Im just sayin that I personally don't feel anything from his playing. Liker there's no heart in it. Coltrane had A LOT of heart in his playing, and his runs were more like layers of sound that worked with the music he played.
This is more of an exception what I think of James Morrison's playing. Albeit, the solo is mostly high up there and can come off as flashy. However, this is only one clip of him. Out of the countless others I've listened to, I would say that I think he is one of the more sincere and lyrical players I've listened to, on most instruments I've heard him play. This song kind of evokes that flashy quality a bit. The way I see it, this song asks for a flashy screamer and I think James' musicality made him aware of this; that's why he did it.
I want to like morrison, but idk..im missing something from him. Like I dont feel any true emotions from him except for "listen to me, im awsome, hear how high and fast i can play". He sounds almost cocky to me. Instead of playing phrases that make you think he just decides to rush into runs and screaming. Where is the heart?
Certainement un des meilleurs clips jazz de l'année !
You can tell he is not cocky at all by how he speaks.
Great composition!! 5+
@woboin - his name is Phil Stack. He's pretty well known in Australia. He also plays in the Australian rock band called "Thirsty Merc".
