    Lesson Description:
    The chords of the melodic minor scale sound a bit weird, and can be hard to get used to and remember, but if we learn them along the 5th string in this one way, it can serve as a way to practice, hear, and remember the melodic minor chords more easily.

    I definitely recommend learning the chords of the melodic minor scale even if you don’t know how or when you’ll use them. Studying the melodic minor chords helps with understanding how chords work from all types of scales, including the ones we use all the time.
    I hope you enjoyed this lesson and found it beneficial. Let me know what you thought. Thanks! :)

    Jared, your teaching style is chill, and easy to follow. You have the ability to make mountains into mole- hills😆
    (Meaning, you take heavy-weight music theory and make it easy to understand for players like me.)

    I've been enjoying playing around with the chords in the Harmonic and Melodic minor scales. Such odd and unique sounds! If you were to write a chord progression or a song using only chords from either of these harmonized scales, what key would it be considered to be in? Is there such a thing as a Harmonic or Melodic minor key? Do you know of any examples of songs that use chords exclusively from either of these scales?

    • @soundguitar
      @soundguitar  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Great question! I don't know of any examples of exclusive use of these scales off the top of my head but I know they exist. Most commonly in western music these scales are used temporarily. It's not official terminology but I would indeed say that a song is in the "key of A harmonic minor" if it was exclusively from that scale, but you could also just say it's in A minor. Much like people often say "this is in D dorian" for something that exclusively exists within that mode, though you could also just say D minor, or "the key of G mixolydian", which you could also just say it's in the key of "G". Hope that helps! Love the questions! :) Glad you've been playing around with the sounds. :)

    Adding 7’s because it’s common chord progressions?
    Or are these the real chords of the scale and not the previous ones ?

    But wait... that's... not melodic minor 🤨
    Melodic is major 6 and 7 on the way up and minor 7 and 6 back down
    Im so confus

    • @soundguitar
      @soundguitar  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's common to use the static version of ascending melodic minor for creating chords and scale modes. It's mostly done in jazz.
