    Great to see a current R1250R owner compare it against the new year’s model. Me, I plan to keep my ‘20 R1250R until the rumored R1300R appears.

      Hey Buddy, good to hear from you, I hope your keeping well. Yes like I said, I won’t be changing mine as not enough reasons. For 1200 owners thinking of changing its worth it I think but if you already have a 1250, push pause I think for now, especially if a more changed motor is on the way.
      All the best and keep safe out there!

    Appreciate this vid immensely as it looks like I’ll be trading up to this bike from my current 1200R as I literally cannot find a bike I’d rather own. The Mandello being the latest challenger to disappoint. The subtle extras do make this final version just about perfect (for me!)
    Cheers.

    I test rode the same sports model at my local BMW dealers last week prior to placing my order for a R1250R. I had it for 3 1/2 hrs and did 60-70 miles. I agree with your comments about your wrists, I found exactly the same with my wrists and shoulders. They had began to ache so was glad to hand it back to the dealer. I've ordered the ice grey with higher bars so it will be more of an upright riding position & more comfy.

    Thanks for the Chelmsford Tour, cannot believe how much it has changed since my Marconi aprentice days, I think only the original door remains for a plaque! Stayed during the week in 27 Primrose Hill, that is my uncles original 1960's garage about to fall down, the mk1 cortina long gone. Grandparents lived in new retirement bungalow in Writtle, walking distance to Chequers pub. Last time driving through my father 'new the home town roads' so well we went wrong way down a few one way streets!
    I have had the older R1200R 2013 and since had 2 R1200RS, 2015/2017 and not sure if next will be the R1250R or RS but no heated seat for me. I prefer the taller 'sport seat' for added comfort, better leg angle and no toasty bits on a long trip.
    (at 18:40 - my first crash! 1970/Yamaha Yas1 in sight of the railway bridge - new rider, teflon japanese tyres, poor brakes! I wonder if the original dealership still exists) so unable to travel from Benfleet, hence local family help. The Geaves factory (motorbikes & Invacars) at the end of the road also 'long gone' from thundersely.
    Glad I swopped Ilsington and Dartford for Islington and Dartmouth, except when taking a tour to europe but plenty of space in south devon for a winter ride before all the holiday makers clog up some routes.

      @@TheWrittleRider My 'old' R1200R was the first bike I took to Norway, and they say "you can't tour on a roadster?" It was my first trip that far north, arctic circle,Lofoten etc and was perfect. 3 other trips there on the RS and 65/70mpg with help of 50mph limits but still the R1200R was the one that made the memories. Even got a published tour report in MotorcycleSport&Leisure, shame that Covid screwed so many extra trips!

    The R1250R 2023 doesn't have a lot of changes. The lights, the option for the heated seat and some other minor changes... but, what it really matters is, that it is still a very good bike. For the 2023 it just needs a bit more lively colors I think. Great review. Enjoyed it a lot.

    I just rest road a R1250R , coming from a 10 year old Harley Davison I still thought the engine felt agricultural. You seemed to like the quick shifter but I thought it wasn’t very good as I test road a S1000R afterwards and it was miles better. I still think I will test it again for longer as I have always wanted a boxer twin. Cheers Chris

    • @TheWrittleRider
      @TheWrittleRider  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Chris, thanks for watching and giving your own thoughts and feelings on this. The S1000R Quick Shifter would be smoother because it’s not a boxer engine. I also understand that the boxer could be thought of as agricultural especially when compared to other smoother engines. I’m not and have never been a sports bike rider and I know the shifters on those bikes are very smooth. What I would say is that if the demo bike did not have many miles on it then the shifter could have needed a few more miles to bed in. Earlier this year I rode a KTM Super Duke GT and the quick shifter literally didn’t work, so could be the set up. I love the ease of the ride and the fact that the bike is literally awesome no matter what type of ride I am out on. That said, it’s not a popular bike and people do often choose the S1000R instead. It’s overlooked as far as I can see, but we all have very specific likes and needs and maybe the lack of a beautiful engine tone is a deal breaker for you, it definitely is not the best sounding bike😁.

    Torn between this and the RS. Wondering if I need the faring. What made you choose the 1250 R over the RS?

