    34years as a marine engineer and I have just learned that dry fibreglass layup is caused by ‘fair wear and tear’ - every day is a school day.🤬 I take it this video is you upping the ante ever so slightly.😉 Hope things start moving soon on invoice payments (and communication). Good luck.😀👍⛵️⛵️

      It's amazing the mental gymnastics one can do rather than admit a screwup and make things right. The negative publicity costs would have easily covered replacing the yacht with a proper one when so many problems were initially discovered. Both Leopard and R&C may never recover from their arrogance, lack of quality control, extreme poor customer service and care for their customers' well being. Suppose these 3 had patched it up and sailed across the world, odds are it would be resting on the bottom and they'd hopefully been rescued at sea but maybe not. How many similar yachts are floating ... for now? Should I ever get the money for such a yacht, Leopard won't be on my list of potential brands.

    • @turipz
      @turipz หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      That's where we're all wrong on this - Leopard doesn't make theirs profits from selling you or me our dream boat at a rate of 10-20 a year, but rather from selling hundreds of cheap shit buckets to be used for charter for 5 years and then discarded by the charter companies at 30 cents on the dollar. And it seems obvious from what we see on all too many youtube channels of Leopard/R&C victims like this one, is that L/R&C are showing just that - they don't give a shit about the private owner. I'll bet you that these videos did not result in one single less L/R&C shit-boat being ordered by The Moorings and the other charter companies. That's why the assholes at L/R&C don't care.
      The only way to address this is not by causing L/R&C to not make private boat sale profit, as it is a drop in their shit-bucket - it's by making them LOSE their profits by having their victims sue the shit out of them. Especially if several owners (victims) get together and sue.

No manufacturer should be able to get away with this, its not just spoiling our fun its endangering our lives. I hope in times to come you are eventually rewarded with the adventure you deserve. When we bought our new production cat in 2000, we were fortunate to have relatively few issues, but in dealing with even those minor issues, our eyes were opened to the marine industry’s “buyer beware” attitude and policy. While I’m no fan of our legal system nor our litigious culture, as Americans, we are accustomed to a degree of legal recourse that apparently is not readily available elsewhere and made even more difficult across international borders. Fundamentally, the world in large part has drifted away from the concept of doing right simply because it’s right. I truly feel for you.

    I don't even know how start this comment. Some of the issues, being hidden and directly connected with floatability. Do these people just don't care about customer's lifes ? I wonder if similar deffects cause life loss ... Their customer service really in under par. Their Quality procedures are - for the amount of faults and boats affected - non existant.
    Quite frankly I would not accept a new haul as it will have the same isssues. In your case, you guys have the boat for 3 years, mostly out of the water. You are far to kind people.

    This is not uncommon on resin vacuum infused boats. I've been saying for years , since this technique has become common place.
    I am a boutbuider with over 45 years experience. There is no way of knowing whether the resin has travelled through and saturated the underside of a laminate.
    I have worked at factories where they have used this practice.
    I have tried to point out to management the dangers of this method.
    There are literally thousands of boats out on the oceans like this.
    I have built yachts using vacuum bagging but we always wet bagged.
    That is setting the whole process up where you have a team of expert laminator who rapidly wet out all the glass before pulling on the bag.
    Every one of these resin infused vacuum bagged boats is suspect in my opinion.

    • @LoanwordEggcorn
      @LoanwordEggcorn หลายเดือนก่อน

      With vacuum infusion you can see the resin wetting out the fiber under the peel ply or release film layer. Lots of boats are successfully made this way IF DONE PROPERLY.

    • @geppeto791
      @geppeto791 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      If the boat is foam cored you cannot see if the outside skin is fully wet out. I am also a boatbuikder of 45yrs experience and a proponent of resin infusion. Done properly it gives a much better laminate than wet lam. Normally on production boats at least the first few boats are done with clear gel coat to check the laminate is fully infused. Then as long as the same procedure is used with a perfect vacuum there will not be any problems. However you have to be disciplined to make sure you have that vacuum and not say that should be close enough after an hour or 2 of trying to achieve it. Which is what I suspect has happened here.

    • @LoanwordEggcorn
      @LoanwordEggcorn หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @LoanwordEggcorn หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@geppeto791 Another alternative is to paint rather than gelcoat. That would leave the infusion on the mold side (of a foam core) visible. I understand gelcoat is a cheaper process.

