans of this amazing voice we all want her voice to be healthy and for it to go on well into her latter years.
Keep reacting to Morissette and I will keep watching! 👍🇦🇺

She was sick, her voice was fatigued, singing like that could damage her voice... How many times I have heard these comments
Maybe, maybe, maybe, honestly? For me it’s Mori’s best performance EVER.
The almost sigh of surrender in some lines, her hoarse voice, as a person crushed by the harshness of life, which seems almost unbearable and then, and then the furious reaction, growling, belting full voice: nothing and nobody will bend us, there will always be my strength to support you, no matter what life will throw at us.
Nobody does it better than Mori, not even close

I've seen a lot of vocal coaches worried about how this particular performance is damaging. But now mori know how to take care of her voice ,Thanks to her ENT and her supporting husband. Mori needs to stop singing super hugh notes for a bit

This was done in 2017/18 and still not known Internationally that much , so , since Filipinos, covet the HIGH piercing notes in song.... she added more, but in 2020 when Covid hit, and she began writing own music, with hubby Dave Lamar , she realized , to cut back on the crazy notes....squeaks, whistles , to preserve her voice. She had already had a node removed from vocal chords around 12 or 13.

  • @MineCraft-nz9pg
    @MineCraft-nz9pg 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

One reactor even put the vocals of this performance in a computer thing so we can see how perfectly or not perfectly she hit the notes .
And like most great singers ,She only hit the correct notes like 2 or 3 times ,other times its a bit sharp or flat, but you don't hear it as pitchy, and the reactor said ,this is true for allll great singers when they dong correct the pitches.
Also she was sick here, you can hear her voice is a bit more raspy and when she tried to use her squeak ,you can hear it only comes out like an intentional voice crack ,the sounds that made you worried.
And you're so right, its a very very damaging to her voice.
She recently talked about how her ENT got mad at her and told her to stop singing the big belty songs if she want to have a long lasting voice.

I totally agree, she has abused her voice in the past that’s one of the reasons why she will no longer whistle tone in her songs, vocal health and image didn’t want it to define her. She recently spoke on her vocal health and kind of said in a way that she won’t be pushing the envelope so hard anymore. In all honesty, she could sing 3 notes and I’d be more than happy.
She was sick during this performance and during this time she was pushed by her management to do a lot. Actually too much. I would love to see your opinion on her new videos that she had recently released on her channel.

Of all the Reactors who have dissected this performance you are the first that has noticed she ran out of gas at the 12:14 mark. Of all the songs I've listened to it is the only time; so I'll attribute it to being under the weather. I also agree that the enhancements are to bit much in one or two performances. Just because you can, doesn't mean have to do it all every time. Having said that, she is one of the best in the world.

Yeah I'd have to concur that she has some habits that are tough on her voice in a few spots. I have heard before she may have been sick here. However, that aside, the APPROACH to some of those notes is concerning - not worth further semantics there. I here very little that sounds "bad for the voice" in the areas closer to her "speaking range" but when she's moving into that next register (around her first break) there is too much pressure/tension. The sound doesn't start until a half-measure after it should - which is a bad place to be. I love her voice and think she may be one of the more talented artists I've ever heard. There are just some habits in there that will make it hard for her to keep singing over time.
