haha, not only the reboot final; I'd say also it's predecessor. Is the game entertaining? Sure I love it! As a game it's fine; but as a tombraider.... the original had the house for a reason, so you could learn the gameplay there; they didn't constantly bother you with a jump that was just a bit more difficult then just hitting space bar, even till the very end of the game... and for puzzles? No need to think, just hit Q and you get in focus mode, it will highlight exactly how to solve the puzzle; that's if you didn't get it from just looking around as the clues are waaaay too simple. The only interesting puzzle that I ACTUALLY needed to solve was the safe in Croft Manor of Rise. Like wow, that was interesting; puzzles that you actually needed to solve with the gathered items and figuring out their clues... you know, like former TR games... but I guess that's way too much to ask for today's gamer; only good for an Easter egg in additional content, coz you know, to actually use your brain for once... imagine that. And the graphics.... yeah okay they were extraordinary for it's time but practically Unreal engine 5 is a game-changer that we haven't seen since tombraider introduced the 3D environment from the at the time boring 2D 'platform' games. (yo :) , I'm the creator of this video) Video reviews are not really my thing to be honest. I can write them, but I don't like the idea of doing multiple instances of the same type of video. This one was more of a one-off kind of deal. What I'm thinking is maybe I could put together a (dramatic :D ) Deus Ex retrospective, a "TR classics vs LAU vs Reboot" ( the one I made months ago ( th-cam.com/video/MPZPLGBZtAk/w-d-xo.html ) was rushed as hell ) and a "what's next for TR?" , although this last idea wouldn't make much sense without something new to work on, a teaser or something.
This was perfect, thanks for the video. The only reason why I left tutorial hints enabled was because this game was a total mess, so I didn´t want to get stuck on stupid things, like when you have to kick the raft wtf!. Also, most puzzles end goal was never clear enough, so I ended up moving things just to see what happened. The light based puzzle was the best IMO.
Thank you SO MUCH for saved me to waste my time on it. Now I decided not to play Shadow. I enjoyed a lot the 2013 reboot but since Rice my interest on the next games was dramatically decreased. I just tired up of hearing her yelling, crying, getting hurt, yelling again, acting like crazy or in a non sense way... upset of her. I miss so much the real strong, charismatic, powerful, badass Lara 😔
Hey , great video. I wonder if you made this channel only to rant about this game cause I understand if you did. I also came looking for rants after I played this game as it was added on the game pass recently.
People claim God of war 2018, why that's called god of war when there's no god of war involved I'll never know, is game of the year for 2018 yet what does that game have in at least 90% of the experience? Mandatory walking, or rowing story segments. Hurray!!! I really hate those segments. Give me a cutscene or gameplay but not a walking segment.
@@IRXCER2013's story was more engaging in my opinion, but yeah Rise has way for replay value, especially the Endurance mode and Chapter Replay challenges.
That's a very good video and i agree with everything you said. AAA gaming has been terrible for some time now. Developers need to start creating more consistent experiences. Just pick one thing and stick with. As a classic Tomb Raider fan it is laughable seeing what Square Enix has done to this franchise. Absolute disgrace.
I’m sure you appreciated the remastered. I actually got to experience 1 & 3 for the 1st time. I saw some reviews of last revelation and I really hope they make a remaster for it
The worst part of the reboot trilogy for me personally was the combat so the fact that this one has the least amount of it makes me want to give it a go (despite the fact, like you said the game is always incentivising the player for it). Great video lad keep it up!
Soooo basically this game is like the previous one. Where i basically only used my Climbing Axe to fight. And eventually just quit. I just could not handle the battle anymore, nor the story. The worst insult was that ridiculous upgrade system requiring a shit ton of resources but then giving you limited pockets to carry. It just felt like one slow tedious grind..and for nothing..