      Not just the poor quality but the extreme poor customer service. Years fighting to get a "NEW" yacht seaworthy. Leopard had a good reputation. Had. Their customer service's motto seems to be delay, blame each other, delay, do as little as possible, delay, repeat as necessary until customers give up. I have heard different years given for when the quality went south or when customer service became nonexistant. Maybe Covid, maybe during the boom over the last few years, maybe ... If I were considering a used one, I'd find the best surveyors I could. I wouldn't consider a newer one. All boats have some problems, but, without customer service, one needs deep pockets like plan on spending 50% of value on repairs. Could be more. Or you could get lucky. @@travelsketch Hi guys, not sure what you mean. If a section is dry, especially an outside pocket, doesn't that just mean not enough resin was applied to that area? Or do you mean, based on what MK-cc8ih wrote, that if resin not mixed correctly (eg too much hardener) the resin near the surface starts hardening before resin can penetrate to the lower glass layers? Perhaps that explains the large areas all over the boat suffering dry glass. Sure do appreciate your detailed videos showing issues and repairs, my heart goes out to you guys, hope you can get sailing soon!

It is obvious that no lawyer wrote that as it reads like an unlawful shake-down attempt and will be construed very badly should this go to court - especially your explicit statements about your negative videos continuing unless they agree to make your suggested "settlement" payments - payments that greatly exceed the full purchase price of the boat. Be careful. That is bordering on criminal extortion - you should never have posted that "demand letter" online or sent it to them. In fact, in the US what you are doing may well be construed as a criminal act. Remove that letter immediately from the internet and settle this dispute as I suspect that they are preparing a case against you. That is almost certainly why they haven't responded. It may well have been referred to the police in their country or yours (are you American?) so tread lightly. That letter was way over the line. Yes you are entitled to some financial compensation - no, you are not permitted to tie a veiled threat to continue to post reputation destroying videos to a demand for double or triple payments plus the right to keep the product too. This will end badly. If you get arrested for this you will greatly regret what you are doing.

(I practiced litigation for nearly 20 years). If you want me to send you a proper draft settlement offer then I would be happy to do so. They seem to have offered $250k. Not sure what your purchase price was and what you could sell your Catamaran for, but here is some unsolicited advice. Get them to $350k and accept the money. Then sell your current sailboat if you can get big money for it as it is relatively new and considered a desirable model. There was just a hurricane near you. Buy a damaged unit, like Parlay did, for $200k. Pocket the proceeds from the sale of your boat plus the additional $100k to $150k from the settlement proceeds. Buy a 100 acre homestead in Montana or Iowa for your long term investment (and for cool youtube content as you build out your Homestead) and fix up your newly acquired damaged Catamaran. Sounds like a perfect idea since 1) it gets you out of this, 2) it provides you guys with a solid long term land investment that will most likely appreciate greatly. You will soon be so glad that you got it, and 3) it lets you do a build out on a Catamaran and go sailing (like Parlay did). In fact, team up with them if possible. But get rid of the bad karma with this boat as it is turning you guys into the sort of people you don't want to be. In my opinion, you guys really need to start a new stage in life. Just some food for thought. Remember what Warren Buffet said about investing - it takes just as much time and energy to stay invested in a bad deal as to stay invested in a good deal - so always go with the good deal. The bad deal "fight" is never worth your time. This lesson will serve you well as you guys go through life.

    Hard as it is to say, and harder for you to accept, it seems to me that you can never have full confidence ia any part of this boat, its fittings and design.
    The builder will probably avoid paying legal redress but for you the best you can hope for is an escape from the untrustworthy boat and maybe enough damages to try again. Your work and upgrades are a sunk cost and should not influence your decision making.
    The boat is dangerous and not now, or ever, seaworthy.
    Please do not trust your lives in it.
    Sorry, Sorry

    y'all should have taken R&C's money and run far away. If y'all keep this boat, it's going to cause issues for years, and after this extensive TH-cam documentation, it's not going to be able to sold in the market to anyone in the future.

    Maybe get a bunch of people with picket 🪧 signs to march near the entrance of the next big boat show Leopard is planning to attend and ask local media and catamaran TH-camrs to help warn the public. I would make it my life’s mission to make them just as miserable as they are making you guys. Extremely shameful what the Executives at Leopard doing to you guys.

      Do that at every boat show where Leopard shit-buckets are presented.

      Thank you so much for the support. Feel free to contact them if this cost them a yacht sale because it has made our lives pretty miserable.
