The Swivels, or Lindy Swivels. Coming off of the swing out looks like this. One, two, three and four, five, six, seven, and eight. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. One, two, three and four, five, six, seven and eight.
So what we're doing with the Lindy Swivels off of a swing out. We have our rock step, triple step. She goes forward. Walk, walk, does her triple step. She's naturally going to swivel back towards me anyways, but what we're going to do is have the ladies do a little point, ball, change. So she's going to do a point, ball, change as I go walk, walk. Point, ball, change. Point, ball, change.
Now if you'll notice Nicola right there, she points her right foot as her weight is on her left. That's the point. Now she's going to close that foot to the ball and then push off to the next foot. So she swivels, point, ball, change, point, ball, change. Yes? I'm continuing to just walk. Walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, walk, until I'm ready to pick up a rock step and I pull her forward. This is a swivel, swivel. Swivel, swivel, triple step, walk, walk, triple step.
So that looks like - rock step, triple step, walk, walk, triple step, walk, point ball change, point ball change, point ball change, point ball change, swivel, swivel, triple step, walk, walk, triple step. And there's your swivels. We're going to do it to music.
And there you have your swivels.

Nice lessons, but how about some swing music to go with it instead of, well, elevator dreck.

Yeah I found this video super helpful but that music choice was laughable. They weren't even dancing in time to it

Yup, it’s all about the copyright laws. Try and find guitar lessons on led zeppelin. A lot of them have been flagged and muted.

Street swing doesn't look like that. Ballroom swing does.

This is Lindy Hop. Originally done in Ballrooms and dance halls like the Savoy during the late 1920s and 30's. I promise you those fancy Harlem gentlemen were not going to tear up their leather shoes dancing on dirty asphalt and concrete. Please read up on it Dame.

Thanks for sharing, but why are we only listening to the lead give instruction?

Looks fun! I should get my husband to learn it. We already do Salsa, Merengue, Cumbia dancing but this looks fun. Don't they have more upbeat music for swing dancing though? This sounds like something I'd want to sleep to not dance to.

I got confused for a moment because they return from the point ball change into a triple step on beats 1 & 2 around 1:28

Well done, but I find the sub titles make it difficult watching the footwork, saying it, is plenty good enough, for those of us who aren't deaf, and for those who are, reading the subtitles wouldn't be much use anyway, as there is no way you could hear the music, it's pretty hard to sign or subtitle that too.

Yeah, lead those swivels by flailing your hand left and right. Good way to avoid getting another dance.

Grrrrreat easy to follow teaching, form, etc, but the music is really poor.

That said, I've seen your WCS dancing and I really like it. Just learn the Lindy Hop culture before you decide you should teach it.

Those aren't even swivels. And why TF does this follow face away at the end of her "swing out"?

I've never understood why West Coast Swing dancers try to do Lindy Hop videos. Stick to what you know. That "tick-tock" you do is something that marks one as a beginner.

That's not Lindy Hop. No swing music, no Lindy hop style, the leading of the swivels with this hand going left and right is horrible. And those fingers always spread wide ... Please, don't teach things that you don't master ...

With all due respect, this is NOT Lindy. Or perhaps poorly performed Lindy. If you're trying to learn Lindy Hop - and swivels in particular - please do not learn from this video.

Why use this horrible music? This is the Lindy Hop....use swing!!!