It makes me sad to see what happened to this series. It's just uncharted now. The interesting exploration, music and puzzles (point of the game in my opinion) traded in for shallow uncharted action garbage because that's what all the kiddies like. No depth or difficulty, no atmosphere. All gone. Underworld was my favorite and I feel like the series had moved away from everything I liked about it. Not to mention the spell it out for me button (survival insinct)
Absolutely love the classics and the first 2 games of the reboot I just beat shadow today just to get it over with And the story makes no sense to me and bringing jonah around with her everywhere was just stupid and that cheesy cringey ending almost made me throw up. I really wanted to like this game but everything felt like a waste of time....similar to The last of us 2 At least I beat it I guess but I won't be playing this game again anytime soon. 4.5/10 for me
I agree so much with most of what you're saying... I don't understand how people can praise this game... I'm also a fan of the early Tomb Raider, and I was disappointed by the first game in the reboot, but then I played Rise of Tomb raider and it wasn't bad, so I was exited to play this one, I bought it last year and I still didn't finish it... would rather spend hours cleaning my house than play... but I have to finish it.. hopefully this weekend...
2013 was a great game that executed badly lots of stuff, but at least was coherent with itself and finally gave Lara he pistols at the end with the iconic shot (it felt as a real character development) Rise was great, arguably better, but still had menus that were trash from an ergonomic point of view and more or so the same gameplay, not to mention that the character paths of Lara were somehow forgotten and she didn't had the dual pistols.
I replayed the first two, cuz I legit enjoyed them. Shadow looks pretty, but I can't bring myself to replay after the third time. I haven't bothered with all the DLCs cuz I don't care.
dude now that the new Tomb Raider is coming out by Embracer group ppl and devs need to see this! been like 9 years that im saying Tomb Raider Reboot is more like a third person shooter game instead of the Puzzle Platforming Adventure which it used to be! im dying to see the new tomb raider be more like AT LEAST Tomb Raider Anniversary if they r not planning on bringing back the 90s formula with more smooth controls!
I'm glad other people recognize how bland and boring this game is. Easy puzzles a child could solve, even on hard. Stiff combat with bad gunplay, dumb enemy ai, worthless perk upgrades that you do not need and are fine without, a linear journey with the disguise of an open world, mindless crafting and collecting, nonsensical and inconsequential story, and that uncharted style "platforming" where you're basically just unwinding animations. It's like a hodgepodge of all the boring and repetitive trends of modern games
Also yes the game keeps trying to imply or force you into stealth but it's absolutely unnecessary, you can mow down enemies no problem at all. I'm at least 5 or 6 hours into the game and I have never used a healing items (hard mode)
Only four minutes in but I literally have that issue. See, I love stealth missions, so of course when it was implied you could do stealth mode, I did. Or rather, I tried, because most of the time I came to the same conclusion as in the video, and was either spotted and had to fight anyways or there was no clear stealth path and I had to fight as well.
i was just playing this shit on pc, i though i was the only one, this game is pure shit, jonah is just a useless piece of shit, also they remove the booty view, the map sucks!!, the story sucks, the gameplay is weak, even playing the hardest, they destroy the franchise. and the fucking tribe, peruvian woman in the tribes are not realistic, the towns they are,,,fuck man im gonna stop now. edit: man fucking good video!! keep doing this.
I just like exploring the map's just for the visuals why a brought the game as it's not my type of game i would want to play over again theirs no point i am a first person shooter only when there's a game with good visuals and is like a doom game
This game is beautiful and enjoyable - I played it twice - but SO problematic and flawed. It is 'the white saviour: the game' where you are actually playing a villain where it is clear mroe than ever Lara Croft is a rich girl raging psychopath stealing other people's shit. If they wanted her to be good, to grow and change, it would have been better to make this game a bit more like Metal Gear Solid V and give you the option to go Rambo, to be a stealthy killer, or to have non-lethal stealth takedown options. The latter would show Lara showing some atonement for unleashing the apocalypse and also could influence the ending by influencing how Trinity see her as in 'she's scary but she's not killing us, what's up with that?' and allowing everyone to grow and change. BUT NOPE!
I miss being able to do back flips and somersaults Now its this weird crawl on the ground before a stiff roll lol also the animations for parkour are weaker compared to Legends and especially Underworld. So much more weight and impact on the older ones. The worst is when Lara goes to swing on a Pole in the new games or jumps from one ledge to another. God it's the most ugly animations for parkour i've ever seen in my life in AAA game let alone any game tbh lol I still did oddly enjoy Lara as a character. Especially in Shadow when she stopped Whiny so much compared to Rise.
