Even though this was a sad topic, thank you for this video! It reminds me to trust my instincts (even if I don't have an entourage there) when wedding dress shopping!

I am sorry for you. After similar experiences, I learnt to leave a deposit as my « earnest » money. Sometimes they will agree to hold the dress/item if you do this.

An opaque slip would have been a pretty easy fix, from the get-go. I am surprised that no one in the whole process recommended
Your dress actually looks very pretty, and the back « U » looked very good. (In my opinion, it actually looks better and more flattering than the original very deep back-V.). I am an amateur seamstress, and I know that one generally takes the side seams in first. Usually one attempts to distribute the amount of the alteration across several seams, unless you are going for a specific shape alteration.

Wow ... I was stressed for you. I’m bridesmaid to my bff and we found the perfect dress and price and look and everything .. I witnessed her bridal moment .. it was so special .. videos .. prancing around .. everything .. she was also wanted to see other things .. but I knew this was it .. majorly convinced her to buy it at that price first .. if anything else .. can sell it after if anything came up ... we then went to a ton more stores and nothing came up .. we brought it home .. EVERYONE in her family and other bridesmaids HATED her dress ... so devastating.. she kept on looking .. nothing .. a month later I asked her do you still love your dress .. YES SHE DOES .. moral of the story ... stick to your gut... she’s still in love with her dress 👗

Awe thanks for sharing your story of your bff! I'm glad she got the dress and loves it! Upsetting that her fam didn't like it but what matters is how she feels about it! Couldn't agree more with you though.. find the dress you love BUY immediately 😊.. wish I had done that too 😋

In retrospect...maybe you could have bought the original dress when you first tried it, then resold it if you had actually found something you liked better
Sorry you had to go through the stress but it worked out 🙂

I think a seamstress should ask what you love about the dress. Spend the time listening to every single part that you love about the dress so they know the best options for everything

I couldn’t imagine experiencing this because the dress is suppose to be the easiest and most fun part of planning a wedding 😭 I hope you left her a bad review on her page or yelp or something so other brides don’t have to experience what you experienced! I would have left as soon as I saw how horrible she did the first time lol I would have not trusted her to do anything else on my dress.

I know I totally should have left at that point too... Bad decision! I did leave a negative review on her page lol but somehow she has a ton of good ones. I don't know how 😒.. anywho thanks for watching girl! 🥰

You should have taken it to another seamstress. They could have opened the back up and restored the deep V if she had left the fabric in the seams and then taken it in from the sides.

OMG girl!! I'm so sorry this happened to you... I had a mini panic attack last friday when my seamstress cut my dress a little to short. It's a mermaid dress but after the alteration it just became too blunt and looked terrible... I almost cried but luckily without the heels it looked beautiful. Went back to the store a few days later and saw that the seamstress was able to stretch the material (using steam she says) so now its the perfect length... I was sooo happy because I was afraid my 4k dress (which is ridiculous as a price but as you said weddings drive you crazy!!). Wish I watched your video about veil diying because mine cost 350$CAD. Finally a tip for anyone reading... don't be afraid to bargain the dress price even in ''expensive stores. I was able to get my alterations and a 150$ veil for free although I ended up choosing one that was a bit pricier and paid the difference. Thank youu so much for your videos.

By the way I also got my dress off the rack because I picked it within 4 months of my wedding. ... crazy stress!

Omg!!! I am waiting for my dress and hope I don’t get such a bad customer service. Sometimes I feel like they are making us a favour
no a job we pay for . Totally understand I also hate that I paid more than 1000 per my dress too.
If this helps I think your dress looks good :)

I’m here because a variation of this is happening to me now. I have a week and a half to turn my $5k dress back into the dress I loved after $2,300 worth of horrible alterations. She cut out some of the boning, folded up and sewed through the boning, so now instead of a corset top I just have a mismatched abstract triangle dress

🥺🥺🥺🥺 I’m so sorry girl I know that is the most frustrating situation to be in. Wishing you good luck and good vibes 🤞🏽💞

Can I ask the name of the boutique you saw the dress for the first time? And the second time? Any really good boutiques for off the rack that you recommend ? Thank you so much!

Aw what an awful story! I bought my dress off the rack too. Mine is about two sizes too big so I hope the alterations on mine will be less stressful than yours! I loved this dress and had to get it but part of me is wondering if I should just spend more money and order it directly from a bridal shop (I have more time) since the alterations cost a lot of money. But then I still have to get it hemmed and possibly get other alterations too so... not sure!

    • @DIYDalia
      @DIYDalia  5 ปีที่แล้ว

Awe I'm sure you'll have better luck than me! Are you getting alternations done at the actual bridal boutique? I think that makes it less risky... Or go to someone that is recommended by someone you know!

@@DIYDalia My dress is from a bridal consignment shop. So many of my friends who have gotten married recently also had luck there. Two of my friends got their dresses altered in the same place and recommended it to me, so it should be ok!