    • @TheWrittleRider
      @TheWrittleRider  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michael,
      Thanks for watching and for your question. So first things first the bikes are almost identical apart from.
      1. Riding position - slightly more forward on the RS, more relaxed on the R.
      2. RS corners better no question.
      3. The fairing
      Other than that they are the same as far as I am concerned.
      The the question is really which seating position do you like more and do you need the screen?
      If you ride all year in all conditions then the RS is the bike I think.
      What I would do if your seriously considering both, is talk to BMW and ride the bikes back to back. Take your time, go for a couple of hours on each bike. BMW are going to make a sale so they won’t mind.
      But, after the test rides if you are not convinced on either then walk away.
      I didn’t even ride the RS until I owned the R so I didn’t chose the R over the RS, I just didn’t actually try the RS. That said, I do prefer the R.
      I don’t ride all year so don’t need the fairing though and also I prefer a more upright riding position.
      Hope this helps.

      @@TheWrittleRider thanks so much for the comprehensive reply. Your detailed review definitely helped me decide. I want a more straight up if not relaxed riding position to keep weight off of my wrists (a factor on long rides). That coupled with the fact that I do like the look of the R vs the sport bike look of the RS will lead me to the R. And I can always add a "minimalist" windscreen if need be.

    I have a 2021 but the only thing that bothers me, is the vibrations when going over 5.000rpm. Dealer says it's normal, but it's pretty easily felt in the bar, the seat, the pegs. Below 5.000rpm it's very creamy. Maybe it's a boxer-thing?

    • @TheWrittleRider
      @TheWrittleRider  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @lapinobel - I own the 2019 model and dont share the experience of the vibration over 5000rpm, that said I dont ride it very hard and at 6000 rpm you are breaking the law in any gear! I love mine and would not swap it for the 2023 model. Waiting for something else to catch my eye perhaps... but nothing by BMW, Triumph or KTM can beat it yet... in my humble opinion!

    I am in the process of selling my GSA 1200. In all honesty, I don't know why I bought it. I fell for the trap on the GS group. It's too big, boring, and just unnecessary for road riding. I'm 27, bought the GS 4 months ago and have done 300 miles on it 😂.
    I'm yet to ride the 1250R, but this will instantly be the replacement. I love the boxer. Just not the GS. I'm not to keen on the RS, as it comes across as an old man's sports bike.
    I want sonething plenty quick enough, can still tour and has shaft drive whilst it won't be my out n out weekend toy. I'll still use this more than the 'toy'.
    I want to get the 23 model with the updated light. However, I'm just wondering when the 1300R is released? Will it be the back end of the year or perhaps 2025?
    Thanks for the fantastic review.

    • @TheWrittleRider
      @TheWrittleRider  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi @ Inked,
      Thanks for viewing and sharing your experience and thoughts.
      I would say you must be one of the youngest riders to have bought a GS and definitely in your age group the GS is possibly not that popular. image and Pricing possibly being the two main reasons.
      I agree for road riding the GS is not a necessity but I do love them and the 1300 is totally different in almost every way (in case you have not been on one yet).
      I still own my 2019 R1250R and I love it for all reasons ( commuting / Touring / Country Lanes ) and I know you will love the bike.
      The 1300 will probably show up on the 2025 model I expect and I would say it’s worth waiting as the new 1250r is not really much of an upgrade to my 2019 model and, contrary to many reviews, the Jump between the 1200 and the 1250 is not really that much.
      Wait for the 1300 and Enjoy!
      Ride safe and all the best…

    • @inked-96
      @inked-96 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @TheWrittleRider Thank you for your reply. Yeah, I was indeed a young GS owner. Without sounding to disrespectful to GS owners, I personally think it's a retirement bike. Just my opinion. I think adventure bikes are a scam. The 1300GS was quick, but it was 22k, which is bloody ridiculous.
      Whilst I could buy a R1250r 2019 for 8k, it doesn't come with a warranty, which is a big thing for me.
      So could I get your thoughts please.
      10k for a 2019 1250R Sport with all options 5k miles.
      12.5k for a 2023 1250R, Triple black and 2k miles.
      I'll be buying outright, so I won't be tied down when the 1300R comes out.