Each "character" in this game is like a chalk screeching over a blackboard... the only thing that barely makes it worth playing are the challenge tombs. Even the main story absolutely wastes a heavily potential setting by just pandering about Lara.
1 minute and 25 seconds exactly and I can't tolerate anymore of this shitty review. The robotic voice is the most annoying thing I've ever heard. Lol I stuck it out as long as I could to hear the complaints but I couldn't take it anymore. Btw the game was awesome. I've played Tomb Raider also since the beginning of Tomb Raider in 1996 and I gotta say this one felt more like the original generation. Even more so if you get the "definitive edition". Alot of extra stuff plus time trials where you have to shimmy through at the right timing or you'll die type deal. I was impressed with the game and looking forward to the future of the survivor time line. According to the creators they plan to unify the classic version and new version so it should be quite epic
The robotic voice may be annoying, but it tells the truth. It felt nothing like a real TR, the exploration is now reduced to uninteresting opened zones, with easy puzzles and an oversimplified gameplay. It's not only that, but also a bad game.
Come on, everybody knows the PS1 games, which AOD wasn't apart of, are the true classics. I know AOD has its fans but it's horrible compared to the PS1 games (and the LAU games if you ask me)
Honestly, while the gameplay of 2013 and Rise kept me invested more or less, Shadow's abismal story and Lara kept me from enjoying most of it. Lara in the reboot is so whiny and doesn't change as a character across the trilogy. Need I remind you Shadow was supposed to show how she becomes the Lara we know and love. Well? I don't see any plastic surgery, do you? Hell, not even bahonkadonkoros could save her garbage personality and fake accent. Get the trilogy in a cheap bundle on your console or computer of choice and try to enjoy it.
I love how this reviewer states that they prefer the classics(tr 1 2 and 3 etc) then criticised shadow of the tomb raider for it's lack of combat. Like the classics were swarming with waves of enemies. What A hypocrite!!!!! I'd like to see you and all the 10 year olds who wrote negative comments come up with something better. Actually I'd rather not!!!
1) the video does not criticize Shadow for the lack of combat, but rather for the jarring contrast between the mechanics it has and said lack of combat. 10:17 2) Less combat isn't what defines classic Tomb Raider : what you do when you're not fighting is. If you take combat away from a classic TR game, you still left with a consistent, engaging and challenging game, cause each level was the puzzle, the maze to solve, full of traps and hazards. Does Shadow have that? No. It's one giant map where everything is decorative. If you have no interest in generic collectibles or don't wanna deal with lame quests where all you do is talk to one guy, then find the other guy then go back to the first guy, this game got nothing.
It is not an opinion, it's a fact. The game is a buggy walking simulator with 60% of side stuff being either completely useless or boring, an awful gameplay (limited move pool and lacks of agility which force the devs to tone down the epciness of some fights) with a crazily bad A.I, an unrecognasible and annoying Lara.
thx for vid , i was bored and almost bought this game.... uff....

Wow, we have a badass real gamer over here. Puzzles in games are not meant to be puzzling. They are designed to break up the gameplay sections and make the player feel somewhat smart and accomplished within 5 minutes. Obviously aiming with mouse and keyboard trivializes the combat encounteres in a game primarily designed for consoles. Side missions and collectibles primarily are supposed to immerse the player in the fictional world. So what if they don’t end up making you stronger in combat. They are supposed to be intrinsically rewarding, not extrinsic chores to grow bigger muscles. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is a stunningly beautiful and atmospheric experience if you accept it for what it is.
"It is what it is" can't be an excuse for lame game design. There's a clear difference between impossible puzzles (which no one wants), balanced and intuitive puzzles that require intuition and compelling exploration, and puzzles like those in this game where you just need to stay in place and look for 2 pieces of wood to connect with a rope. Side missions in this game are lame, period. Talk to one person, then blindly follow the objective marker (since the mission log won't give you any direction and the hub has no landmarks, there goes your immersion) and talk to the other person or kill 3 guys, with nothing to stop you in the process. Hardly riveting.

