My absolute favorite thing about these books is that they aren't illustrated versions of the Potter MOVIES. As in, the illustrations don't look exactly like the movie sets. The paintings of the characters don't look like the actors who played them. These are very much illustrations of the BOOKS, and I love that.
The only thing I expected to be different was the uniforms. In the books, robes are like a nightgown that you slip over your head; there's no white shirt, tie, or pants. I was kind of hoping to see that interpretation.
That is exactly why I love these illustrated books by Jim Kay because they don't remind me of the films. And because of this I have just started to read the hp books for the first time (illustrated versions Jim Kay). I have seen all the films but never was interested in reading the books after seeing the films as they just reminded me of the films to much. But now with Jim Kay illustrating the books it gives a whole new standalone to the books which completely separates the books from the films visually.
When Mr. Kay brought out several sheets of concept art, as an amateur artist, tears filled my eyes. I had to pause and gaze at each masterpiece. To Bloomsbury Publishing, thank you so much for this lovely video.
Such beautiful work. It belongs in a museum. Sculptor, illustrator and painter. What can't Mr. Kay do? I just found this. I read the series when it first came out and did not know there was an illustrated version until I watched the Sorcerer's/ Philosopher's Stone read on Wizarding World. Such beautiful illustrations. The first thing I thought when I saw the Diagon Alley illustration was that it would make a great puzzle!
the work is stunning. I was so impressed that Jim Kay's imagination could find independent images for the story. My favourite is the portrait of Harry, the sadness. And I love the image of Dumbledore and Harry talking about the Mirror of Erised.
I'm an old school graphic artist/illustrator, seduced by digital techniques Your lovely wee film has inspired me to dig out my pencils, brushes again Fantastic insight into your work, Jim Thanx so much
I just bought the book Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. There are so many beautiful illustrations created by Jim Kay. I totally love them. Please keep working on the next one. BTW, I'm a big fan of yours from TAIWAN.
You Sir Kay, is a phenomenal artist! Your artworks, they're stunning. I'm a young illustrator, who was inspired by your dedication to do great things and encouraging us young artists, to love our craft no matter what obstacles we might face in our journey ahead. Hoping to meet you and learn personally from you, Thanks for bringing back Harry Potter to a fresher new life! :) Can't wait for your rendition on the Chamber of Secrets. Best of luck from the Philippines.
OUT OF THIS WORLD TALENT!✨ Thanm you for sharing it with us, Jim Kay! It is sooo relaxing to watch this, you have such a naturally relaxed and in tuned with nature environment. Lovely✨
His books & illustrations are gorgeous!!!! The Harry Potter's are absolutely my all time favorite, can't wait to see the next!!! Absolutely love your work JIM KAY GREAT ARTWORK!!!!!!!💜💚💓
I got a copy for Christmas, and I'm still noticing details and subtleties that I missed before. Each time I look, there's something more to see! I love it, and I can't wait to see the next book... :)
To Jim Kay, I know you were suffering so much because I liked Harry Potter and illustrations, I'm sorry I asked you to do another one thank you for doing it and suffering for me
Que increíble que haga maquetas para ilustrar, que hermoso!! Me encanta cuando hace retratos de los personajes, y en mis favoritas también están los dragones.
Jim, you`re so damn great that i can`t find words to describe it! your work and your way of working inspires so much i hope to be at least 1/10 as good as you one day.
Inspirational sir - I've been a frustrated illustrator for years and seeing your work and reading your friendly and sensible advice has given me the push I need... thank you. Wishing you the best of success for the future B :)
I absolutely love Jim Kay’s illustrations of the Harry Potter books. I already have all three of them and I keep re-reading them. I hope he’ll do the goblets of fire aswell.
An excepcional work, Jim. I love every single detail of your draws. I would like to have right now one of those beautiful books you have been working on. Congrats, and a huge hug.
best TH-cam video ive seen in a while, just starting out in the world of illustration. if anyone in the comment section sees this can you drop your favourite illustrators from TH-cam or twitch so i can look at their videos. thanks in advance :)
I love the train design! A different approach rather than looking similar to regular train or the one on the films. Fantastic work on the Spiders. Your workd are PHENOMENAL! It amazes most that you do it on paper which is harder or should I say more challenging. And even make model that adds to the challenge but we're as he said very helpful. I could just imagine how JK Rowling excitement and amazement about thoe when finally presented to her.
Just heard Jim Kay has stepped down from Harry Potter book 6 and 7. But it’s all right, he had to put his health first. Just like with Chris Columbus on stepping away from the world of Harry Potter. Jim kay had to put his health first, good luck Jim Kay, thanks for working so hard on Harry Potter book 1 to 5.
I loved the illustrated Philosophers stone even after I've read the novel quite a lot. It made it feel fresh again. Not saying that it isn't always. But one question, what would be the next release date?
Order of the phoenix comes out next year in 2022 (there was some delayed so he couldn't release it this year). Then he only has 2 more books in the series to illustrate which are half blood prince (book 6), and then the final book Deathly Hallows (book 7) so his almost there in completing the series.
Will it be seven years to have all books released because I am already thinking how to buy year by year or be gifted with the box set they come up with???
The one thing I don't like is that he illustrated the same hogwarts uniform as movies..I thought he did add his own imagination and book description to that .Except that everything was perfect
This Harry Potter Series illustrated by Jim kay will be completed? Or it ends at book 4? Cause I've bought the first 3 and I really wanted the complete set, the illustrations are amazing!
I'm guessing you mean the winged boar - the books mention statues of winged boars at the entrance gates to Hogwarts. It looks like he's taken from that and made the winged boar a symbol of Hogwarts. Not sure about the palm trees though lol
I wish I were able to write him a fan letter. I can’t find any PO box and I’m trying to get him to come to my college. We have a once a year special where we were funded to have a famous artist come and spend the week with us. Be a dream for him to come!

