I have been embroidering Christmas free Standing lace this year and found I like Mesh wash away Stabilizes for designs. It is more secure, but washes out easy.
I have this machine and I specialize in free standing lace. You don't need 3 layers, 2 suffices for this design if hooped properly. You can also skip over whole pieces that you don't want to stitch out. There is a technique involved that either wasn't used or shown. When it's not used the pieces will not last, when it is they will last for ages. Great job for first time!

What size needle did you use? Mine seems to be tearing the WSS.
I use Organ brand needles 15X1ST size 80/12 sharp/ballpoint for the Brother PE550d embroidery machine.