@Bloody Pulp Dude, it’s not a puzzle game like The Witness or Call of the Sea. It’s more like the puzzles in Uncharted. If that’s not what your looking for other genres might be better suited for you but it doesn’t mean SotTR is bad.
@ the puzzles are bad cause they solve by themselves. Bad optional puzzles don't make for a bad game of course, but the point is that the campaign is bad AND puzzles are bad too. Proving that puzzle aren't bad does absolutely nothing to redeem the rest of the game.
@ It's not a puzzle game, but what's the point of putting them if their only purpose is slow the pacing and straight out taking the player as a idiot? The game is stunningly atmospheric? Are you kidding me? Half of what Lara says or does is either incredibly annoying or straight out doesn't make any sense, the people you encounters have 0 interactions outside of scripted stuff and there's a camera movement or a godammn tutorial every 10 seconds to tell you stuff even before you can figure them out.
@I’m guessing you never played TR on ps1. Those were filled with challenging puzzles. Platforming, exploration and puzzle solving have always been the main 3 elements of TR
It’s not that bad. Everyone’s just jumping on this train because it followed up one of the best tomb raider games ever and was just fine. It’s not a BAD game like everyone makes it out.
1) Rise wasn't one of the best TR, it had a badly executed tentative to mix adventure with survival, didn't acknolegd Lara's character path without bringing her dual pistols teased in TR, a non-ergonomic interface and a copy-paste of the previous game gameplay wise (without the parkour, which was pretty fun in the slum). Not even talking about the boss fight, one of the lamest ever. 2) Yes, this game is this bad because it's a triple a and needs to be critiqued as such. Nothing but a walking simulator that believe your an idiot with half the content being either boring or straight out useless (in every way), with an out-dated gameplay and level design.

I finally beat it the other day, but, I nearly died of stress, and there's no doubt, that will have shortened my life span by at least a few years. Oh and hello TRF, I've started my own TR Forums, as competition to TRF, and its gonna be fantastic, I am using software that is way more up to date, than Justin's. It's not ready yet, but, I'm getting there slowly, but surely that's all I can say for now, have a rather splendid day readers.
Why don't you review more games this way ?
(yo :) , I'm the creator of this video)
Video reviews are not really my thing to be honest.
@@point-bl4nk sad to hear, this video is hilarious and your editing and music choices are on point
The light based puzzle was the best IMO.
this format is hilarious
Thank you SO MUCH for saved me to waste my time on it. Now I decided not to play Shadow. I enjoyed a lot the 2013 reboot but since Rice my interest on the next games was dramatically decreased. I just tired up of hearing her yelling, crying, getting hurt, yelling again, acting like crazy or in a non sense way... upset of her. I miss so much the real strong, charismatic, powerful, badass Lara 😔
HOW DO YOU ONLY HAVE 130 SUBS????
Because he only uploaded one video
Hey , great video. I wonder if you made this channel only to rant about this game cause I understand if you did. I also came looking for rants after I played this game as it was added on the game pass recently.
Lmao SoTR is pretty bad agreed
People claim God of war 2018, why that's called god of war when there's no god of war involved I'll never know, is game of the year for 2018 yet what does that game have in at least 90% of the experience? Mandatory walking, or rowing story segments. Hurray!!! I really hate those segments. Give me a cutscene or gameplay but not a walking segment.
Was it the “last of us” that started the walking segments trend ?
The tomb raider game for the ps3 and Xbox 360 was definitely the best for combat and stealth. But the tombs were still super easy.
Great video! Now I want one for TR2013 and one for Rise.
TR2013 is the bestttttttttt. They should have left it there.
@@MajorPaneIntl rise>2013
@@IRXCER2013's story was more engaging in my opinion, but yeah Rise has way for replay value, especially the Endurance mode and Chapter Replay challenges.
@@IRXCER
Rethinking about it, NO.
This gives me a mini astro soup vibe
That's a very good video and i agree with everything you said. AAA gaming has been terrible for some time now. Developers need to start creating more consistent experiences. Just pick one thing and stick with. As a classic Tomb Raider fan it is laughable seeing what Square Enix has done to this franchise. Absolute disgrace.
