Maj. Hames asked me to explain that he had been to Brecon a few times before this because he was in the Special Air Service for some 16 years, seeing as nobody else seems to mention it
I did a JMC in Kosovo ran by 3 Bn REME in summer 2000. My appointment was a night insertion into a Harbour Area. Managed to get lost for about 2 hours wandering about near the Serb border and failed it. Before I got the chance for a 2nd go there was a wildfire near the harbour area and they decided that me taking control of the blokes and situation in a no duff scenario was enough to pass. My how I laughed. I'm just giving myself a Cheers Dits as we speak :D
Excuse my ignorance but what regimental cap badge is John Reynolds? it looks similar to the light dragoons, I left the Army many years ago and regiments seem to keep getting merged and old ones go and new ones emerge
Royal Gloucestershire, Berkshire and Wiltshire Regiment (RGBW), as was. Were then re-rolled a Light Infantry regiment, becoming the RGBWLI, and then amalgamated with the Devon & Dorset Light Infantry (DDLI), the Royal Green Jackets (RGJ) and The Light Infantry (LI) to become 1 Rifles. I'll 'cheers dits' myself.
The Officer Commanding, Maj. Hames (at the time of this training appointment) was already no stranger to the Brecon Beacons. He'd already served 16 years in the SAS !
Seems to be the biggest f**k up was by Vern on previous night manoeuvre, which was stopped due to being a clusterfuck , HE passed that assessment, while the same instructor failed others on more minor issues .. favouritism at play , or did I miss an episode or something
Like the instructor mentioned, Stokes did a lot of things right before hand in regards to orders. And he likely had a good report prior to that, so he'd naturally have a bit more room for error. Instructors will know whether it was a one off easy mistake to make or just another f up by a guy who isn't switched on enough
I was an instructor in the army. At no time dodgy or any of my fellow instructors show favouritism. Years later I was an instructor in the fire service and the same applied. I can't say what the hierarchy did when We presented our results.

I love how calm Captain Ramsey is, measured tone and delivery.
