  • Band in a Box is the most iconic backing track software that creates very realistic backing tracks. But there are other less expensive (even free) alternatives that are great tools for composing and practicing. Watch this review and tutorial on ChordPulse, a simple, intuitive, yet powerful software for creating chord progressions.

    With this too "Chord Pulse" I can finish songs many times faster!!!
    I love this great tool because - often ideas come to me so fast and there gone even faster. I stress the importance recording ideas as fast as possible before I can forget them.
    I also use tools for example "Pro tools & Sebelius 6/7" for the finish polished songs - what I have found is complicated tools like these are not ideal for save ideas as fast as possible and I have lost so much work not getting ideas down fast enough to go back the next day and work more extensively on the following day.
    Simple easy to use tools like "Chord Pulse" are a god send for musicians like me.😍 A song I have been working on for moths will now be finished by Monday😜🤪😊😂🤣

    How to you buy the software if you live in the USA?

    • @GuitarBasement
      @GuitarBasement  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a shame, but it seems that for some reason you can't buy it any more in the USA. Because you asked, I just emailed Laszlo, the creator of ChordPulse to ask what we should expect. If I get a response I'll answer your message again with whatever info I get.

    • @GuitarBasement

      Well Pierre, it seems that this is a limitation since there are only predefined grooves to choose from and they are only the more common time signatures.

    Is piano the only instrument available?

    • @GuitarBasement
      @GuitarBasement  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      MIDI output has separate tracks for guitars, keyboard, bass and drums so you could usu those however you wish in another program. If you are referring to the piano keyboard for inversions, that's really there to represent things graphically. There is no guitar keyboard display if that was your question. Sorry - a bit late replying.

    Hi GuitarBasement and thanks for the video. very useful indeed. Can you download your Midi file after you have created it and use it in other music software for example in my case Garage Band?

    • @GuitarBasement
      @GuitarBasement  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely, that was my original intention when I started looking into these programs. You reminded me though - I was going to make a video about that (if I didn't already??..jeez..I'm getting old!). I tried this out just now and dropped a midi file from Chordpulse into Mixcraft. It puts guitar, bass, drums, piano and pad on separate tracks. You can also drop the MIDI file into notation software to create a music score that you can edit.

    In what format does this save? WAV, mp3? Is this a Standalone application, or DAW Plugin?

    • @GuitarBasement
      @GuitarBasement  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's a standalone program. You can export midi (.mid) files. Those can be be imported to any DAW or music notation program. ChordPulse has no capability to output wav or mp3.

    Chordpulse is what I personally use and I like it because it sounds like older
    versions of Band in a box from the 90s and early 2000s as Band in a box
    originally started out as midi. I think this is better than band in a box
    especially if you want that low budget general midi sound.

    $29.95 for a bunch of cheesy MIDI riffs with no control over drums/bass/guitar/anything ??? It's better to spend $49.95 on something like Magix Music Maker and get proper high quality loops that are totally configurable.

    • @GuitarBasement
      @GuitarBasement  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Perhaps you're missing what Chordpulse is all about. I find it really fast to make a backing track in minutes that you can play along with. I checked out Magix and it doesn't seem like that's the case. It may work for you but for me I like to keep things simple. If I want to do multi tracking I'd rather do all the parts myself. Chordpulse can help to get that process started.

      As a standalone it is what it is, and useful for creating backing tracks fast. You could always take the MIDI into other software and do whatever you like with it. I think it's great and don't know anything that you can make tracks any quicker than this.

    One question. How can I program ChordPulse scripts to play guitar strumming only?

    • @GuitarBasement
      @GuitarBasement  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      ChordPulse creates one type of arrangement for each Style. If you click on Play then Mixer, or simply hit the M key, it will give you a mixer where you have more mixing options. Another way is to output a MIDI file and drop it into your DAW program. It separates the instrument into separate tracks so that you could edit or remove any tracks that you like.

    Very useful, but is there a way of making 3 chords repeat 5 times, and then change for the chorus?

    • @GuitarBasement
      @GuitarBasement  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure, as long as the three chords are 3 bars long. Just add 5 pages using the same number or letter for the 3-chord progression, then add a new page (with a different number or letter) for the chorus.

    ChordPulse is a fun little chord program i agree with that. However there are some *HUGE* flaws that in my opnion makes it not worth buying anymore.
    1. You can't do "Push" chords (chords that are NOT on the downbeat) ChordPulse will play them depending on the style you choose, but you can set a chord at for instance offbeat of 2.
    2. You can't change time signatures so you can't for instances do a song in 7/8 unless there is a style for that (which there isn't)
    3. You can ONLY choose the chords in the chords list that comes with ChordPulse, so you can't get it to play for instance C7#9b13
    4. The sounds are very standard midi sounds, you can save it as a midi file and then load it into another problem with better sounds, but that's gonna take a long time.
    5. ChordPulse haven't been updated or gotten a new release or any extra featues since 2.5 (which was released in 2017). So it's not worth buying in 2023.

      I hear what you are saying. I communicated with Laszlo the creator of ChordPulse a few times, and earlier this year he had asked me if I had any ideas for improvements, or other software ideas. I just forwarded your message to him. Hopefully he doesn't give up on the project and will add the kind of improvements you suggest to improve the product.

    • @Generalbas1972

      @@GuitarBasement that is awsome. I mean if you could have a combination of ChordPulse and Jjazzlab you would have the ultimate alternative to Band in box. The only thing missing in ChordPulse is that you can put the chords anywhere in the bar and not just on the downbeat, and some better sounds.and the only thing missing in Jjazzlab is that you can do chord inversions and more styles and chords to choose from. So a combination of those two would be the ultimate chord program