I’m sure you appreciated the remastered. I actually got to experience 1 & 3 for the 1st time. I saw some reviews of last revelation and I really hope they make a remaster for it
The people who made this game hate Lara Croft.
Shawn Elliott calls this "No Gamer Left Behind" design.
This was well put together, you should make more videos
It makes me sad to see what happened to this series. It's just uncharted now. The interesting exploration, music and puzzles (point of the game in my opinion) traded in for shallow uncharted action garbage because that's what all the kiddies like. No depth or difficulty, no atmosphere. All gone. Underworld was my favorite and I feel like the series had moved away from everything I liked about it. Not to mention the spell it out for me button (survival insinct)
Underworld was a weak TR overall, i'd say even more than 2013.
This is a great review. I hope you make more !!
Deleted this game twice and don't intend installing it again. It's useless piece and waste of time.
Time to delete Tomb Raider and download Uncharted.
Absolutely love the classics and the first 2 games of the reboot
I just beat shadow today just to get it over with
And the story makes no sense to me and bringing jonah around with her everywhere was just stupid and that cheesy cringey ending almost made me throw up. I really wanted to like this game but everything felt like a waste of time....similar to The last of us 2
At least I beat it I guess but I won't be playing this game again anytime soon.
4.5/10 for me
TLOU part 2 at least offered us an out-dated but polished and profound gameplay with great AI from the enemies and a good pool of enemies.
2013 was a great game that executed badly lots of stuff, but at least was coherent with itself and finally gave Lara he pistols at the end with the iconic shot (it felt as a real character development)
Rise was great, arguably better, but still had menus that were trash from an ergonomic point of view and more or so the same gameplay, not to mention that the character paths of Lara were somehow forgotten and she didn't had the dual pistols.
Couldn’t agree more.
I replayed the first two, cuz I legit enjoyed them. Shadow looks pretty, but I can't bring myself to replay after the third time. I haven't bothered with all the DLCs cuz I don't care.
that's a lot of times!
I think the DLC tombs worth it a play.
That mission where stealth was kind of mandatory, i just openly slapped them with the axe XD rambo gang
10/10 for Lara'a outfits.
Honestly, that's count. 😌👍
I own it for my PS4 but I can’t tell if it sucks cuz it crashes every time I try to install it.
dude now that the new Tomb Raider is coming out by Embracer group ppl and devs need to see this! been like 9 years that im saying Tomb Raider Reboot is more like a third person shooter game instead of the Puzzle Platforming Adventure which it used to be! im dying to see the new tomb raider be more like AT LEAST Tomb Raider Anniversary if they r not planning on bringing back the 90s formula with more smooth controls!
Best review by far
In fact I forgot there even were healing items until the game randomly reminded me for some reason hours later
So used to be dumped somewhere and left to get on an figure out and do it my way...
Hated every minute of the 4 hours I played.... so borrring!!!
I really don’t like any Tomb Raider after that reboot one that made it play like Uncharted. Except it’s watered down. Don’t like it
Only four minutes in but I literally have that issue. See, I love stealth missions, so of course when it was implied you could do stealth mode, I did. Or rather, I tried, because most of the time I came to the same conclusion as in the video, and was either spotted and had to fight anyways or there was no clear stealth path and I had to fight as well.
Stealth is good, if handled properly.
@@quentinhirschfeld9382 100% agree, I really love sltealth missions if they're well done
Beautiful... and true af.
Nice vid
i was just playing this shit on pc, i though i was the only one, this game is pure shit, jonah is just a useless piece of shit, also they remove the booty view, the map sucks!!, the story sucks, the gameplay is weak, even playing the hardest, they destroy the franchise. and the fucking tribe, peruvian woman in the tribes are not realistic, the towns they are,,,fuck man im gonna stop now.
edit: man fucking good video!! keep doing this.
BUT NOPE!
