This commercial has grown on me in the past couple years. It used to make me want to read a book instead, but I realized how obsolete they were and how great Luigi’s Mansion was.

I mean, you say that like it's awful.... But 20 years ago, before you were born, games were $30-40, you got the whole game(not part of it with the rest already made but part of a season pass or dlc), there were no micro transactions, no day one updates that were actually the finished game, and most importantly companies tried to innovate rather than churn out sequencual copies of the same thing 1-5% different, but with a new $70 pricetag, some kind of season pass or premium paid mode and micro transactions wherever they can put them...
See, I think this *is* an effective ad, because the girl is extremely hot and that'll grab most people's attention. The second half shows gameplay footage, sort of. The "You have one night to save Luigi" gives the game a level of suspense, and in the end the girl was the GameCube all along. I don't know about you, but that makes me want one in my house. That makes me want ten of 'em.
It is a bad commercial, not only for being bizarre but because at the end when the ghost girl turns into the console, the player, meaning the consumer is actually moving away from it, he is staring at the product with disgust and he wants to be away from it. That is not exactly a good way to advertise your product at all by alienating customers...
I think it's trying too hard to be "edgy," just like every other American Nintendo commercial that was made during the Gamecube/GBA era. Every single one is so embarrassing.
If that were an ad for an adult game I would almost agree with you, but since it's a kid's game the ad doesn't convey that well at all. If I were a parent and saw this ad, I wouldn't have bought the game for my child. the awful marketing campaign was one of the reasons the console flopped.

Does anyone agree that this is kinda false advertising? Because the commercial explained the plot for the beta version. But the idea of only having 1 night to save Mario was cut from the final game. I feel like It would make more sense if they would've waited alittle bit longer so that we didn't have false info on the game.. because of course it went through changes...
The start of a new consol that was awsome. And amazing to me. This little box can play games? But all I know is spent hours on the gamecube and will be know as a great consol.
