Loved this! I hate that it has taken me this long to find it. Lash was my dad's favorite cowboy hero. The man that trained Harrison Ford how to use a bullwhip.
Him and my grandfather were good friends. My grandpa died this past march. Lash would come to my grandpas pond to get turtles in Easley SC. I remember the first time he whipped a whip at my feet scared me to death sounded like a 12 guage shot gun going off. He even gave my grandpa one of his whips. He was such a nice man.
Wow!! I'm a huge Lash fan and I had no idea he was ever on Letterman. I am in awe of how cool this is! I even devoted an episode of my "Collector's World" series to Lash. Check it out. And thanks for posting this!!
Being a fly fisherman I could see the mistake Dave was making in trying to crack the whip.. He needed to use his wrist to 'roll' it forward instead of throwing it.
Yeah, good post, obviously the 80s, but when people are posting stuff like this, it would be REALLY "great" if they posted the date AT LEAST THE YEAR of the broadcast.

As Lash's granddaughter, I want to thank you so much for posting this. My mom, brother, and I were very happy to watch it.

Season 3, Ep 12
Feb 16, 1984
Really interesting to randomly find this after Mythbusters just did a whole episode on bullwhips / Indiana Jones!
Dave was a lot funnier in his early days than his later days.
GREAT Post!!
I'm guessing 1982 on this.
I have some signed Comic Books by him if anyone is interested... My Grandfather Philip Morris Traveled around with him in the 50's and 60's
I am his granddaughter and am interested.
Sorry, 1984 with the Olympics reference in the monologue! LOL