    • @TheWrittleRider
      @TheWrittleRider  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @inked-96 Your comments on the GS make me smile, also Yes they are very expensive and at £22k for the new one well… it’s insane!
      Now as for the choices, I own a 2019 R1250R sport with all the bells and whistles and it rides exactly the same as the 2023 R1250R.
      Questions to ask in order to decide (baring in mind both bikes will ride identically.
      1. Do they both have quick shifters?
      2. Does the 2019 bike come with a warranty (including the battery)
      3. Is the Battery on the 2019 bike sound because they cost £180 fitted and this bike does need a perfect battery as it’s a big engine to start - mine died after 2.5 years)
      4. Which one do you prefer the look of?
      5. Do they both cost the same to insure & Service and run?
      6. Do both bikes have ESA?
      7. Do both bikes have same modes (road / rain / dynamic / dynamic pro)
      If it was me and I preferred the look of the 2023 bike… I’d go for that one so long as the extras were what I wanted…

    • @inked-96
      @inked-96 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @TheWrittleRider The 2019 bike has every option ticked. Esa, quickshifter, etc. Comes with BMW approved used warranty(2 years) and is £10,000 wirh 5k mileages.
      The 2023 is the SE, so all options, triple black, £12,500, 3k mileages, and again, 2 years approved used.
      I'm just trying to justify the extra expense, especially when the 1300R is coming in 2025? I'd like to get your thoughts from someone who has more experience
      Would I likely lose more on a 2019 model or the 2023 model?

      Although potentially the 2023 model will be less desirable when the 1300 comes out at that point whereas the older 2019 model will be less affected by the new model release.
      In general a new bike depreciates 20 - 25% in the first year, then by about 15% year two and the 10% each year after.
      I’ll let you do the math for the two R1250Rs you’re looking at.
      Here is a useful article I found for you to copy into your browser.
      www.bennetts.co.uk/bikesocial/news-and-views/advice/buying-and-selling-a-bike/used-bike-depreciation-when-to-buy
      There is also a part of me saying just hang onto you money and the GS for another season and then get the 1300.
      Which ever bike you go for if you buy now you will lose money on in the short term, But if you hang onto the GS now, it wont depreciate much more over the 1 season and then you still have got plenty to put towards the 1300.
      I know what it’s like to own a bike that you don’t like and want to get a new one so it’s very tough to be sensible. But buying another bike just for one season is only gonna end up losing you money.
      Just my sensible thoughts for what it’s worth.
      Good luck with your decision and whichever R1250 you go for (if you still do) you will love I am sure.
      All the best

    With the exception of the new headlight, colours and heated seat it is identical to the the 2019 model. You used the word similar so many times its misleading it's the same bike!!

      Hi David, yes you are right, I did use that word about 100 times! It’s identical except for the facelift I make you right.
      Hope you are keeping well, thanks for watching and commenting.

      Hi Hawkslayers1, thanks for viewing and for giving your feedback.
      I’ll try to use the phrase less 😃.
      I don’t plan my dialogue it’s all just made up as I go along (apart from the bike walk around where I do have some stats in front of me) so I do know I may repeat myself a bit!
      Thanks for viewing and please do Ride Safe when you are out next.

      Hi Matt,
      Thanks for viewing and giving your opinion. I suppose when you look at the direct competition they are not miles away from the monster, the Superduke or the triumph speed triple. If you are comparing to Japanese bikes then yes of course it’s over twice the price.
      It’s always the base price is almost ok and then you add ESA and keyless ride and the luggage and then it’s the same as a deposit on a house!
      Essentially it’s a dream bike, but if your willing to go for a low mileage 3 to 4 year old model the 10k might just do it… still not cheap but more possible.
      All the best and Ride Safe.

      @@TheWrittleRider The cost isn't the issue the competition is 16k gives you far better alternatives.

      Hi Matt,
      To be honest having been on almost all of the bikes in direct competition I prefer the 1250 over all of them (just my own opinion and preference here). When price is not the issue people choose what they prefer and there is lots of choice in almost all levels of motorbikes these days so that’s great. Just as in with cars, sometimes you get so much more in the car with a certain manufacturer than you would with another. A good example there is Skoda and Audi, the prestige is different but they are the same company, and slide gives way more for the price than Audi.
