Billy Bragg does write some hard hitting political songs, but he also writes sweetly and heartbreaking ly at times about love. There's an argument to say that love is politics but that's another conversation! I've had the pleasure to meet Billy a couple of times, when I was living in the UK we were in the same area. He was always friendly, welcoming, and happy for a chat. Great musician and person!
I used to listen to this album all the time back in the day. Billy Bragg has so many good songs. Johnny Marr played guitar on “Greetings to the New Brunette.” “Tank Park Salute” is a real tearjerker.
Hi Shawn, I agree with the comment from Music Addict, Back to Basics is a great place to start, its a compilation of his first two albums plus the Between The Wars EP and take it from there. Overall I would say my favourite album is 1991's Dont Try This At Home but but none of them are bad.
Thanks! i just recalled that listening to an etire Billy album often was too much for me back then, regardless of how individually brilliant the songs were. A bit like listening to a full Green Day album when my then 14-years old daughter selected the music on a road trip. No cther comparison between the artists intended. But you should try some of the earlier songs like "Greetings to a new brunette", "Between the wars" and "Milkman of human kindness".
Shawn, I too have heard of this artist but not familiar with his music. You are right, this song is simple and clean in it;s music. Very nice piano throughout the song. Straightforward lyrics about relationships. You are right that many have experienced the lyrical message. I agree this sounds like good songwriting. Your rating of 7.5 is accurate. My rating is a 7.25, close to your score.
Just love this simple, beautiful song about the pain of a break up. I love the direct, sincere delivery Billy pulls off.
So agree! Thanks Anna!
Billy Bragg One of my all-time favorites with a find your channel is love you

Will check it out, have a Bragg top 10 up that was excellent as well. Thanks Art! Hope the Costanza is working hard for you!
Another good bit of Billy after the top 10. Particularly loved the piano, it wasn't anything too flashy but was just perfect for the song.
Agreed! Thanks Joseph!
