I think the only option I’d get is the Bose audio. So the price would be $100k. Which is enough! But the GTS Cayman and GTS Boxster is better ...as a daily ...but a huge “yes” to Guards Red! Best bang for the buck, IMO.
This NA 4.0 is a 992 derived motor with the turbos removed. Not the famed GT3 high revving edition. Unfortunately the exhaust system has the dreaded PF so the sound is greatly muted. I think the 718 GTS 4.0 is the sweet spot now.
@@jeebus2121 Per another video by a Porsche shop guy it's officially said to have a ppf, but in reality it has the piping and the housing without the actual filter. Should be much less impact on the sound, although you could still make improvements by bending the pipes differently in its absence.
I have looked very seriously at Porsche (actually have owned one) I agree this 718 GT4 just might be the best 6 figure Porsche for the money. I have a couple of problems with the car. One is that I think it's about $30,000 over priced. In fact, if the price were fair I might be driving one today. Second is I love a V8. And the GTW4 is a bit too slow for the $$. So I opted for the new mid-engine. Corvette. I can have a very nicely equipped one for under 80k. I get a beautiful interior, DCT, 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds, Driving modes, magnetic ride control, cameras front and rear. Nav,/track display on a large screen and an amazing camera rear view mirror, less expensive maintenance bills, and more. But I really enjoyed your review. Thanks!
When you realize the GT4’s seats alone cost more than the NB 1999 Miata I just purchased. Agree, affording to 1. buy vs 2. track a GT4 are two different categories of affordability.
I track my 981 GT4 and it's great! I get what you mean because I don't drive it like I do my dedicated track s2000. I'm more carefree on a less expensive vehicle when running close to walls on some tracks.
Enjoy your particular style of presentation. Subscribed because YOU are a petrol-head and animal lover. Just saw your video about distress caused by fireworks to pets. $6000 Sport Bucket 918 spyder seats will always be worth the money as are the $8000 PCCB option in the GT4. You can actually sell them off the car when new for much more than the $14000 combined bargain option price as if you were to try to get the replacement parts aftermarket the PCCBs costs $30,000 and the seats must be more than $6000 a pair.
I am really really really happy the GT4 and Spyder are now available in PDK! With no use of my left leg it would be a bitch to drive a manual now like I did when I owned a 2002 Boxster S
Selling the 993T was a good choice if the point was to get a track car instead. 993Ts aren't the most track suited car and abusing one like that is kinda hard to justify on a classic anyways. The GT4 will be a more enjoyable track experience , and no doubt a faster one as well.
I've owned a GT4 for four months now and I'm afraid to park it. I come out of Dairy Queen with my Blizzard and there are four people taking pictures of it. It draws a crowd.
Good review. I have a 993 Turbo in G Red! BUT I need a track car. Hence it's likely to be a GT4 as it is a great bang for your bucks. GT3's are expensive for the average joe blow to drive (even really well). As for the seats, without doubt you need the track seats (road or track). GTS is here now, but whilst it has the 4.0 engine it does not drive the same and doesn't look any where near as good.
Motoman. I’d still take a 718 Spyder 7 days a week and twice on Sunday over the hard top GT4. And I am NOT a convertible lover. The Spyder is just Oh So Perfect!!! My 2 cents.
I agree, so much so I’ve ordered a 2021 Spyder. I should pick it up in January. However, I ordered the PDK 😱. My last 3 new Porsche’s have been PDK, the classic SC fulfills my 3 peddle needs 😎. I appreciate the additional torque, the higher locking specs on the manual diff and the .5 second improvement in acceleration. This is absolutely the best bang for your Porsche buck.
Looking forward to your review of the GTS 4.0. I'm thinking that will be the sweet spot for a (mostly) road car versus a (mostly) track car. Although, I'm waiting for it in the PDK to eliminate the issues with the tall second gear and to be able to relax in big city traffic for the day-to-day without giving up TOO much on the weekends.
What a cool review George! Will there be one more Cayman / Boxter NA with manual? Unfortunately I doubt it. This one is to buy and to keep. The last of the breed.
Something tells me Porsche is making too much money on this whole 'NA + Manual Transmission' craze that they won't put it out to pasture . . . at least just yet.
The formula of 4.0 NA Flat 6, mid-engine, and 6sp manual is simply irresistible. Some minor details I dislike: alcantara, nylon door handles, and huge rear wing. Motoman, I can’t disagree this is Porsche’s sweet spot!
