Actually flew a light aircraft out of Earl's Colne , a glider out of Wormingford and another glider out of Ridgewell to explore the Stour Valley and Colne Valley Railway routes. Also visited the Heritage Railway near Sible/Castle Hedingham and drove diesel trains there. Then explored the entire route by car and on foot. Fascinating historic area.
You need to have lived in Haverhill, particularly when the trains were still running, to really appreciate this. Top effort, brought back some very fond memories. Really hope the trains come back.
I took the last train from Sudbury - Cambridge and back and remember how people tried to delay departure at stations on the return. I still have the timetable of the last 6 months. BR were clever in making the times not attractive and the survey they did showed lack of use and so got away with closure. Today we see trains running like set times pass the hour so attracts more people. Such a shame it closed.
Wow....i remember walking around the derelict station buildings here after they closed the line..this was late 1960’s. I can also lay claim to actually jumping off Sturmer Arches one weekend! There used to be a Sea Scout hall nearby and we had a supervised abseiling activity on top of the viaduct. The old track was still in place and we used it to anchor the ropes to. I must have been 12 or 13 at the time...Thanks for sharing this.
The Colne Valley line closed before Dr Beeching in 1961 for passengers. The goods continued until 1965. Haverhill South station was goods only from 1923.
The answer is no, it would cost far to much money to put a railway line from Haverhill to Cambridge. Plans also called for the A1307 to be duel caridged from Haverhill to the A11.

The video is spoilt by unnecessary, intrucive, annoying music.
That's one side of an elephant! In other words, perception. I like it very much. Great work!
Best wishes to the promotion team for the return of rail to Haverhill.
