I was performing Tank Park Salute at a folk club open night. Had been practising it for ages with no issues. On stage with the audience tuned in. It was like I was reading the lyrics for the first time, and towards the end of the song I legged it off the stage in tears. 😳🙄😳 Love your work Billy.

This carries the hallmark of every great song: it requires only one listen to fall in love with it. It doesn't need to grow on you. God bless you, Mr. Billy Bragg. Were this the only song you'd ever written, I would still call you a genius, but there were many more great songs from you.
It was actually Waiting for the great leap forwards that made me want the album.When I heard the rest,I was blown away.My roomate said that it sounded like he was deliberately adding the english accent to songs.

Why would he need to be "adding" an English accent when he is English?? I saw Billy Bragg back at the Dome in Brighton in 1990 with the Beatnigs and Michelle Shocked. Frikking great.
+loquaciousbunny It seems like he adds that working class London accent. He doesn't do it on all songs, e.g. Sugar Daddy, The Space Race Is Over. On those songs he has a more neutral (closer to the BBC) accent.
Charles Gervasi i think its more likely he is making a conscious effort to make his accent more neutral in those songs. I'm pretty sure he's from Dagenham and sounds quite working class in interviews.