A trick: you can watch movies at flixzone. Me and my gf have been using them for watching all kinds of movies lately.
@Bentley Isaiah Yea, been watching on Flixzone} for months myself =)

I could seriously watch this for hours. So calming and inspiring...
J.K. Rowling and Jim Kay are absolutely fantastic

I enjoy the illustrations it's a perfection of what I was visualizing in my head in the original copy. Worth the money excited for next book
To Jim Kay, I know you were suffering so much because I liked Harry Potter and illustrations, I'm sorry I asked you to do another one thank you for doing it and suffering for me
An incredibly talented man.
Thank you sir! You have made my childhood come to life once again, thank you!
You’re already one of my favorite illustrators.
Artist life goals. The studio looks amazing!

Really inspiring and beautiful
Amazing extraordinary talent!!😊😊😊
Very inspiring and personal insight of your work. Thank you for this. Your imaginary perspective works very well with the Harry Potter universe.
Incredible. So much patience!
Fantastic! What a talent!

Maravilloso trabajo en definitiva.
you are my creative hero!
Extremly inspiring. Everything in the video it is exactly how I dream it for myself...
I’ve always wondered how he could have captured such exactness of a creature or vastness of an environment. Models are such a good idea!!!
I hope Jim Kay comes back to finish books 6 and 7, his art style is gorgeous
He also illustrates a fantastic book called a monster calls by Patrick Ness
Ridiculously talented man. Jealous.
Yes
Agreed
Love this guy!!
Yay!!! Jim is my uncle!
I love this man
Alesya Crocodile and who doesn't? I started reading harry potter thanks to him
same
That was magical. Thank you!
Fascinating and magical ... :3
I loved the illustrated Philosophers stone even after I've read the novel quite a lot. It made it feel fresh again. Not saying that it isn't always. But one question, what would be the next release date?
It's like he's in the Wizarding World in real life. What an amazing studio.
What an amazing, and wonderful video. WOW! Thank you for sharing. =)
Soooo Coool!!)) Thank you!!
Does somebody know if Jim is going to work on "...the half blood prince" and "...deathly hallows"?
He is doing all books. We just need patience

Very cool! Can't wait for chamber of secrets! I'm a huge Harry Potter fan! ❤️
Hello, how may I purchase some of your work larger individual prints?
He is so talented and i hope he draw more sirius black. 'cause in goblet of fire there was too much sirius black but jim kay never draw him
Lovely vid
Will it be seven years to have all books released because I am already thinking how to buy year by year or be gifted with the box set they come up with???
Will there be a pop-up book with your artwork?
I pray that you find health and peace, Mr. Kay.
My favourite artist
Hi, differences between deluxe edition?
I'm scared of spiders though... don't make them too realistic :P
💜✨
His dog passed... sorry for loss.
is he going to illustrate all harry potter books?
yes,slowly but surely?
what paints do you use?
The one thing I don't like is that he illustrated the same hogwarts uniform as movies..I thought he did add his own imagination and book description to that .Except that everything was perfect

He will illustrate all 7.
Dude, you sound like Newt Scamander!
I love you and I would like to marry you!
seeing this made me depressed.... why cant i draw like this
I'm a bit stumped by the appearance of a flying pig though, for example on the Hogwarts Express. How did that get there? With palm trees?
I'm guessing you mean the winged boar - the books mention statues of winged boars at the entrance gates to Hogwarts. It looks like he's taken from that and made the winged boar a symbol of Hogwarts. Not sure about the palm trees though lol
I'm in love with you.
