I know it might be a bit of a pain to wait the 15 minutes at the start up, but here in the midwest we have a LOT of humidity, so dumping the pellets and emptying the auger is pretty good in that it saves future jams.
Thank you very much for this awesome thorough honest review. Here in Las Vegas the 1200 is in clearance $499. Thanks to your review, I know what to look for vs. the old model! Wheels, auger side access etc!😊
One thing to note: dumping the pellets might get slightly annoying after every user but you'll be thanking the stars every time you switch from hickory to apple to cherry and it takes all of 3 seconds and absolutely zero hassle!!
I'm new to all of this, but you're suggesting that most (all?) grills do *NOT* have that feature? Is that feature called a "pellet dump" as I check around?
If you find the right size wok, it certainly will work. They have a carbon steel pan and maybe now they have even made a wok?!??!! Thanks for watching!!
Hi, Thanks for the review. I've used my DLX 900 twice now and I learned quite a bit just watching you do the cook. I'm looking forward to using it more often now. I was surprised that you didn't include a handful of pellets to speed up the start process.
Thanks for the great content!- love these reviews! How long does it take to go through the start up and get up to searing/grilling temps? I’m thinking about one of these to replace my gas grill we use daily.
I really like the look of that pit and what it can do. Not liking the extra stuff like having to dump the pellets after each use though. Good review though, thanks Ricer!
@@zach2605 I only take them out when I know it will be a while to use. Other than that, they stay in. I have probably the most hated pellet grill on the market (Weber SmokeFireEX6) and never have issues with pellets, or anything really. Kind of what I like about it, easy to get to the burn pot and do a quick clean before the cooks. This one looks like it might be a pain to clean out but I'm lazy...LOL
YA the dumping of the pellets is a little of a hassle Troy. It does a great job cooking though! So for people in the south that deal with a lot of moisture in the air they typically dump their pellets anyways. But for us up here we don't have that issue so it is an extra step!! Thanks for watching brother!!
Looking at buying a grill this weekend. I’m between the ok j dlx 900 gen 2 my local store has it on sale for 599. Or the pit boss pro 1150 at 699. What would you personally go with?
oklahoma joes grills are crap..... nothing but problems service center is a joke use to be able to buy at Lowes, Blains, Ace, True Value.....now????? no one carries them...NOW I KNOW WHY
Good review boss, I made sure I subbed to to support.. Overall thats a good looking grill im surprised you have to empty the pellets each time, but i like the sear zone. Keep doing the thang Jeff✌🏿👊🏿💯💯
Heck ya Joe this pit is a searing machine!!!! Plus it runs pretty dang good for a box store pit!!! Thanks for the support brother and I hope you are having a great week bro!!!
I just was even made AWARE of pellet grills the other day...I know, I'm late to the party, right? The few videos from you that I've seen are *V E R Y* informative, & THIS grill checks pretty much every box. It doesn't have the feature to control with an app, so that being said, can you suggest a comparable that DOES? Features important to me...high/low temp variable ...the actual grill/flame area, & the hopper size.*TIA* *EDIT:* I'm seeing LOCKING hinges on both sides on the Home Depot sight...yes/no?
I would look at the Weber SEARWOOD. Priced right and runs great. The bonus is it has some great cooking accessories!! The Oklahoma Joe is an ok pellet grill but lacking way too many features right now!! Thanks for watching!!!
Are you seeing better pit temp control with the 2 internal ambient temp probes? I'm thinking the easy hopper dump during shutdown will help guard against major auger/hopper fires. As usual, awesome review! 👀🤘
Yes Judge this pit holds temps a lot better than the 1st model!! It runs hotter than the set temp but it holds at that temp without huge spikes!!! The dump is not a big issue but it does take a little longer to fire up! Thanks for watching Judge!!
Hey are you still cooking with this pit I’ve been cooking with it for a few months and mine cooks too hot I been cooking for a few months now hoping it would brake in and work it’s self out but it hasn’t so for example I’m cooking a butt right now I set the grill at 200 this morning an when I put the meat it was at about 218 few hours in running at about 225 5 hours in its running at 250 have you had this issue? Thanks
I am having the same issue. I would set it for 250 for ribs and it will shot up to 270 n then slowly come down to 255 but when I open it it drops in temp n the. Go back up to 270. I am trying to fix this. Coming from a pitboss 850. Let me know if u fix it
I'm having the same problem with a. DLX 900. I don't know what the fix is. I may have to call their eight hundred number and see what their solution is.
I have only had a nightmare after nightmare after getting the rider dlx 900...nothing worked after a handful of times cooking. None of the parts they send work..and also the Er2 code will not go away. After a year no fix. Very unhappy along with many others and they wont listen. Best smoker potential destroyed by people that don't seem to want to give quality parts and fixes. Maybe you can tell them for the rest of us?

Ha! I was watching this here in LV debating on that same deal!!
I had to pass on acct. family emergency and truck repairs. But if one is still around later on, going for it!@@shannonsensi7789

Good review Jeff! I need to get one of those strainer basket thingys that gets rid of the pellet dust!
They are pretty handy! Good way to store the pellets too.
Heck ya Rus!!! That screen deal is awesome!!! Thanks for watching brother!!!
Is there an accessory that lets you use a wok? The sear burner looks perfect to pull out and have an insert to hold a wok.
If you find the right size wok, it certainly will work. They have a carbon steel pan and maybe now they have even made a wok?!??!! Thanks for watching!!
I third video I’ve watched and I’ve gone from traeger, to pitboss, to now definitely getting this. Love that sear plate !
i own many Oklahoma Joe's. they make a great product. nice job Jeff.
Thanks Scotty!

Meh, I just turn it on. I have done that before in the past but most of them fire up quick enough now!! Thanks for watching and enjoy the new pit!!

I always empty out my hopper between uses. Started on a Pit Boss and upgraded to the OKJ. Keeps the pellets fresh and the auger from jamming.

It's definitely best practice, especially in a humid climate. I suspect most of us are usually too lazy to remember to do it though...

My buddy gave me this exact smoker and my front legs don’t sit like those I tried to switch it and it wouldn’t fit any suggestions?

Looking to get a smaller pellet grill. The Oklahoma Joes Rider 1234sq-in grill. Those any good?
What's your favorite pellet smoker (with wifi) ?
Lone Star Grillz but for a box store, I am really liking the new Weber Searwood. Thanks for watching!
Love your videos. What are you spraying on the ribs? PS Just ordered the DLX1200 !
Thanks and congrats on the order! We usually use water, or a mix of water and apple cider vinegar. Apple juice is great too.
Saw this at Safeway for members at 299 from 599 i think im gonna go back for it lol
That is a good deal!! Have fun with the new pit!!
Very well presented
Thanks for watching!!

I just got a DLX 900. it's been great. I haven't had any issues. I've only done two cooks. Sounds like you just got a lemon.