Uncharted 4 is 10 times better than this repetitive overpriced crap
@Tiredofdumbfuks hell no
Uncharted 4 is even worse, it has some of the similar problems this game does
Uncharted 4 is dead. RIP indiana jones ripoff
agreed with all of this 😅 games a waste of time
The ending of this game is dog shit
I miss being able to do back flips and somersaults
Now its this weird crawl on the ground before a stiff roll lol also the animations for parkour are weaker compared to Legends and especially Underworld.
DUDE, this was hilarious! Loved it.
Hilarious kiu
Lack of combat ruined the game
Even with more, still sh*t
Rather play this than Witcher 3
The witcher 3 😍
Each "character" in this game is like a chalk screeching over a blackboard... the only thing that barely makes it worth playing are the challenge tombs. Even the main story absolutely wastes a heavily potential setting by just pandering about Lara.
Pandering about Lara......not a sentence.
According to the creators they plan to unify the classic version and new version so it should be quite epic
you are missing the point that interactive movie is as annoying as the robotic voice.
The robotic voice may be annoying, but it tells the truth.
It felt nothing like a real TR, the exploration is now reduced to uninteresting opened zones, with easy puzzles and an oversimplified gameplay.
It's not only that, but also a bad game.
Saaaaaam! 😂
Great video
Good video
Very fun review lol
I bought all and they sit there because Borden trash
Prfers the classics but leaves out TR AOD😭😭
Come on, everybody knows the PS1 games, which AOD wasn't apart of, are the true classics. I know AOD has its fans but it's horrible compared to the PS1 games (and the LAU games if you ask me)
Lol this was creatively hilarious. I'm gonna go ahead and say it for you Rise is better than Shadow
Shadow was still by far the best TR game of the Reboot Trilogy in my opinion
lol
What the hell?
I love how this reviewer states that they prefer the classics(tr 1 2 and 3 etc) then criticised shadow of the tomb raider for it's lack of combat. Like the classics were swarming with waves of enemies. What A hypocrite!!!!! I'd like to see you and all the 10 year olds who wrote negative comments come up with something better. Actually I'd rather not!!!
1) the video does not criticize Shadow for the lack of combat, but rather for the jarring contrast between the mechanics it has and said lack of combat. 10:17
2) Less combat isn't what defines classic Tomb Raider : what you do when you're not fighting is.
Minimalist gameplay in a game!!!
Linear and without any freedom!!!
QTEs need to die a slow painful DEATH!!!
POV: You haven't listened to the video
"Shadow of the Tomb Raider was created by a diverse team of multiple genders" Oh, you mean all two of them?
Agreed. I powered through this game without doing any side missions just for the sake of completing it, uninstalling and never touching it again.
The game was pretty good but we all have opinions so I respect you for yours
It is not an opinion, it's a fact.
The game is a buggy walking simulator with 60% of side stuff being either completely useless or boring, an awful gameplay (limited move pool and lacks of agility which force the devs to tone down the epciness of some fights) with a crazily bad A.I, an unrecognasible and annoying Lara.
Best game i hv ever played...
Most probably also the only game you ever played. lol
I loved Shadow of The Tomb Raider💙
Cringe
why didn't i watch this before i bought and played 10 hours of this
glad i rushed through the story instead of trying to do side content.
It's crap game got more puzzles that make brain dead Spence to many puzzle ruin game it's crap I had delete before fall sleep
thx for vid , i was bored and almost bought this game....
@
It's not a puzzle game, but what's the point of putting them if their only purpose is slow the pacing and straight out taking the player as a idiot?
The game is stunningly atmospheric? Are you kidding me? Half of what Lara says or does is either incredibly annoying or straight out doesn't make any sense, the people you encounters have 0 interactions outside of scripted stuff and there's a camera movement or a godammn tutorial every 10 seconds to tell you stuff even before you can figure them out.
@I’m guessing you never played TR on ps1. Those were filled with challenging puzzles. Platforming, exploration and puzzle solving have always been the main 3 elements of TR
This is just hate i i liked the game and ist not a bad game
Literally explains why the game isn't good (for an AAA) and as a Tomb Raider.
Listerners: ThIs Is JuSt HaTe
AI voice over sucks.
i hate this game, i prefer the first two!
