  • In this video I will show how you can adjust the focus to infinity in Pre-Ai Nikkor 28mm 1:3.5, this is really good if you use your old Nikkor lenses with an adaptor on a different camera brand, and you want the lens to actually have the correct focus, when the lens is set to infinity..
REMEMBER to set a mark, just like I show in the video, on the inside of the focus ring BEFORE you make any adjustment, just so you can come back to the original setting.
    You will need:
    1,2mm flat head screw driver.
    JIS00 cross head screw driver.
    Sticky rubber gloves.
Nail polish remover and a cotton bud.

just started following through to attempt repair of my loose focus ring / stuck focus, reached 10:00 and realized the three focus ring retaining screws are missing! where does one get more of those?

Thank you for posting your video. Very nice demonstration. It looks like you are the one that can help me.
I have a vintage 500mm F/5 Reflex Nikkor lens I bought around 1972 and it has been a jewel. I have all five filters. It is in great shape.
Now I want to use it on my Sony A7RIII and the Nik-NEX adapter is just a tiny fraction too long and it will not properly focus on infinity and most of my hobby now is astro-photography so the moon and stars are not crisp and in perfect focus.
If the adapter was too short I could shim it but I just can not see a way to shorten the adapter and it seems foolish to buy more hoping to get one that is exactly correct or maybe even a tiny bit too short which would be OK as I could focus "to infinity and beyond"... remember Buzz Lightyear?
Do you know of a way to adjust the big lens I have, even a fraction of a mm would likely be enough?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi i have a question. I have a non ai 50mm 1.4 nikkor lens. I had it cut so it can be fitted to my dslr. But the focus on my visor and the photo never matches. The actual photo focus is more forward than the visor is showing. Im using liveview to focus my images point on. Not the lense but the mirror and dslr has an issue perhaps? Thank you

Just some ideas, is the viewfinder diopter set correct so what you see is in focus, are the same as the green focus confirmation dot in lower left corner in the viewfinder is steady, have you try the lens on another Nikon camera.

@@mikeno62 Hi, diopter adjustment is set correctly. And i tried the lense on d600 and d7100. Both have the same issue. It doesnt focus on the infinity. In order to focus in infinity i have to dial the focus "nearer". Also on the closer objects the view and the actual photo have different focuses. This is very interesting i asked many people but noone has ever seen it

Well, then I would guess the focus helicoid has been disassembled and not being assembled correct. It could also be some of the lens element's that not sit correct after a repair, or the focus ring itself don't sit correct, it was just some ideas.
